Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
Immortals - Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, John Hurt
J. Edgar - Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts
Jack and Jill - Adam Sandler, Katie Holmes, Al Pacino
Movie of the Week
Immortals
The Stars: Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, John Hurt
The Plot: Theseus is a mortal man chosen by Zeus to lead the fight against the ruthless King Hyperion, who is on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity.
The Buzz: Not too terribly excited about this one, but it does look better than what promises to be Leonardo DiCaprio’s first bad film since The Man in the Iron Mask. How is it that Clint Eastwood can suck so terribly as a director yet he’s continually lavished with praise? It’s Hollywood politics afoot, that’s all. Eastwood is, Imo, the single most overrated director of all time.

....and we all know what that means. Yep, it’s time for BleedFest, the monthly film festival showcasing independent female filmmakers and their work. Established by badass maverick filmmakers Elisabeth and Brenda Fies, BleedFest opened in L.A. July of 2010 and a few months later became a monthly staple on the film festival circuit. According to the festival’s website, “BleedFest fetes the women who love writing, producing, directing, and watching badass genre movies.” Those genres include horror, fantasy, sci-fi, erotica, action, western and exploitation (but Not of women).
The goal of BleedFest is to raise awareness of the talented female genre filmmakers who are being ignored by the Boy’s Club of Hollywood…..and there are many. The award given out at the festival is called the Inanna, named for the ancient Sumerian goddess of love, war, lust and fertility. The Innanna Certificate Award is given...

This is the trailer for Life in a Day, directed by Kevin MacDonald (Touching the Void, The Last King of Scotland) and starring Cindy Baer, Mojca Brecelj, David Jacques, Caryn Waechter, Drake Shannon, Hiroaki Aikawa, Bob Liginski Jr. and Christopher Brian Heerdt. YouTube, Scott Free and Vue Cinemas have joined forces to release Life in a Day from 17 June, the ground-breaking film directed by Academy Award-winning director Kevin Macdonald and executive produced by Ridley Scott (Alien, Bladerunner). Starring: Cindy Baer, Moica, Caryn Waechter, the entire world
Director: Kevin Macdonald
The Scoop: Filmmaker Macdonald ("The Last King of Scotland") had a simple idea for a movie: harnessing the power of social media, he invited everyone in the world to submit videos via YouTube showing what they were doing on the day of July 24, 2010. Then he took the clips and wove them together to create a documentary so that future generations would have a perfect snapshot of life today. This film, which opens exactly one year later, is the result.

Writer/director/actor Dave Reda has made a name for himself over the last few years with his indie genre projects including Bit Parts and his most recent effort, Horror of Our Love (which screened recently as part of the Los Angeles Comedy Festival).
We recently caught up with Reda (of Elfwtin Fillms) to find out what his top five indie genre projects are. Check them out below!
1. Hate* (*A Comedy) (Drew Daywalt and David Schneider)
This is one of my most favorite short films... A deadly vengeful speaking chicken and poison chimichangas?? This one is so well made and a total blast. Drew also is the director of the insane short film Polydeus, which is a crazy film centered around an 80's video game. The make-up on the creature is fantastic, too.
2. Death In Charge (Devi Snively)
This is such a cool short film, very well made, and an unusual Grim Reaper.

The horror “scene” in Massachusetts feels pretty desolate these days, especially in the winter season when the real horror is finding used condoms underneath the piles of black snow. Occasionally we get recognized when Rock & Shock comes to Worcester in the fall, and there are of course the monthly screenings in Somerville thanks to Chris Hallock and Mike Snoonian of All Things Horror. But how can we get Boston more involved with the horror scene? Creator of the Stiletto Film Fest, Megan Sacco (aka Lady Haunter) may have a few answers.
On February 27th the Stiletto Film Fest made its debut in Clinton Massachusetts. A horror film festival that featured short and feature length films done by women—a perfect way to seal the end of Women in Horror Month. Sacco who crossed over to the horror world after being in the Haunt industry for 15 years, decided that Massachusetts needed...
