If you don’t have a strong stomach, then you might want to pass on this short film. If you like the idea of a romantic film that tells the story of a man who takes his skin off for his girlfriend, then this is right up your alley! It’s probably not the best idea for anyone to take his or her skin off, but that's just how the guy in this story rolls. This short is kind of hard to watch because it’s pretty disgusting, but it’s a great and really well-made film. One of the things that makes it stand out is the fact that there were no CGI effects used to make it.
The movie was directed by Ben Aston, and here’s some information that came along with it:
He Took His Skin Off For Me is a practical SFX fairytale. No CGI whatsoever.

Relationships are hard, oftentimes seeming as though no matter what you do it just isn't enough. So goes the basic premise of Ben Aston's fabulous short film He Took His Skin Off For Me, in which a man goes to extreme lengths to satisfy his lover.'He Took His Skin Off For Me' is a practical SFX fairytale. No CGI whatsoever. Based on the short story by Maria Hummer it is my grad film from the London Film School. It took us 2 years, 217 Kickstarter backers and a whole lot of fake blood to pull off. SFX legend Colin Arthur (NeverEnding Story, 2001: A Space Odyssey) helped us achieve the impossible, allowing SFX Supervisor Jen Cardno and her team set a new standard for anatomical...

Ben Aston is a talented filmmaker who has been making short films since 2010. At the recent Edinburgh Film Festival, he was named one of the ‘British Directors of Tomorrow’ for his short Dinner and a Movie. His latest project, entitled He Took His Skin Off For Me, depicts a couple’s relationship after a man decides to take his skin off for his girlfriend, which Aston describes as “a performance driven, character based film with massive special effects.”
The director recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring the project to life, and have since reached their minimal target. However, in order to fully tell this unique story, the team still require more funding for an extra day’s shoot. We recently sat down with the director to talk about why he chose to adapt this short story and his love of practical effects. .

Named one of the 'British Directors of Tomorrow' at the recent Edinburgh Film Festival, talented filmmaker Ben Aston has proven skill in the short film arena with a series of films dating back to 2010. Adapted from a short story by award winning author Maria Hummer, his next project - entitled He Took His Skin Off For Me - depicts a couple's relationship after a man decides to take his skin off for his girlfriend. On the surface, this might sound like a strange premise, but upon closer inspection it becomes clear that the film is aspiring to be far more than a gruesome horror. The director explains: "The power of the allegory is how multifaceted it is. It's a cautionary tale of someone completely changing themselves for another person.
The story urges us to see a poisonous relationship for what it really is - horrifying." The end result will see...

Director Ben Aston is a major proponent of practical SFX over the use of CGI. This is an important thing to note when looking at his upcoming short film adaptation of Maria Hummer's short story He Took His Skin Off For Me and a major reason why he recruited former assistant to Ray Harryhausen, Colin Arthur, to mentor his team. And the results of an SFX test created by the team are quite simply stunning."Is this what you want? he asked, and I said yes, so he took his skin off for me."He hangs the loose skin in the closet and comes downstairs to join his girlfriend at the dinner table. This whole thing seems like a good idea. He's become what she always wanted...
