Droughtlander begins with the airing of the Season 2 finale, “Dragonfly in Amber.” Somehow millions of fans around the world must satisfy their continuing hunger for the Starz adaptation of author Diana Gabaldon’s book series that started with Outlander, first published way back in 1991.
Centering on the love story between 20th century Royal Army nurse Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) and 18th century Scottish Highlander James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser, it encompassed the lead-up and beginning of the 1745 Jacobite Rising which climaxed in the final defeat of the Stewart claim to the British throne at Culloden Moor and the end of the Highland clan culture.
Interjection: Prime Minister David Cameron delayed the premiere of Outlander before the referendum on Scottish independence, so worried was he over its influence.

Chicago – The beauty of ex-Vice President Al Gore is that whenever his name is mentioned we think about his central passion… how Planet Earth is changing due to greenhouse gases and pollution. His groundbreaking “An Inconvenient Truth” documentary is a cultural icon, and now he is back with the aptly titled “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power,” co-directed by Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk.
This is both an update of the first and a cause for optimism. Al Gore has his slideshow – which is being updated almost day-by-day, as depicted in the documentary – and there are ominous and apocalyptic signs still in the picture (Miami is altering its infrastructure because of rising ocean levels), but also there are true success stories as a result of Gore’s crusade. The wind and sun power industries are viable and becoming profitable enough to be adopted, plus the word is out.. in...

The highly-anticipated TV adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" novel series at Starz has added a pair of Scottish-born actors to its cast.
On Wednesday (Sept. 4), the network announced that Graham McTavish ("24," "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey") and Gary Lewis ("Billy Elliot," "Gangs of New York") will take on the roles of Dougal and Colum MacKenzie, respectively.
McTavish and Lewis join fellow Scotsman Sam Heughan, who was recently cast as lead Jamie Fraser. Jamie, whose full name is James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser, is nephew to Dougal and Colum and when the series begins, he's yet to swear allegiance to their clan, causing a heated tension amongst the hot-blooded Scots.
The series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history and adventure to tell the epic story of Claire Randall (who has yet to be cast), a married combat nurse swept from 1945 back in time to 1743, where she's forced to marry Jamie,...

In case you’re out of the loop (and if you’re a fan of the Outlander series, I’m rather certain that you aren’t), Starz is bringing you an Outlander TV series in 2014, and you now have a couple more names to add to your list.
Graham McTavish will be playing Dougal MacKenzie, and Gary Lewis is Colum MacKenzie.
It’s alt-fiction, time travel, bodice-ripping, Scottish warfare… ok, actually, I barely know what it is. But, I know Diana Gabaldon’s series is massively popular, and we have another cable network hoping to spin a series into the next thing everyone has to talk about. The cast seems to be shaping up nicely.

And when I say long awaited, I mean two decades long– which kinda ties in with all the DC Retroactive titles coming out, including our favorite, Green Lantern reuniting the team of ComicMix contributors Dennis O’Neil and Mike Grell.
