Tracking Shot October 2009: The Social Network, The No Game, Cedar Rapids

1 October 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- At the beginning of every month, Ioncinema.com's "Tracking Shot" features a half of a dozen or so projects that are moments away from lensing and that we feel are worth signaling out. This October (2009), we are keeping tabs on.... Arteta's Youth in Revolt got pushed back to 2010, by then he'll be in post-production with Cedar Rapids. Backed by Ad Hominem and Alexander Payne, hot off The Hangover, Ed Helms will play a sad-sack insurance agent who goes to an industry. convention to try to save the jobs of his colleagues. I imagine the comedy will film in a tax incentive friendly city with a convention center for rent. Robert Redford will be directing the long gestating Lincoln assassination project with Wright Penn in the lead. More murder can be expected in one more Hamlet film - its a contemporary take with Catherine Hardwick re-teaming with Emile Hirsch. Fresh »

It’s flu season. And so they plot their return, this time with all their shots. We humans know the Martians will return and so we prepare for the dusty red devils in their poorly balanced machinations. This time we bring the hardware and the fight is on. Below is the trailer for this excellent looking and very adult animated return to the H.G. Wells story. Within are featured giant mech on Tri-Pod action, along with misty eyed children with really tight closeups. Goliath is written by David Abramowitz of Highlander fame and features the voice talents of Adrian Paul, Peter Wingfield, Adam Baldwin, Elizabeth Gracen, Jim Byrnes and many others. The official »

19 August 2009 1:09 PM, PDT | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

Looking.. mighty.. fine! We first reported on this project back in June, but now that the first mech-tastic trailer just dropped today we're even more excited to check out Joe Pearson's War of the Worlds: Goliath. I mean, it's steampunk, it's got an interesting throwback animation style and more massive rampaging robot war machines then you can possibly imagine.

Synopsis:

In 1900, the Earth was attacked by ruthless invaders from the planet Mars. The Martian's 80 ft tall, heat-ray spewing, Tripod battle machines laid waste to the planet, but the invaders ultimately fell prey to Earth’s tiny bacteria.

Fourteen years later, Man has rebuilt his shattered world, in large part by utilizing captured Martian technology. Equipped with giant, steam-powered Tripod battle machines, the international rapid reaction force, A.R.E.S., is Mankind’s first line of defense against the return of the rapacious Martian invaders. Based in a massive »
