Exclusive: I sit down for breakfast with Charlie Sheen not exactly knowing what to expect. His bookend episodes of Bookie that reunited him with Two And a Half Men‘s Chuck Lorre remind of what was lost after the actor’s inexplicable, substance-fueled “Tiger Blood” meltdown led to an abrupt parting of the ways and separating him from one of sitcom TV’s highest-ever salaries at a reported $1.8 million an episode. It has been a dozen years since then, and I come in harboring my own feelings. Basically, Two And a Half Men (the Charlie Harper Years) have been my reliable go-to at the end of most long days in the trenches. I can practically recite the dialogue along with Sheen, Jon Cryer, Angus T. Jones, as well as Holland Taylor (their mom), Melanie Lynskey (Charlie’s stalker), Marin Hinkle (Alan Harper’s ex), and the late Conchata Ferrell, who played the housekeeper Berta.

Fans have been waiting 14 years for director Michael Dougherty to get around to making a sequel to his Halloween-themed horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat, but Dougherty has stayed busy as the years have gone by, making the Christmas-themed horror film Krampus, directing Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and contributing to the scripts for X-Men: Apocalypse, Godzilla vs. Kong, and the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Recently, there have been indications that a Trick ‘r Treat 2 might finally be moving forward. Dougherty has even said the screenplay has been written. But while he pushes that sequel toward production, he has revealed to Collider that he has an idea for Krampus 2 as well.
Dougherty told them, “We have an idea for a sequel on that one, too. It doesn’t necessarily center around a family as much as it might be about a group of strangers who are trapped somewhere.

Since its release, "Krampus" has become a Christmas favorite of mine. "Rare Exports" and "A Christmas Horror Story" are often listed among the best adaptations of the Germanic legend, but I believe director Michael Doughtery's 2015 holiday horror flick has done the best job at bringing the titular mischief-maker to the screen. The story about a household being overtaken by Krampus and his adorable holiday minions introduces the centuries-old legend in a concise, hilarious, and thrilling way that only the filmmaker behind the influential "Trick 'r Treat" could have pulled off.
"Krampus" features a pretty spectacular ensemble with Emjay Anthony, Toni Collette, Conchata Ferrell, David Koechner, Adam Scott, Krista Stadler, and Alison Tolman. On top of all of that, the film nestles in quite nicely alongside "Gremlins" as a wonderful piece of holiday gateway horror. That's pretty much what the legend is, anyways.

“Ted Lasso’s” Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple could join an elite club if they both manage to repeat getting nominated for Best Comedy Supporting Actress this year. The Apple TV Plus featured players would become the 13th duo to score multiple Emmy nominations in that category at the same time. Waddingham, the category’s reigning Emmy champ, plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton, while Temple, who earned a bid last year, takes on the role of marketing manager Keeley Jones.

The edgy screenplay for this flashy, rough-edged ‘lovers, drugs & guns’ saga served to jump-start Quentin Tarantino’s movie career; he’s identified it as his most autobiographical work. Tony Scott slicked up the visuals and ironed out the nonlinear narrative but it’s still a Qt epic through and through. And that cast of suspects is phenomenal: Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, Bronson Pinchot, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Rapaport, Saul Rubinek, Conchata Ferrell & James Gandolfini.

Of television housekeepers and nannies, most come in different forms. Sometimes they are incredibly stylish and troublesome like Fran Fine (Fran Drescher) from The Nanny, other times they can’t seem to catch a break as seen on Maid, and last but not least, the nanny/housekeeper may run the household just like Berta ( Conchata Ferrell) from Two and a Half Men. As Charlie’s right-hand woman, Berta came with the sharpest of tongues, and when anyone threw words at her, she had a witty response prepared. Her comebacks were legendary. No one ever saw them coming. Here are her very best

Producers of the 73rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony honored almost all of the expected people who died this past year. Who was not featured during the emotional In Memoriam segment Sunday night on CBS? Prominent performers and character actors such as Frank Bonner, Sean Connery, Michael Constantine, Abby Dalton, James Hampton, Bruce Kirby, Norman Lloyd, Helen Reddy and Jane Withers were not part of the 49 people included.
While over 100 celebrated television people died since last year’s event in mid-September of 2020, the segment generally only makes room for less than 50. Among those featured Sunday night: TV Academy Hall of Fame members actor Ed Asner, production designer Roy Christopher, actress Cloris Leachman, writer/producer William Link and actress Cicely Tyson. Current nominee Michael K. Williams (“Lovecraft Country”) and “Saturday Night Live” veteran Norm Macdonald sadly passed away this month as well.

Even though Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will be shortened to just one pre-taped hour on TNT and TBS, the special In Memoriam segment will still be a highlight. Since the 2020 event aired on January 19, it will be over 14 months until the one on April 4. That means even more actors, actresses and members of SAG/AFTRA will hopefully be honored than the 40 people in the tribute last year.

Looking back over the beloved stars we lost in the past year is always emotional, and this year has been especially devastating, given how many members of the entertainment community died due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The pandemic hit the music community especially hard, but television and film performers, as well as stage actors and below-the-line workers were also affected. Singer-songwriter John Prine, record producer Hal Willner and “Nashville” actor Allen Garfield all died of coronavirus on April 7. Broadway actor Nick Cordero died on July 5 after a four-month battle with the disease.
Adam Schlesinger, a composer and co-founder of Fountains of Wayne, died on April 1 at 52. Charley Pride, remembered as country music’s first Black superstar, died on Dec. 12 of coronavirus complications.

Last Year’s Winner: Thandie Newton, “Westworld”
Still Eligible: No.
Hot Streak: In the last 20 years, there have only been three repeat winners in this category: Anna Gunn for “Breaking Bad” (2013 – 2014), Blythe Danner for “Huff” (2005 – 2006), and Allison Janney for “The West Wing” (2000 – 2001). Nancy Marchand is the only actress to win Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in three consecutive years: between 1980 and 1982 for playing Margaret Pynchon in “Lou Grant.” She also won in 1978 for the same role, which is the most of any actor ever.
Fun Fact: 2018 wasn’t the only year the Emmys nominated seven actresses in the supporting actress category. In 1992, Valerie Mahaffey (“Northern Exposure”), Mary Alice (“I’ll Fly Away”), Barbara Barrie (“Law & Order”), Conchata Ferrell (“L.A. Law”), Cynthia Geary (“Northern Exposure”), Marg Helgenberger (“China Beach”), and Kay Lenz (“Reasonable Doubts”) were all up for the Emmy, and each performer represented a broadcast network. In 2018, none were.

For many people, Conchata Ferrell’s portrayal of Berta on Two and a Half Men was the best part of the show. Without this character providing consistent laughs throughout the 12-year run of the show, it may not have achieved such great success. Ferrell has had a long and distinguished career. However, many fans know her only as Berta the housekeeper. While this is her most notable role, her background and career are highly interesting and deserve just as much attention. To help fans

Another Sunday and another installment of VOD Vault, taking a look at some of this weeks on-demand releases that have hit various VOD platforms here in the UK. This week we have a very seasonal edition, featuring two films that take a horrific look at the holidays…
Krampus
Stars: Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Emjay Anthony, Stefania Lavie Owen, Krista Stadler | Directed by Michael Dougherty
Krampus has seemingly become the de jour villain in the horror genre recently. We’ve already had two movies featuring the evil anti-Santa, Krampus: The Christmas Devil and Krampus: The Reckoning; and now comes a third. Although unlike its seasonal brethren, this Krampus at least made it into cinemas – and so it should have. This is the latest film from director Michael Dougherty, who exploded onto the UK horror scene a few years back when his Halloween anthology Trick ‘r’ Treat was screened at Frightfest.

It’s entirely possible that I am simply too old to enjoy Krampus. The built-in audience for the movie seems to be families with perhaps older kids who still want to see a movie together for the holidays. It’s a safe movie in that way, with broad humor and a more passive approach to scaring people that relies less on jumps and thrills and more on the idea of stuff that happens out of frame. It didn’t work for me at all, it seems like a spectacular waste of a gifted cast to make them do such tired, dreary material. And while I can be a bit wimpy at times during horror movies, I certainly prefer scared to bored.
Krampus has the kind of cast that you would expect to be capable of elevating any material put in front of them. Adam Scott and David Koechner are gifted comic actors but between this,...

Playing in theaters now is Legendary Pictures’ comedy-horror movie, Krampus. From the director of Trick ‘r Treat, Michael Dougherty, this darkly festive tale of a yuletide ghoul, reveals an irreverently twisted side to the holiday.

When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.
All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.

Krampus defied box-office predictions this weekend when it racked up a far better-than-expected $16 million over its opening frame, beating estimates that had it pegged in the low-teen millions (and in some cases even worse). The Nightmare During Christmas: Doughtery’s Cutesy Morality Play on the Christmas Spirit
Exploring the adverse aspects of Christmas, one of the most cherished holidays around the globe, is nothing new in cinema. And there are all those nagging, sordid details about good ole St. Nick’s bad side, conscientiously whittled away throughout centuries of increasingly honed capitalistic tendencies as regards the holiday. Genre director Michael Doughtery makes a memorable entry in this growing subgenre with Krampus, a creative though utterly declawed venture which plays...

Darren Franich from Entertainment Weekly, gave it a pretty good 75 score, saying: "Full credit to director Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat) because this is great-looking movie, filled with freaky creature designs and a just-right mixture of practical effects and CGI." Justin Chang over at Variety, gave it a 60 score, stating: "Krampus isn’t especially scary, but it generates goodwill nonetheless for treating its home-invasion-for-the-holidays setup with an appreciably straight face.

All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own,...
