25 Men Who Might Actually Consider Posing for “Playgirl”!

24 November 2009 10:47 PM, PST | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

You can’t buy the kind of publicity Playgirl magazine has received for getting Levi Johnston to pose naked.

Well, actually, I guess you can. What did the magazine pay the ex-future-second-son-in-law anyway? Given all the ink and pixels that have been spilled over this, it was pretty good deal for Playgirl, especially since the word now is that he didn’t even do the whole lumberjack.

Not surprisingly, the magazine is said to be eagerly looking for other famous folks willing to disrobe.

We have some suggestions.

But let’s face it: Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Evans are never going to pose naked for Playgirl. The same goes for virtually every other person on our annual Hot 100 list. These folks are at the very peak of their careers, and they need neither the money nor the, uh, exposure.

That said, there are plenty of other familiar faces (and bodies »

Uncanny Birthday Suits

Celebrating cinematic folk, born on this day 11/23. Get out your kazoos.

Franco, Maxwell and Harpo. Half of the fun of building these posts

is these completely nonsensical groupings!

1859 Billy the Kid, outlaw. I've always thought it a mystery as to exactly why people routinely idolize characters whom they would never want to meet in real life. Murderers, criminals, thieves, (especially gangsters)... they all get the silver screen pedestal treatment. Billy has been portrayed dozens of times and Val Kilmer, Emilio Estevez, Kris Kristofferson, Buster Crabbe and Paul Newman have all done the job.

1888 Harpo Marx I'm embarrassed to say this but I can never remember which Marx Bros is which. When I watch 30s comedies, I almost always select a screwball romance.

1892 Erté artist over whom wee Nathaniel obsessed, wanting a whole animated movie to spring forth from his theatrical illustrations of ladies in elaborate headdresses and fab gowns.

[TV] Justice League: The Complete Series

6 November 2009 8:30 AM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Before I start gushing about just how great this cartoon and, by connection, this set are, let’s establish two things. First, for every good thing I have to say about the entire set I include a single footnote: this should be available in a Blu-ray release as well, the animation would be sharper and bolder, the audio would be stunning and the entire package would have had that much more relevance considering the current trends of digital media. Second, this is so much more than just a ‘cartoon’. As is said a few times in the extra features of the series, Justice League may be the greatest superhero animated series to have ever existed. So what does that imply about this complete series set? One of the best ever?

Is “In Memorium” a “Paranormal Activity”-Esque Success In Waiting?

23 October 2009 6:50 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Director Amanda Gusack gave us the horror film The Betrayed last year, which starred Melissa George (The Amityville Horror) and Oded Fehr (The Mummy, Resident Evil: Apocalypse) in a tale of psychological deception.

Before that film, though, she made a microbudget film called In Memorium that folks are now likening to Oren Peli’s spontaneous success Paranormal Activity. The film premiered at the Hamptons Film Festival in 2005, but has still not seen a release.

Now, with the success of Paranormal Activity, the film is starting to see the light of day through some clips that display a film very similar to Paranormal Activity’s style. Check them out below, and hopefully we’ll have a review of the film up soon enough, so if you have a craving for more Paranormal Activity-esque scares, you might just have an outlet for them!

Paranormal similarity?

22 October 2009 12:23 PM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

The low-cost spooker Paranormal Activity has proven to be quite a phenomenon. And while I haven't had a chance to see it yet myself, I couldn't help but notice it seems to bear some resemblance to a movie I did see several years ago -- another little household horror indie called In Memorium. Made in 2005 by filmmaker Amanda Gusack (who went on to MGM's recent DVD thriller The Betrayed, starring Melissa George and Oded Fehr), In Memorium also took the Diy approach to the premise of capturing »

The Betrayed (2009)

15 July 2009 11:53 PM, PDT | Pretty/Scary | See recent pretty-scary news »

Directed and Written by Amanda Gusack

Featuring Melissa George, Oded Fehr, Alice Krige, Christian Campbell, Donald Adams, and Scott Heindl

In Memorium, Amanda Gusack’s previous horror film, was a well-shot and amazing venture into psychological horror. Her much bigger budgeted follow up, The Betrayed, is a thriller starring Melissa George which is unfortunately less touching and novel than In Memorium. Starting out with a Saw-like situation in which mom Jamie wakes up after a car accident to find herself locked in a dungeon-y basement room somewhere, Jamie is then forced by her captors to answer a series of questions about her husband to which she doesn’t know the answers, or her and her son Michael will be killed...

[DVD Review] The Betrayed

7 July 2009 10:43 AM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

It’s rare that a film can be considered good when it takes place in basically only one room. This isn’t one of those times…it’s just rare. The Betrayed is a thriller, but it’s terribly hard to be thrilled when you can see every angle of the room at all times. The door that separates our girl from our villains is made of glass, so you can always see someone coming. Of course, because of lighting you see the person’s larger-then-life shadow approaching a few moments ahead. Which can be scary. It wasn’t here, but again…just mentioning.

Some productions have done the one room thing well. 12 Angry Men was a movie that was interesting from beginning to end and it took place in a jury room. A special episode of the big 90s show Homicide: Life on the Street took place entirely in »

Resident Evil 4 Due In 2010

2 July 2009 3:19 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Those of you who sat through Resident Evil: Extinction may remember that the end saw (Spoiler!) a bunch of clones of Milla Jovovich's Alice ready to open whole vats of whoop-ass on Umbrella Corporation headquarters in Tokyo. So it should come as no surprise to learn that a Resident Evil 4 is in development, and due for release on September 17, 2010 according to Shock Till You Drop.Yes, there's more. Most normal franchises, inventing a virus that could dry up lakes, would have had the decency to throw their hands up and retire in embarrassment, but not this one. There's no word yet on whether Milla Jovovich will return, although we'd be amazed if she doesn't (hey! She's stuck with it this far). Paul Ws Anderson talked about writing a fourth instalment last year although it remains to be seen whether he'll direct. But with Oded Fehr's Carlos Olivera killed off last time, »

On DVD June 30 is The Betrayed, a very Lifetime Movie-y horror/thriller starring Melissa George as Jamie Taylor, a young woman who regains consciousness after a bad accident and finds herself held captive. It also stars Oded Fehr (Resident Evil) and Christian Campbell (The Book of Daniel). What happened to Melissa George's career? She went from starring in multi-million dollar horror remakes to doing small DVD movies - just like Brittany Murphy...

'The Rock' Gets Tossed '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea'

4 May 2009 9:03 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Fans of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and haters of Will Smith may have cause to rejoice. Production Weekly is reporting that Johnson will be taking the helm of the Nautilus as Captain Nemo for McG's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea reboot/prequel. As Disney appears to own Johnson's soul, this does have the ring of truth to it, and it's also the proof you need that this will be a shameless popcorn prequel, not a Pirates sort of risk that could launch a guy like Naveen Andrews, Oded Fehr, or Alexander Siddig into becoming a household name. (See, I read the comments!)

However, I do like Johnson and I have shared the dismay of action fans everywhere by his startling addiction to kiddie fare and tutus. It would be nice to see him kick ass again, and he certainly has the charisma and swashbuckle to play the Captain. Complexity probably isn't going to be an issue, »
