Promo & Photos – ABC's "Happy Town"

15 December 2009 4:22 PM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

ABC's new midseason show, Happy Town, is set to premiere in 2010, although I'm not yet sure of the exact date.  However, ABC has released some information for us, including a long promo, a description of the show, and several photos (presumably from the pilot episode).

The show looks a bit like Twin Peeks – a show about a small town with weird characters and even weirder circumstances.

Haplin, Minnesota, "Happy Town," has enjoyed an uneasy peace for five years, but all that is about to change. Still haunted by a number of unsolved kidnappings, the small town now faces a dark new crime that brings all its unresolved fears to the surface. Has the elusive "Magic Man" – who many believe is responsible for the bizarre abductions — returned to claim another victim? As Haplin's mysteries are revealed, many of its prominent citizens' motives come under scrutiny as their own secrets and personalities »

'Happy Town' first look: Preview ABC's midseason mystery

15 December 2009 2:21 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

ABC hasn't put "Happy Town" on its midseason schedule yet, but you can get a taste of the small-town mystery right now.

The show, which comes from the "Life on Mars"/"October Road" brain trust of Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg, tells the story of an outwardly idyllic small town in Minnesota that's rocked by the presumed return of a kidnapper who terrorized the town in the past. A new crime causes a bunch of secrets to bubble to the surface ...

Sound a little familiar? Others have been describing the show as a latter-day "Twin Peaks" for months now, and ABC has jumped on the bandwagon too -- the "Happy Town" trailer mentions David Lynch's 1990 sensation in the first five seconds. So, you know, no pressure there.

That could be both a blessing -- "Twin Peaks" is fondly remembered (and rightfully so) for being a blast of »

Platinum Studios Options 'Indestructible Man' TV Series

21 October 2009 8:03 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

The upcoming Platinum Studios comic book “Indestructible Man” has already been optioned as a potential TV series by Fox21.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series revolves around Nick Rabel, a secret agent who is unable to die, but not impervious to injury.

"[Fox21] really understood this character and the world he inhabits from the very first meeting," explained Platinum Studios chairman Scott Rosenberg. The series will also reportedly mix superpowers with humor.

The deal comes in the midst of an especially busy year for Platinum Studios in Hollywood. The company’s signature book—“Cowboys & Aliens”—has been on the fast track at Dreamworks and Universal with Robert Downey Jr. and director Jon Favreau attached along with “Star Trek” screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

Additionally, the Platinum Studios-produced “Dead of Night” has already begun filming—with Brandon Routh in the lead role of Dylan Dog—and “Atlantis Rising” is expected to go into production soon, »

[TV] Life on Mars: The Complete Series

8 October 2009 4:28 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

This review contains spoilers.

Life On Mars starts out rather promisingly. Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) plays a present-day New York detective whose partner-slash-girlfriend Maya (Lisa Bonet) is abducted from a park one day. In the haze of his grief, he wanders into the road and gets struck by a car. When he wakes up, he finds himself in a version of 1973 where every dude looks like Paul Rudd's character in Anchorman. He is still Sam Tyler, he still lives in New York City, and he's still a police officer, only it's 1973 and everyone he has ever met is either really young or hasn't been born yet.

Naturally, Sam panics, resisting his fate madly for an entire episode, though he does manage to solve a case in the process. After the initial existential hysteria, Sam semi-reluctantly resigns into his new life, partially due to his meeting Annie (Gretchen Mol), a »

Life on Mars: Was There a Mistake in the Last Episode?

9 April 2009 4:05 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Last week, we said goodbye to ABC's Life on Mars after a too-short run of 17 episodes. Love or hate the ending, most people are happy that the show's executive producers -- Josh Appelbaum, Scott Rosenberg, and André Nemec -- had a chance to wrap things up before the TV show ended.

As those who tuned in found out, Sam (Jason O'Mara) was not actually a cop from 2008 as we'd been led to believe. He was actually an astronaut from the year 2035 who had been placed in a state of deep sleep for a long trip to Mars. In his dream state, he was supposed to be living out a fantasy about living as a 2008 detective. His spaceship was hit some turbulence which caused the program to malfunction, sending his fantasy persona back to 1973. Elements of his 2035 life and versions of his fellow space travelers (Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol, Jonathan Murphy, »

Life on Mars: Series Finale Shocker -- A Great Ending or a Terrible Finish?

1 April 2009 10:26 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

ABC's Life on Mars didn't catch on with enough viewers and was unfortunately cancelled after one brief season. Sadly, tonight we had to say goodnight to the outstanding cast of Jason O'Mara, Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol, Harvey Keitel, and Jonathan Murphy.

Thankfully, the show's creators were given enough time to craft a true series finale. Executive producer Scott Rosenberg told Scifiwire, "Basically, this episode was always going to be the season finale, so we just switched things up towards the end. But we always wanted it to culminate with him and his parents... Amongst our favorite things that we did was always with his father and his mother. Every time we went to that well, it really worked for us. You'll realize when you see it Wednesday night at 11:00, you'll see that the whole theme of the entire 17 hours was all leading up to this. It was all about »

31 March 2009 12:43 PM, PDT | TVGuide.com - Features | See recent TVGuide - Features news »

Life on Mars</i>" style="margin:0 5px 5px" />In a rare instance of mutual forethought and cooperation between producers and a network, ABC's Life on Mars will wrap up its abbreviated freshman run this Wednesday at 10 pm/Et with a proper series finale, bringing to a close Detective Sam Tyler's time-tripping odyssey. Here, executive producers Scott Rosenberg and Josh Appelbaum reflect on their Mars journey, reveal the one song that done them wrong, preview the "straight-out scary" follow-up they have planned, and promise closure for fans of their previous project, October Road. TVGuide.com: The episode airing this Wednesday, is it more or less what you had envisioned the series finale as being? Or is it slightly different, if only because you had less time to build up to it?

Josh Appelbaum: We always knew that the season finale was going to be this episode, and we always knew what our series finale would be. »

Life on Mars Gets the Axe

2 March 2009 10:31 PM, PST | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

ABC has announced that the time-traveling detective series Life on Mars will not be receiving a second season. Mars was an American remake of the British series of the same name. Starring Jason O'Mara, Gretchen Mol, Jonathan Murphy, Michael Imperioli and Harvey Keitel, Mars centers on a NYPD detective who, after a car accident, is mysteriously transported back to the 1970s. Originally developed and shot in 2007 under David E. Kelley, the show was redeveloped and reshot after Kelley departed. Under the new showrunners, Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg, just O'Mara was kept from the original cast; it was also retooled to better reflect the U.K. original. The series, from 20th TV and ABC Studios, will complete its 17-episode freshman series order with the season finale written as a series finale that will wrap the loose story ends, explain how Tyler got transported back in time and (maybe »
