Produced by Warren Derosa and Zsofi Kendel, “Desperate Journey” is based on the true story of Freddie Knoller (played by Tønnesen), a young man forced to flee Vienna as Nazi hysteria takes hold. Ian McKellen plays the title role in Hamlet, and his stage performance is going to be beamed to cinemas.
Ian McKellen is no stranger to a Shakespeare soliloquy. Having played in every one of his plays many times over, from the towering titan King Lear to the Scottish Play and Richard III.
Now, he is bringing Hamlet, often cited as one of the all time great parts for an actor, to the big screen for one night only.
The synopsis reads as follows:
A tale of revenge that has stood the test of time, William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy is reimagined for the modern day as a gripping psychological thriller! Transcending the confines of the stage in a uniquely modern spin, the film utilises nearly every room of the Theatre Royal Windsor to transform it into the immortal Elsinore Castle, from basement dungeon to roof-top battlement. Back in the early '90s, Arnold Schwarzenegger was approached to star in a new buddy cop comedy. His previous foray into the genre, "Red Heat," was shot down by critics and left in the dust by his other film that year, "Twins," so perhaps he had a reason for caution. Nevertheless, he read the script before his suspicions were confirmed: It was absolute garbage.
Most actors would have politely turned it down at that point, but Arnie is not most actors. Instead, he used it to have a little fun at the expense of his greatest screen rival, Sylvester Stallone. First, he leaked a rumor to the press that he was really excited about the prospect of starring in the movie, then he asked for a silly amount of money to take the part.

Long before "Beverly Hills Cop" became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time (a record the film held for almost 20 years until "The Matrix Reloaded" claimed the crown), it was a problem project for Paramount. Birthed in 1975 by a young studio exec named Michael Eisner, the film was to be a fish-out-of-water actioner about a streetwise Detroit cop who busts up the ritzy Los Angeles neighborhood while trying to track down the murderer of his best friend. The film went through multiple drafts over many years before Daniel Petrie Jr. basically cracked the story in 1983.
Though the project was at last moving forward, something still wasn't right. Producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, red hot off the success of "Flashdance," were now shepherding the movie, and, despite their high studio profile, couldn't get a firm commitment from a leading man. Initially, they wanted Mickey Rourke for the part of Axel Foley,...

Exclusive: Amazon Prime has quietly picked up domestic rights to UK boxing movie Prizefighter: The Life Of Jem Belcher.
Also kept relatively quiet has been the casting of Oscar winner Russell Crowe in a key supporting role alongside protagonists Matt Hookings, Ray Winstone, Marton Csokas, Jodhi May, Steven Berkoff and Julian Glover.
Set at the turn of the 19th century, the movie charts the story of a gifted young boxer (played by Hookings) who fought his way to becoming champion of England under the watchful eye of trainer and surrogate father Bill Warr (played by Winstone). The feature has been a passion project and labour of love for Hookings.
XYZ struck the multi-million dollar domestic deal a little while ago and is soon taking delivery of a cut of the film for the Cannes market, where sales are due to continue. The Amazon delivery will follow this month. Above and below are first look images.

As Exorcist Vengeance opens a woman lays bleeding in the street as Father Jozsef performs her last rites before barking at the onlookers “Which way did he go?” and chasing down the criminal responsible and shooting him even after he’s on the ground, thereby justifying the “Death Wish meets The Exorcist” line in the film’s press release.
Meanwhile, a wealthy old woman Agnes (Elizabeth McNally) starts talking in the voice of the possessed before slitting her throat with a letter opener, something that looks like smoke passing from her to her servant Magda (Anna Liddell; Deadly Waters) as she dies. And it isn’t long before Magda is talking in the same voice and attacking Edna’s granddaughter Rebecca.

Two middle-aged couples take a profanity-laden daytrip to the city where they met – but who exactly is this film for?
The subject of this four-hander by the seaside is the changing face of Britishness. But Stephen Cookson’s film, adapted from Steven Berkoff’s 1994 play Brighton Beach Scumbags, is marooned in a weird cultural no man’s land. Maybe its four characters – Dinah and Derek, Dave and Doreen, a brace of ageing teddy boy/girl couples on a potty-mouthed nostalgia trip to the town where they met – qualified as bleeding-edge social satire in the 90s. But in an age of inquisitional identity politics, railing against “Pakis” and “poofters”, they stand out as cancellation candidates. Even for 2005, the year to which the film is updated, it seems archaic. It’s an awkward compromise, but setting it in the present day would have meant a heavy rewrite to make these throwbacks the...

"Baby, let's go kill some sinners." Saints & Sinners + Strike Media has released this new official trailer for a gritty British thriller titled Red Rage, formerly known as Red Devil. Despite the title seemingly being a wink to hating Russians ("those red devils!") it's really a reference to the designer drug called "Red Devil", which is ruining the city. A murderous vigilante couple tear through the town, serving vengeance to dealers of the drug. "An intertwining tale of sex, drugs, rock and woe," is how they sell it. Red Rage stars Fernanda Diniz, Jack Turner, Adam Deacon, Steven Berkoff, Ian Reddington, and Vas Blackwood. This looks like it has way more weed in it than any other drug, but I dig the style and the craziness of it. Not that we haven't seen this so many times before; it's almost like Trainspotting crossed with The Boondock Saints. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Savvas D.

There are fine grisly moments and a creepy score, but Berkoff’s lurid performance stymies the horror of Poe’s murder tale
More likely to bore the bejesus out of you than chill the marrow of your bones, here’s a film of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart, a gothic short story in which a grandiose madman confesses to murdering and dismembering an elderly gentleman. Steven Berkoff, who starred in a successful one-man stage version in the 1980s, overdoes it a bit and then some with an unhinged, voracious performance as the killer – not so much chewing the scenery as devouring entire pieces of furniture in single greedy mouthfuls. There’s little curiosity here about the twists and turns of the human psyche.

Ewan McGregor recently received widespread acclaim for his villainous performance as Roman Sionis in the Dceu’s Birds of Prey, which marked the actor’s first foray into the world of comic book movies. However, it turns out that he could have made his debut in the genre over two decades previously in a Marvel adaptation, when Fox were toying with the idea of making a Silver Surfer pic.
Superhero movies weren’t exactly big business in the 1990s, and wouldn’t experience a resurgence in popularity until X-Men and Spider-Man exploded into theaters at the turn of the millennium, but storyboard artist Gabriel Hardman recently revealed that he did some concept work on the proposed Silver Surfer, as well as dropping some details on the cast and crew.

The relationship between Eddie Murphy and Netflix would appear to be paying off. Netflix has come to a one-time license deal with Paramount Pictures which sees the streaming giant produce ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’.
Back at the beginning of October Murphy confirmed that once Coming to America 2 is done and dusted, the new instalment in the Beverly Hills franchise would be his next project before he heads back to stand-up comedy.
“Yeah, that [BHC4] is what we’re doing after ‘Coming to America 2′. We’re doing ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ and then the plan is to get back on stage and do stand-up. That’s what I’ll be doing mostly is stand-up. These movies and ‘Saturday Night Live’ it’s kind of like…I’m looking at it as a bookend. If I decided I wanted to stay on the couch forever, I ended it on a funny note.”

Steven Berkoff is no stranger to the limelight. At 81 the actor, playwright and theatre director shows no sign of slowing down. Currently he is working on a one man, one act play based on the recent #MeToo allegations against disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. But his most recent film, a perilous journey through some of Shakespeare’s most notorious creations, shows that there is much more for the ‘enfant terrible’ still to say.
This confrontational aspect is crucial to the man’s work. Indeed, it has served him well enough to earn him the nick name of one of the ‘bad boys of British theatre’, a moniker which endeared him to Hollywood casting agents in the ’70s and ’80s. On screen he has fought James Bond, John Rambo and Axel Foley, on stage he has brought his brash physicality to many of the great roles, notably his work adapting Shakespeare.

Philipp Humm’s journey to filmmaker is an unusual one. Having been chief executive of Vodafone Europe, T-Mobile USA and in senior roles at other firms, including Amazon, he left the upper echelons of the corporate world for more artistic pursuits and is now making “The Last Faust.”
The first and second parts of Goethe’s “Faust” have never been filmed and are rarely staged, not least because of the 14-hour performance time. But Humm has adapted the German classic, with intertwining stories linking the first two parts, into a 120-minute film set in contemporary times. It centers on the CEO of Silicon Valley firm Winestone Inc., played by Martin Hancock. His character is hellbent on emulating God and creating life, and enters a pact with Mephisto (Glyn Dilley), who comes in the form of a hedge fund trader. Gretchen (Yvi Mai) is a young intern at Winestone’s tech firm.

Stephen Cookson is directing and also adapted the play.
Co-produced by Peter Keegan with Patricia Rybarczyk as Line Producer, Ck will be collaborating with Red Rock, Lipsync Productions and private equity.
The film stars Phil Davis (Vera Drake, Notes On A Scandal) and Larry Lamb (The Hatton Garden Job) as two husbands on a first trip to Brighton with their wives for 30 years, who find it is not the idyll they’d remembered. It explores the difficulties of communication across boundaries of class, gender and sexual orientation.

The time has come for the Academy to finally give the VFX Oscar to “War for the Planet of the Apes.” Twice denied for “Rise” and “Dawn,” Weta Digital’s remarkable work on Caesar (Andy Serkis) culminated with a Shakespearean finale. It’s undeniably the best of the field. And coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the original “Planet of the Apes” would make it even sweeter. The Visual Effects Society obviously got the importance of the work, honoring the entire Caesar trilogy, now we’ll see if the Academy makes amends with “War.”
However, “Apes” has been denied before (with the acting branch, in particular, having a bias against Serkis and performance capture) and there is other noteworthy character animation to choose from, including the stunning CG Rachael from “Blade Runner 2049,” the creepy Snoke (Serkis) from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Ego and the de-aged Kurt Russell from...

For his first time out with the “Star Wars” universe, Rian Johnson populated “The Last Jedi” with a slew of new and old friends and foes, including several creature standouts: the adorable Porgs, the elegant Vulptices, the majestic Falthiers, the sinister Snoke, and the return of Master Yoda.

“To the extent that I deal with visual effects, since I don’t have the technical know how, it’s on the design side,” Johnson said. “And I like simplicity of design. You don’t ever want the audience using unnecessary brain power figuring out what they’re looking at. So many of our conversations about the design stuff weren’t about making it look cool, they’re always going to make it look cool [at Industrial Light & Magic]. It was about knowing what we’re looking at.”

Stanley Kubrick’s contribution to great cinema of the 1970s offers his vision of what an epic should be. Transported by images that recall great paintings of the period, and Kubrick’s new approaches to low-light cinematography, we witness a rogue’s progress through troubled times. And even Ryan O’Neal is good!
