Smallville Season 9: New character updates and spoilers

26 October 2009 5:53 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

There's no announcement yet on a UK transmission date for Season 9 of Smallville, which is already airing in the USA, but there is plenty of information leaking out on some of the new characters and storylines.

These fall into the realm of spoilers, so if you don't want to know anything about Season 9 don't say you haven't been warned and don't click to the next page.

Firstly, Green Arrow's sidekick Speedy will make an appearance in an episode called Crossfire when Oliver Queen (Justin Hartley) takes a young street girl called Mia (Elise Gatien) under his wing. There has been a female Speedy in the comic books, although the first to take that name was a youth called Roy Harper who later became Red Arrow.

Also, an episode called Disciple will feature Steve Bacic as a character called Dark Archer, who is the former mentor/tutor to the Green Arrow. »

Casting Notes: Ryan Reynolds Cross-Dresses, Chris Messina in Shyamalan-penned ‘Devil’

16 October 2009 8:25 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Couple of quick casting notes for you today. First up, Working Title yesterday paid a lot of money for a pitch from Allan Loeb to write an as-yet untitled comedy for Ryan Reynolds. The film is a "dude-in-drag romantic comedy, with Reynolds playing a jilted lover who must disguise himself as a woman and befriend his ex in order to win her back." Had to happen sooner or later, really. All manly actors have to prove their mettle not by blowing away a bunch of other manly actors, but by wearing a dress. But if Wesley Snipes can do it, and Terence Stamp can do it, then why not Ryan Reynolds? Watch this one as a double-feature with Buried to see just how much range Reynolds has got. [Variety] After the break, new casting for Devil, the film M. Night Shyamalan wrote for Quarantine writers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle »

New Smallville Season 9 Clip: ‘Zod’

25 September 2009 3:15 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

General Zod is one of those characters that has an interesting back story in the Superman franchise. The character was originally created in 1961 by Roger Bernstein and George Papp, but didn’t become remotely as popular as when portrayed by Terence Stamp in Superman I & II. Since then, each reincarnation of the character has only been a monument to that role. Until now, that is.

Callum Blue has been added to this season’s cast of Smallville as the general who was sentenced to the Phantom Zone after attempting to rebel against his Kryptonian government. He was released at the end of the last season, and looks to be building his own army already in tonight’s premiere.

Blue comes from the popular Showtime series Dead Like Me, so he’s no stranger to the world of fantasy. The irony of the in-place Smallville cast is that Terence Stamp is »

Sound On Sight Radio #155 - Tiff ‘09 Report: The Informant!

21 September 2009 10:32 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

In our second look at the work of director Steven Soderbergh, Sound on Sight takes on three of the celebrated director's crime-related films - though they're crimes of different stripes. His latest, The Informant!, takes on white-collar crime, and stars Matt Damon as a corporate whistleblower who may not be as innocent as he seems. His caper flick Out of Sight is a tale of robbery gone wrong and right, with a little romance thrown in, and The Limey, starring Terence Stamp, acts as Soderbergh's take on the ever-popular revenge thriller genre. Michael Douglas Talks Wall Street 2

14 September 2009 4:01 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Michael Douglas is starting shooting today on Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps for director Oliver Stone, but we managed to grab a few minutes with him over the weekend and got the lowdown on what Gordon Gekko has been up to in the years between films."It’s 22 years later," Douglas explains. "Gordon has done about eight years in jail and got out in about 2001. The picture predominantly focuses on these last couple of years on Wall Street, which nobody anticipated. We shot the first one in 1986 and it was a wild, wild colourful time. And here we have both a train crash and a larger-than-life period leading up to that train crash. It’s an exciting time to make a picture about Wall Street.""Is this a softer Gekko? Eh, I can’t say that. I think he’s got some amends to make. (Laughs) We’ll see what he’s up to. »

Wanted Director Thinks He Can Bring Back Angelina Jolie for Wanted 2

26 August 2009 9:48 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Russian director Timur Bekmambetov scored a huge hit with the bullet-bending visuals of Wanted, the adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book. With James McAvoy and Terence Stamp returning for the sequel, Bekmambetov would like Angelina Jolie back as well. There's only one small problem — her final scene in Wanted.

"She was kind of ... dead," Bekmambetov told MTV.

Not that death should prohibit a character's return. Not in a comic book movie, anyway. Bekmambetov has a plan for Jolie's return:

If you remember from the first film, we have a recovery room with the baths of wax. We know how to do this, but it's still tough to do, because the bullet is inside her head. But there has to be a reason for her to come back ... and we know the reason. I think we found the reason for her to come back. Bekmambetov believes they will make Wanted 2 "this winter, »

'Smallville' season 9 spoilers: 'It's Clark's darkest hour'

25 July 2009 2:04 PM, PDT | EW - Ausiello Files | See recent EW.com - The Ausiello Files news »

You never know who you're going to randomly bump into here at Comic-Con. Take last night. I'm innocently munching on a spicy tuna roll at Warner Bros' Asian-themed cocktail reception and who should wander over to say hello but Smallville exec producer Brian Peterson. Good times, right? It gets better. The dude, who's in town for the show's historic Con panel on Sunday, talked my ear off about his blockbuster plans for season 9 and beyond. What follows after the jump are some of the highlights… * Season 9's theme is "Clark's darkest hour." * Look for a season-long love triangle with Clark, Lois, and Red-Blue Blur. * Chloe, still grieving over Jimmy's death, will immerse herself in all things Watchtowerish. Peterson also hinted at some tension for Chlark when she realizes she's no longer content just being his sidekick. * We'll find out why Clark isn't flying in a scene with him and »

"Come and Kneel Before Zod!"

22 July 2009 3:53 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Turning 70 is something everyone (who doesn't die first) will do. Hitting your 47th year as a consistently employed screen actor is not something many actors can do. So here's to longevity and to silver fox Terence Stamp on his 70th birthday. Whether you primarily think of him as The Limey, "Bernadette" in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, "General Zod" in Superman II or Billy Budd himself, I hope that you occasionally think of him.

Stamp in 1967

Those eyes!

Few peepers can rival his in the icy blue hypnotic gaze department. Except for maybe Ralph Fiennes' (Paul Newman is in a class of his own since his ice can also emanate real warmth. How is this even possible? A topic for another day)

While we're celebrating Stamp here's the actor talking about beauty in the 60s and the trailer to Billy Budd, the film that made him »

Steven Soderbergh is Interested in a Sequel to The Limey?

12 July 2009 7:53 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

He may no longer be directing Moneyball, so what is Steven Soderbergh considering doing next? I think he's feeling a bit sore at the moment - his last two big projects, Moneyball and that Cleopatra 3D musical - were both shelved. So why not revisit one of his own classics from 1999? Soderbergh's wife, Jules Asner, was the guest on the latest Adam Corolla Podcast (via SlashFilm) and, as expected, eventually talked a bit about her husband and what he's currently up to. "He wants to do a sequel to The Limey, and Terence Stamp wants to do it. Terence and Michael Keaton." Whoa, really?! This is the first time we've ever heard of this. The Limey is one of Soderbergh's greats that he did right before he really broke out with Erin Brockovich, Traffic, and Ocean's Eleven. It's a crime thriller, starring Terence Stamp, about an extremely volatile and dangerous »

Steven Soderbergh and Terence Stamp Looking To Sequelize The Limey

12 July 2009 7:00 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

E! workhorse and acclaimed journalist Jules Asner was the guest on the current episode of the Adam Carolla podcast. Amongst discussion of her work, the mysteries of the modeling industry, the unpleasantness of Brooke Burke and lots of other non-/Film business, conversation does eventually come to Steven Soderbergh, Jules' husband. If you drop in at 19 minutes and 30 seconds or so, you can hear the talk on Soderbergh begin with Carolla's attack on Ocean's 13 and Asner's brief defense. Asner then describes The Informant! as one of her favourite pictures Soderbergh has made alongside Ocean's 11 and 12 and The Limey. After Carolla agrees that The Limey was a corker, conversation turns to the potential sequel. Here's the key quote from Jules Asner herself: He wants to do a sequel to The Limey, and Terence Stamp wants to do it. Terence and Michael Keaton. Yep, Michael Keaton. I think that's new news, »

Alien Nation Revival in the Works

30 June 2009 10:20 PM, PDT | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

The Sci-Fi Channel is in the process of developing a new version of Alien Nation, the 1988 sci-fi film-turned-television series. Veteran television producer and writer Tim Minear, whose credits include Dollhouse, Drive, Angel, Firefly and The X-Files, is writing the screenplay. Alien Nation centers on the partnership between a veteran cop and his alien detective partner, set against the larger tale of alien "newcomers" who move to Earth and attempt to assimilate into society. The film was directed by Graham Baker and starred James Caan, Mandy Patinkin and Terence Stamp. In 1989, 20th Century Fox TV adapted the movie for television, with Eric Pierpoint and Gary Graham in the lead roles. The show lasted just a single season but spawned a series of books. The show was revived in 1994 as a series of TV movies for Fox, starting with Alien Nation: Dark Horizon. Five more were ultimately aired; the last, Alien Nation: The Udara Legacy, »

The Kryptonian villain Zod was actually first introducted in the 1980 film “Superman II”, played by Terence Stamp, though the character was later retconned into the history of the DC comic book character as a ruthless general and enemy of Superman’s family from his home planet, imprisoned and thus spared the destruction of Krypton.
