The Best Thing I’ve Seen All Year: Christopher Walken Flips Off the Law of Physics

31 December 2009 10:50 AM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Did I say of the year, because I meant of the decade.  That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, on December 31st, 2009, at 12:40Pm Central Standard Time, I stumbled upon the best thing I’ve seen since I clicked the TV Power button on at 12:01 Am January 1st, 2000 and realized the world hadn’t ended.

The movie is called McBain.  It is from 1991, and it was a time where Christopher Walken was kind of going through a lull in his career.  Of course, if you know enough about the man, you realize Walken doesn’t go through lulls.  There are just moments where has chosen not to turn the volume up to Kick-ass level.

Nonetheless, whatever you think of his career at this time, when a gun found its way into his hands, the laws of physics ceased to exist.

Just watch the clip, and we’ll talk after:

‘The Bannen Way’ Sneaks Out First 3 Episodes Early

29 December 2009 12:20 PM, PST | Tubefilter.tv | See recent Tubefilter News news »

We had heard rumors that they might do it, including some at the last Tubefilter Meetup, and sure enough they have. Sony has released three episodes of their sexy action romp The Bannen Way today just in time to qualify for this year's Streamy Awards. While the series doesn't officially bow until January 6th, it's a move reminiscent of film studios doing a quiet "awards run" New York and Los Angeles to get it on the books for the year. Clocking in at a brisk 7 minutes each, the first three eps (above and below) introduce us to the nooky drenched life of Neal Bannen (Mark Gantt), a gambling con man with a penchant for letting his love for the ladies spill into his work. We learn that his grandfather Bannen's dated wisdom guides his criminal life through a set of 'rules' that give the show its name, The Bannen Way. »

Making It: Web Series Getting Hollywood Cash, Talent

23 December 2009 7:18 AM, PST | doorQ.com | See recent doorQ.com news »

Great news for Web series producers like me: An Associated Press article in the Washington Post notes that major studios are starting to back more Web productions with talent and cash. The subject of this article, the series The Bannen Way, got $1 million in funding from Sony Pictures through their online network, Crackle.

Here’s an excerpt from the Washington Post article with a link to the full story:

Hollywood adds money, talent to made-for-Web shows

Los Angeles (AP) — Web sites that buy original video clips often pay so little that “The Bannen Way,” a flashy crime thriller debuting online, looked destined to be made poorly if it could be made at all.

Yet budding filmmakers Jesse Warren and Mark Gantt managed to hire 40-odd staff, including a boom operator, camerapeople – yes, more than one – and even production assistants on hand to offer sunscreen and sandwiches. And the production had »

The Bannen Way: Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes with Jesse Warren

12 December 2009 5:29 PM, PST | Tubefilter.tv | See recent Tubefilter News news »

With less than a month until Sony's much-anticipated action romp The Bannen Way premieres on Crackle.com, there are two dates you need to remember here: December 15, 2009 and Jan 6, 2010. The latter is of course the official online premiere, and the former is the first time the web community in La will get to see what all the hype is about as we screen scenes from the series at the Hollywood Web TV Meetup. Today we have an exclusive behind-the-scenes video (above) from Crackle with Bannen director, and co-creator, Jesse Warren. He talks about pulling off his imposing vision of stunts and action sequences and working with stars like Michael Ironside, Robert Forster, Vanessa Marcil, and of course his co-creator Mark Gantt who stars as Neal Bannen. Warren quips that the series is "like a guy's wet dream," full of cars, gambling, girls and assassins (who are also girls). The Bannen Way is a slick, »

Exclusive Level 26 iPhone App Cyber Bridge Premiere

4 December 2009 12:28 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Several weeks ago we told you about the launch of the Level 26 iPhone app and digi-novel, and today we have an exclusive premiere of a "cyber bridge" (basically, a video clip) from the app, which plays out a few of the chapters of the digi-novel. This particular cyber bridge stars genre vet Michael Ironside and 24's Glenn Morshower.

Level 26: Dark Origins (review here) takes full advantage of the revolutionary iPhone and iTunes Extras platforms to create a cinematic experience that flows naturally between chapters. Level 26: Dark Origins, the first-ever digi-novel, is now available from the App Store, iTunes Extras, and in print.

The first in a trilogy, Level 26: Dark Origins, was written by CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker, with Duane Swierczynski, and tells the gripping tale of a forensic proof serial killer so terrifying that his very existence has been concealed from the public. Following every 20 pages of prose, »

Review: 'Terminator Salvation' on Blu-ray

30 November 2009 3:37 PM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

There’s no doubt that when James Cameron made the first Terminator movie in 1984 he figured on telling his story and moving on. Little did he know that 25 years later, it would remain a cultural touchstone spawning sequels, a television series, books, comics, and stuff.

Wisely, Cameron also knew when it was time to move on. Coaxed back for the sequel, he delivered a high-octane action thriller that also pushed the limits of movie technology as we marveled at some of the earliest CGI that had our collective jaws drop.

After the ownership got passed around like a bowl of potato chips, The Halcyon Company now controls the destiny of SkyNet and their progeny. Earlier this year, they offered up Terminator Salvation, moving the story to right after Judgment Day in 2018, but before someone thought to send Kyle Reese back in time. The fourth feature, therefore, is both a sequel »

'Splinter Cell: Conviction' To Feature Co-Op And New Multiplayer Mode

30 November 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Multiplayer | See recent MTV Multiplayer news »

Despite a small delay, "Splinter Cell: Conviction" still appears to be nested for a February 23, 2010, release date, and Ubisoft is now beginning to roll out gameplay details. Though the Tom Clancy series has featured co-op play before, a new report says the returning option will be joined by at least one additional mode of play in Q1.

The next issue of PC Zone magazine will spotlight a "co-op reveal and a brand new mode," according to Cvg. Those modes will presumably include many of the pistol-wielding stances laid out in one of the "Conviction" team's developer diary entries.

Single-player action will follow the series' previously established story, as the developers explained.

"The story for 'Splinter Cell Conviction' takes place shortly after the events of 'Double Agent,'" producer Alexadre Parizeau said. "It opens up with Sam investigating his daughter's death."

Sam Fisher basically goes rogue at this point, parting ways from his superiors. »

[TV] Superman: The Complete Animated Series

30 November 2009 2:00 PM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

When Superman: The Animated Series debuted that bright childhood day, the first thing I remember thinking was “It’s not as cool as Batman.” Dropping the black paper background of Batman: The Animated Series in favor of a brighter and more traditional white, Superman was a cheerier series right from the outset. Whereas Batman only gave passing glances to the dark origin of Bruce Wayne’s caped crusader, Superman’s is embroiled in many of the plots for each episode. When it comes to DC iconography, the difference between the significance of the emblems on each hero’s chest becomes even more apparent in the animated series. Batman’s yellow and black bat logo became an instrument, a tool; Superman’s logo, however, the sign of his lineage, works its way into many of the show’s storylines. Whether it’s a villain looking for the last Kryptonian, a princess »

[TV] Justice League: The Complete Series

6 November 2009 8:30 AM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Before I start gushing about just how great this cartoon and, by connection, this set are, let’s establish two things. First, for every good thing I have to say about the entire set I include a single footnote: this should be available in a Blu-ray release as well, the animation would be sharper and bolder, the audio would be stunning and the entire package would have had that much more relevance considering the current trends of digital media. Second, this is so much more than just a ‘cartoon’. As is said a few times in the extra features of the series, Justice League may be the greatest superhero animated series to have ever existed. So what does that imply about this complete series set? One of the best ever?

‘The Bannen Way’ Set Visit: Ironside, Jaguars and REDs

9 October 2009 11:27 AM, PDT | Tubefilter.tv | See recent Tubefilter News news »

I woke up Sunday morning, slid into my skinny jeans, a low-cut, tight black shirt, and stilettos; and slipped on a pair of shades. There's something about going to visit the set of a series that has been labeled "slick," "sexy," and "dangerous" that just makes a gal want to look good...even at 7:00 a.m. And just why was I dragging myself out of bed at such a god-awful hour on a weekend? To get a first-hand glimpse of the shooting of The Bannen Way, the highly anticipated new web series from Sony Pictures Television set to debut on Crackle.com this January. In case you missed the story: Jesse Warren and Mark Gantt debuted the trailer last August, the cybersphere went wild over the racy action series, Icm signed the duo and then Sony snatched up the project based on the strength of the trailer and the scripts the pair had written. »

‘The Bannen Way’: Cast Announced, Sultry Set Photos

28 September 2009 5:56 PM, PDT | Tubefilter.tv | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Plenty of juicy tidbits released today from Crackle's highly anticipated action thriller web series The Bannen Way. It's no secret we're hot on this one, and for good reason. It's one of the rare few web series that landed a major studio deal on just a trailer. Sure it was a slick and sexy teaser shot on the Red One, but still an indie series from the get-go. Of course now it's a full-on Sony Pictures Television project, and is currently shooting in downtown Los Angeles prepping for its January 2010 release on Crackle.com. Creators Jesse Warren, who directs the series, and Mark Gantt, who plays the titular con man Neal Bannen, have pulled together a cast worth writing about like Michael Ironside as Bannen's police chief father and Robert Forster as his mafia boss uncle. Former General Hospital and Las Vegas star Vanessa Marcil plays Bannen's love interest Madison »

The Beacon Takes Haunting Title

25 September 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

Michael Stokes' film The Beacon , we've been informed, is now taking the moniker Haunting at the Beacon . That's revised sales artwork you see on the right - a contrast to what we had shown you in March . The film played to Paranoia Film Festival audiences around that time and it appears to still be seeking distribution. Teri Polo, David Rees Snell, Michael Urie and Michael Ironside star. You can watch the trailer right here ! An updated synopsis is below. Perhaps it's not Stokes' fault, but it seems that sales rep American World Pictures is trying to cash in on The Haunting in Connecticut 's success by tossing the "haunting" in the title. While trying to get their lives back on track after the disappearance and presumed drowning of their four year old son, »

Hardwired Trailer Will Blow Your Mind. Not Really.

9 September 2009 8:54 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Those with rich, rewarding lives may be unaware of the fact that both Val Kilmer and Cuba Gooding, Jr. have become the undisputed kings of the direct-to-video market, outranking both Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme in terms of overall output. Kilmer’s face can be found on an unusually large number of new titles released over the past six months, with Cuba coming in at a very close second. It’s sad, really, especially considering these guys are capable of so much more. Truthfully, the only thing left for these two fallen stars to do is appear in the same movie together, perhaps a sci-fi yarn about a guy with a strange implant surgically grafted onto his brain. Lance Henriksen and Michael Ironside should definitely co-star. “Hardwired,” directed by “Cube Zero” mastermind Ernie Barbarash, valiantly attempts to harness the Dtv power of Val Kilmer and Cuba Gooding, Jr., though judging from the trailer, »
