Bale Warned Off Stars For American Psycho Role

20 July 2008 4:20 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor Christian Bale warned off stars including Ewan McGregor to ensure he landed the lead role in American Psycho - because he had already beaten Leonardo DiCaprio to be in with a chance of winning the part.

The British actor, who stars as Batman in forthcoming film The Dark Knight, was ecstatic when DiCaprio dropped out of the running for American Psycho - and was determined that no-one else should land the movie role.

He tells British newspaper The People, "I had to make a decision either to accept I wasn't going to get the part because Leo was a much bigger star or do battle.

"I kept saying I was going to play the lead and people wondered if I was losing my mind. It reached the point where the film studio said about me, 'Don't mention his name again.'

"But when Leo dropped out, the film company said, 'Let's call that crazy guy who keeps telling everyone he can play the lead.' I even warned other actors off - including Ewan McGregor. I was not going to be bullied out of the part - I was going to stand up for myself and fight.

Radcliffe: 'New Potter Is Like Trainspotting'

1 July 2008 11:49 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor Daniel Radcliffe has compared the latest Harry Potter installment to cult movie Trainspotting - insisting the new film contains "a fair amount of sexual energy and drug parallels".

Radcliffe recently finished filming the sixth Potter movie - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which is due for release in November.

And the star insists that there are moments in the picture which are very similar to scenes in Ewan McGregor's controversial 1996 film.

He says, "There's a fair amount of sexual energy and drug parallels. We have a couple of Trainspotting moments.

"That's two films I never thought would be mentioned in the same breath."

Josh Holloway vs. Matthew McConaughey

18 June 2008 2:40 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

James McAvoy toppled Ewan McGregor in last week's all-Scottish contest, scoring 132 votes to his rival's 61. The comment of the week came from Robin in Utah, who described James as "geeky, cheeky, smoldering, innocent, naughty, funny, heartbreaking. . . but all the while unquestionably sexy!" That just about sums it up, don't you think? Anyway, if you like your men rugged and outdoorsy, you'll enjoy this week's Face Off, a battle between two toned, tanned hunks who know definitely how to start a campfire.

Christopher Eccleston checks in with ‘Amelia’

12 June 2008 9:52 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

The cast keeps growing for Mira Nair’s upcoming biopic “Amelia,” and the latest to board the project is Christopher Eccleston, according to Variety.

The film takes a closer look at the life and career of Amelia Earhart, who became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic by herself in 1937. Hilary Swank will play the title character, with Eccleston starring as her navigator.

Also on board are Ewan McGregor, Richard Gere and Virginia Madsen. Eccleston is known for his appearances on “Doctor Who” and “Heroes.” He also recently wrapped filming “G.I. Joe,” in which he will play Destro.

I have to admit the cast is pretty impressive, and I’m excited to see how they will handle this truly fascinating true story. Plus, I would like to see Swank deliver a solid performance again. After “The Reaping” and “P.S. I Love You,” it’s about time.

Paul Walker won last week's battle of the Hollywood hunks, scoring 120 votes to Ryan Phillipe's 41. Many of you, it seems, just couldn't resist Paul's "piercing blue eyes" - not to mention that body, of course. Anyway, we're going north of the border for this week's Face Off, a duel between two sexy Scotsmen we'd love to see in (or out) of a kilt. Without further ado, let's get voting!

McGregor rules out 'Trainspotting' sequel

27 May 2008 10:06 PM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

Ewan McGregor has said that he will not appear in a possible sequel to cult hit Trainspotting. The actor played Mark Renton in the 1996 film, based on the bestselling novel by Scottish author Irvine Welsh. However, he said he was not impressed with Welsh's 2002 follow-up Porno, which saw Renton and sidekick Simon "Sick Boy" Williamson attempting to make a career out of adult movies. McGregor: 'I Wouldn't Do Trainspotting Sequel'

27 May 2008 5:15 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor Ewan McGregor has scuppered plans to star in a sequel to cult film Trainspotting - insisting he is not a fan of the book the film would be based upon.

The star was reportedly eager to set work in motion on plans for a follow-up to the 1996 movie, adapted from Scottish author Irvine Welsh's second book, Porno.

But the Star Wars star claims he wouldn't want to appear in the film, because a big screen venture based on the poor follow-up book could potentially ruin the acclaimed first movie's iconic reputation.

He says, "There has always been talk of a sequel (to Trainspotting) but I was disappointed with the book, Porno, that Irvine wrote afterwards - it was like he wrote a sequel to the movie.

"I would hate to damage Trainspotting. It would be awful to damage the reputation of that film."

Celebrity Book Alleges Shocking Star Bedroom Secrets

16 May 2008 10:28 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Candid revelations about the sexual prowess of stars like Sir Mick Jagger, Ewan McGregor, John Malkovich and Daniel Radcliffe will feature in new tell-all Hollywood Babylon: It's Back.

The book, which is slated for release next month, reveals who is rumoured to be Hollywood's most well-endowed leading man and exposes a number of alleged scandals involving the world's most legendary stars.

Authors Danforth Prince and Darwin Porter make outrageous claims in the expose, after tracking down those who came into contact with nude stars for their recollections.

One art student who encountered Sir Sean Connery when he posed for a nude portrait before his acting career took off, tells the authors she was stunned by the size of the star's manhood.

She says, "It was the biggest I've ever seen. It made me drop my charcoal pencil."

In another revelation in the book, the authors claim Marilyn Monroe ended a lesbian romance with actress Joan Crawford because "she had bad breath".

Box Office A Laugh-in

28 April 2008 10:31 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Audiences were apparently in a mood to laugh as three comedies, two of them new, opened with solid results during what is usually a droopy weekend ending the spring season. The Tina Fey-Amy Poehler comedy Baby Mama from Universal topped the box office with an estimated $18.3 million, followed by Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantánamo Bay, which opened at No. 2 with $14.6 million. Last week's top film, Universal's Forgetting Sarah Marshall grossed about $11 million, a touch below The Forbidden Kingdom, which opened with $11.2 million. (Those two films might reverse positions when final results are reported later today.) Another new film, 20th Century Fox's Deception, starring Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams performed even worse than most analysts had expected. It pulled in only $2.2 million, but nevertheless wound up on the top-ten list -- albeit in tenth place. That so many comedies could do so well surprised many analysts. "This pokes a huge hole in that old myth that you can't open two comedies back to back or one comedy against another," Nikki Rocco, the distribution chief for Universal, which had Baby Mama competing against Sarah Marshall, told the Los Angeles Times. "The market did expand," she said, adding separately in an interview with Variety: "We had 40 percent of the market share this weekend, which is nice for any studio." Overall, the box ended on an up note, producing better results than a year earlier for the second week in a row. The top ten films for the weekend, according to studio estimates compiled by Media by Numbers:1. Baby Mama, $18.3 million; 2. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantánamo Bay, $14.6 million; 3. The Forbidden Kingdom, $11.2 million; 4. Forgetting Sarah Marshall, $11 million; 5. Nim's Island, $4.5 million; 6. Prom Night, $4.4 million; 7. 21, $4 million; 8. 88 Minutes, $3.6 million; 9. Horton Hears a Who!, $2.4 million; 10. Deception, $2.2 million.

'Baby Mama' grabs Us box office top spot

28 April 2008 8:05 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

Baby Mama has entered the Us box office chart at number one. The comedy, which stars Saturday Night Live alumni Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, focuses on a businesswoman who hires a working class woman to carry her child.

The Michael McCullers film held off competition from comedy sequel Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay to secure the top spot.

The only other new entry, Deception, a thriller starring Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor, performed disappointingly, debuting in the chart . . .

Movie Reviews: Deception

25 April 2008 10:35 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Deception, starring Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor, Michelle Williams and Charlotte Rampling may be described by its promoters as a sex thriller, but critics are describing it as just the opposite. "Head-shaking banality," Desson Thomson calls it in the Washington Post. "Overwrought and ultimately silly," writes Ruthe Stein in the San Francisco Chronicle. And Stephen Cole in the Toronto Globe and Mail dismisses it as "a lamentably slack and dishonest genre exercise."

Deception

24 April 2008 2:38 PM, PDT | From avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news

There are passion projects, and then there are movies like Deception, which seems conjured up like a paperback in the airport bookstore, existing only as company to the lonely travelers in business class. That's fitting, too, because the film's hero, played by Ewan McGregor, is one of those anonymous seat-fillers, a pasty-faced accountant who drifts from one corporate conference room to another, filing a dreaded audit. A guaranteed pariah simply by virtue of his occupation, he might be an interesting guy to know, but Deception doesn't waste much time with characterization before putting him through the generic thriller paces. In essence, he comes off as slightly more refined (i.e. no pocket protector) than Robert Carradine in Revenge Of The Nerds; he's easy pickings for any slickster willing to give him the time of day. In Deception, Hugh Jackman plays that slickster, a fatuous corporate lawyer who takes a...

McGregor Speaks Out About Cancer Scare

Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor has spoken out for the first time about his battle with skin cancer - insisting he has now been given the all-clear following the shock diagnosis.

The star was diagnosed with the deadly disease following a regular check-up and subsequently underwent surgery to remove a number of malignant moles from his face.

The 37-year-old has not disclosed when he suffered the disease, but internet bloggers claim he had the surgery in February 2007.

But McGregor has now recovered fully from the illness and is convinced it was "not that big of a deal".

He says, "I just went to have them checked, you have to be careful if you're pale skinned and you spend time in the sun, with moles.

"So I went to see a specialist who thought they were better to be removed, and indeed, he was correct."

McGregor Suffers At The Hands Of Country Music Fan

22 April 2008 12:22 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Ewan McGregor was forced to suffer in silence at his hotel in New York, while making new movie Deception, because his neighbour insisted on playing loud, depressing country songs.

The Scottish star eventually had to invest in a pair of earplugs, so he could get a good night's sleep.

He recalls, "I just worked and went home and prepared for the next day. I was very studious.

"But my bedroom was clearly next to this lady's bedroom next door and she liked to play long, slow, slightly melancholy country + western music way into the night.

"I'd be sitting there, going, 'Cheer up, come on!' I was very British about it; I should have gone and knocked on her door and said, 'Darling, I don't know if you know but I can hear your music. Do you mind turning it down?'

"I just put earplugs in and I would kind of suffer in silence."

McGregor Finds Quality Of Life As An Ex-smoker

21 April 2008 6:27 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Movie star Ewan McGregor has a better quality of life now he has quit smoking because he no longer has to hunt for cigarettes, ashtrays and lighters before he can sit and relax.

The Scottish actor quit just over a year ago with the help of hypnotherapy and now he can't believe he had so many problems giving up in the past.

He says, "The idea of life without cigarettes is terrifying but it's so much better... and it's so easy - you just don't smoke.

"I found the most annoying thing about cigarettes - apart from the fact that they give you emphysema and cancer and it makes you stink and not have any money, and you have to stand outside in the snow, and all of those things - is that you couldn't do anything without them.

"I couldn't stand the fact that I couldn't just sit down - I'd have to go and find my cigarettes and, 'Where's my ashtray and my lighter?' I'd always be looking for things... Now I can just sit down."

And McGregor insists that, if he can quit, anyone can: "I did it as a second profession; I used to act and smoke."
