Dizzee Rascal's princely pal

18 hours ago | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Dizzee Rascal identified with Prince Harry. The 'Dance Wiv Me' rapper - who met the British royal backstage at this years O2 Wireless festival in London - said that out of all of the celebrities he'd met, Harry, 25, was the friendliest. When asked who his favourite famous person is, Dizzy replied: "It has to be Prince Harry. Tom Hanks is a real down-to-earth guy and we chatted about Snoop Dogg, because his son is a fan. But Prince Harry - that is proper royalty, man! "We just had a bit of banter and that. It was mad. He was... a bit like me, really." He also admitted the prince had a clumsy "street handshake." »

Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours To Have Over An Hour of No Dialogue

7 November 2009 11:44 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

A couple days ago it was reported that Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later) had found his next film project, 127 Hours, a story of Aron Ralston, the mountain climber who amputated his own arm to free himself after being trapped by a boulder for nearly five days. Indiewire had a chance to talk to the filmmaker at the Bafra Brittania Awards, and Boyle confirmed that Slumdog Millionaire writer Simon Beaufoy has not yet started the screenplay, which will be based on Boyle's treatment. But the big news tidbit to come out of the conversation is how he plans to shoot the film. Boyle intends to film the first hour of the movie with no dialogue. In the true life story, Ralston was completely alone, stuck in the canyon. And Boyle will not be introducing any volleyball tricks a la Tom Hanks in Castaway. The film will have ... »

· Topless Robot reminds us that before Angels & Demons, Saving Private Ryan, and Philadelphia, there was Mazes and Monsters -- a made-for-tv movie starring Tom Hanks as an RPG enthusiast who lurks in alleyways, stabbing stuntmen in really shoddy-looking lizard suits. The climax takes place on the roof of the Wtc, further underscoring the movie's underlying message that virgins cause terrorism. »

'A Christmas Carol' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Before you see a very animated Jim Carrey on the big screen, find out how it all came together.

By Eric Ditzian

Ebenezer Scrooge (voiced by Jim Carrey) in "A Christmas Carol"

Look at ol' Ebenezer Scrooge — now that's a mug not even a mother could love.

Jim Carrey is no doubt a fan, though, because behind all that computer-generated animation is the comedian himself, done up in a performance-capture leotard. An admirer as well, clearly, is Robert Zemeckis, who masterminded the moviemaking magic that not only turned Carrey into Scrooge, but the three ghosts who visit him in this adaptation of Dickens' classic, "A Christmas Carol."

Their 3-D movie arrives just a bit before the Christmas season — on Friday (November 6), before even Thanksgiving — but that's no reason you should feel like it has snuck up on you. The story, about three apparitions who visit penny-pinching Scrooge during »

De Niro to the 7th? (Oscar's Male Hierarchy)

6 November 2009 3:46 AM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Have you been buying the minor huzz (hype+buzz) 'Robert De Niro's 7th Oscar nomination' for the holiday film Everybody's Fine? My friend txt critic saw it last night and sent the following note by phone...

it's, well, fine. most definitely a drama (despite the trailer) and conceptually a cross between About Schmidt and Four Christmases. nice, sweet and somewhat forgettable.

might, Might be a nomination for DeNiro, but i wouldn't bet on it.I dunno. I wasn't betting on it either but Best Actor sure seems vacant this year with only Colin Firth (A Single Man) and George Clooney (Up in the Air) catching any sort of real fire. As I've been saying for months, Fox Searchlight shouldn't have even hesitated to position Crazy Heart for a 2009 release. Jeff Bridges would have a clear shot at the career trophy given the field (if -- and it's always »

Danny Boyle is working once again with Fox Searchlight and he's bringing back his "Slumdog Millionaire" creative team with him.

Their upcoming collaboration is called "127 Hours" about the real-life tale of mountaineer Aron Ralston. You may remember the name, he's the man who nearly died pinned under a boulder during a climb in Utah in May of 2003.

For five days, Ralston's right forearm was under that boulder, so he used a dull knife to amputate himself. Take a look at this video for more of Ralston's story, and then continue reading to find out who's being rumored to play him:

Boyle is set to direct the movie. Production begins early next year for a late 2010 release, just in time for the Oscar season.

The director has written a treatment, and Simon Beaufoy is negotiating to write the script. "127 Hours" will be Boyle's fifth time around with Fox Searchlight. The director »

Robert Zemeckis chats 'A Christmas Carol'

4 November 2009 5:35 AM, PST | Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Performance capture technology is being pioneered by a small group of intrepid directors, including Robert Zemeckis who recently brought us Beowulf (2007) and a digitised Tom Hanks in The Polar Express (2004). He takes the technology another step farther with his 3D version of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. It stars an unrecognisable Jim Carrey as Scrooge (and in many other roles too) along with Colin Firth as his charitable nephew Fred. Zemeckis explains to Digital Spy his modern vision for this ye olde worlde fable and why he'll be going underwater for his next trick... This story has been adapted many times before. Did it need this new approach?

"The idea was to do it as a new approach. I never considered adapting it as a film, but when I realised the potential of the tools we have now in digital cinema, it started (more) »

"The Box"

You could make the argument that if Richard Kelly could only get the whole world to come over to his house and listen to his record collection, he might not feel the need to make films at all. That said, his fall from grace following the flop of "Southland Tales" was so total that he went from the director anointed as the hipster's David Lynch to the arthouse M. Night Shyamalan overnight. With much riding on this comeback, Kelly has turned to Richard Matheson's short story "Button, Button," previously immortalized as an episode of "The Twilight Zone, »

Hugh Jackman Not Hosting the 2010 Oscars

1 November 2009 4:10 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Hugh Jackman has ruled out hosting the Academy Awards this coming March, despite rumors that he may return for another song and dance routine.

Sources for Variety say he’s “quietly” declined the job, while not ruling it out in future years.  He just doesn’t want to be the guy two years in a row.

The Oscar telecast last February with Jackman saw an upswing in the ratings compared to the previous falling years, and started the series of changes the Academy has been making to the traditional awards show.  No longer was a comedian hosting the gig, but an actor and rising member of the Hollywood elite.

This year the “Best Picture” category has been expanded to ten nominees, presumably to include more commercial prospects and bring in viewers hoping to see Pixar’s Up possibly contend for the top prize.  Plus new producers like Adam Shankman could »

Tom Hanks Thinks Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' Is Best Of The Year, No Thanks To Kanye West

30 October 2009 11:30 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Tom Hanks has worn many hats over the course of his long career. Actor, both comic and dramatic. Producer. Writer. Director. He's even belted out a song or two through the years, though he's never made a side-career of it like other actors have (see also: Bruce Willis).

After watching the video below, you might agree that the time has arrived to start a "Tom Hanks Should Release A Pop Album" Internet petition. His performance of Beyonce's Video of the Year-winning "Single Ladies" might not deliver as the best of all time, but it is classic Hanks. Watch, and enjoy.
