Spanish actress Penelope Cruz has a "monster" that ruins her romances.
In a new magazine article, the Vanilla Sky star has hinted that her failed relationships with Matthew McConaughey and Tom Cruise were wrecked by her gloomy alter-ego, which has spoiled magical moments ever since she was a child.
Cruz, who is now dating fellow Spaniard Javier Bardem, tells W magazine she calls her angry inner voice "the monster" and has spent her life trying to control it.
She says, "I'm always finding very tricky and hidden ways to sabotage any beautiful moment. And it's something so internal that I don't think even my friends or family can catch me doing it. But I catch myself doing it.
"I've had that battle since I was a little girl. It's like, `Uh-oh, here it is again, the monster! Go away and leave me alone!'
"With time, you get more at peace with it. I used to get very upset about it, and very angry at myself. But now, when it comes, I just send it away."

The idea of playing a fat, balding movie executive in Ben Stiller's new comedy Tropic Thunder was all Tom Cruise's.
The actor is largely unrecognisable in the new film and Stiller admits he had to do nothing to get the movie icon into a fat suit.
The funnyman explains, "The role was his idea. It wasn't even in the script. I didn't have to persuade him.
"Tom is amazing. We'd be talking about the characters, and in the middle of the conversation he'd say something like, `My character should have these giant hands.'
"I seriously believe the man is a movie savant."

In the mere decade he's been filling movie screens, 30-year-old actor Josh Hartnett has already worked in both mega-budget studio flicks ("Pearl Harbor," "Hollywood Homicide") and with auteurs like Sofia Coppola ("The Virgin Suicides"), Robert Rodriguez ("The Faculty," "Sin City") and Brian De Palma ("The Black Dahlia"). Maintaining his stance with one foot in Hollywood, the other currently leaning more heavily in Indiewood, Hartnett's latest . which he also co-produced . is a time warp back to New York during the summer of 2001. Only marginally a pre-9/11 film, director Austin Chick's "August" is an implosive study in hubris set against the backdrop of the dot-com economic meltdown. Hartnett plays Tom Sterling, a narcissistic millionaire CEO who is far more concerned with his materialistic rock star image than he is for Landshark, the sinking ship of a company that he began with his brother Joshua (Adam Scott). Hartnett chatted with me about the film,

Photo: Warner Home Video I started creating RopeofSilicon.com in 2003, but one year before that a little show called "Fastlane" premiered on Fox, and while it did worm its way into the first four months of 2003 that was where it died. The self-described "adult music video" has the look of C.S.I. Miami in all its warm color blasted neon, a soundtrack reserved for '90s MTV and enough female ass and sexual innuendo to make for a kick ass time. That's right folks, the "complete" series DVD set of "Fastlane" was not sent to me with the hope that I may cover it. Nope, I requested this bad boy as this is one of those guilty pleasures I was always sorry it gotten taken off the air. Tiffani and Peter had a good working relationship...

Will Smith, box-office hero!
Photo: Columbia Pictures As Steve Mason points out in his early Friday box-office estimate article, July 4th falling on a Friday is not the best of news. The chances the same number of people heading out to the theater for a movie on a July 4th Friday aren't the same as say a Wednesday. However, that isn't stopping Will Smith's poorly reviewed Hancock from scoring over $100 million in it's five-day weekend along with scoring the second best July 4th performance just behind Spider-Man 2. Hancock scored $41.3 million in its first two-and-a-half days of release thanks to a limited number of screenings on Tuesday, July 1st. The early estimate for Friday are $18 million, playing July 4th number two to Spider-Man 2, which amassed $21.95 back in 2004. Mason's predictions for the rest of the weekend have Hancock bringing in about $103.23 million for the five-day weekend. This will give Will Smith 12 films reaching $100 million,
