- DirectorPeter SegalStarsLeslie NielsenPriscilla PresleyGeorge KennedyFrank Drebin comes out of retirement to help Police Squad infiltrate a gang of terrorists planning to detonate a bomb at the Academy Awards. What a way to start the year!
- DirectorJacques TatiStarsJacques TatiBarbara DennekRita MaidenMonsieur Hulot curiously wanders around a high-tech Paris, paralleling a trip with a group of American tourists. Meanwhile, a nightclub/restaurant prepares its opening night, but it's still under construction.Good. I advise a 2nd watch right after the first one to get all the little details. Probably the best Tati movie. I'm looking forward to see the 4k restauration
- DirectorClint EastwoodStarsTom HanksAaron EckhartLaura LinneyWhen pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger lands his damaged plane on the Hudson River in order to save the flight's passengers and crew, some consider him a hero while others think he was reckless. For a Clint Eastwood movie it's a little disappointing and the depiction of the NTSB is simply ridiculous. But it's a good movie
- DirectorBen AffleckStarsBen AffleckRebecca HallJon HammA proficient group of thieves rob a bank and hold an assistant manager hostage. Things begin to get complicated when one of the crew members falls in love with her.Affleck's is not incredible as a director, but the movie is entertaining and, overall, is a good experience
- DirectorJacques TatiStarsJacques TatiMarcel FravalHonoré BostelMr. Hulot drives a recreational vehicle from Paris to Amsterdam in his usual comical, disastrous style.Typical Jacques Tati. Great
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsTimothée ChalametRebecca FergusonZendayaA noble family becomes embroiled in a war for control over the galaxy's most valuable asset while its heir becomes troubled by visions of a dark future.Villeneuve understood the assignment
It's the definition of a movie to see in theatres, not in home (unless you have a really big screen, like a projector and an amazing sound system).
Everything is great: direction, music, editing, cinematography, sound, CGI.
Impressive - DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsLeonardo DiCaprioBrad PittMargot RobbieA faded television actor and his stunt double strive to achieve fame and success in the final years of Hollywood's Golden Age in 1969 Los Angeles.Entertaining
- DirectorFritz LangStarsBrigitte HelmAlfred AbelGustav FröhlichIn a futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son of the city's mastermind falls in love with a working-class prophet who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences.A movie ahead of its time (probably). For a movie with almost 100 years it's good and still very watchable!
- DirectorNeill BlomkampStarsMatt DamonJodie FosterSharlto CopleyIn the year 2154, the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth. A man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds. It started well, but it's an average movie, lacking quality action and good story development
- DirectorGuy RitchieStarsHenry CavillArmie HammerAlicia VikanderIn the early 1960s, CIA agent Napoleon Solo and KGB operative Illya Kuryakin participate in a joint mission against a mysterious criminal organization, which is working to proliferate nuclear weapons.Sort of a Matthew Vaughn movie, but not as good...
Poor plot and not as entertaining as I was expecting. - DirectorLynne RamsayStarsJoaquin PhoenixJudith RobertsEkaterina SamsonovA traumatized veteran unafraid of violence tracks down missing girls for a living. When a job spins out of control, Joe's nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what could be his death trip or his awakening.Lake scene
- DirectorFritz LangStarsPeter LorreEllen WidmannInge LandgutWhen the police in a German city are unable to catch a child-murderer, other criminals join in the manhunt.Great thriller. It's another amazing Fritz Lang movie, told in an engaging and powerful way. Made 90 years ago, it feels just as incredible as a modern thriller. Fair to say that, alongside Metropolis, this is an timeless movie. In fact, the first thing that comes to my mind is Prisoners - similar plot, similar "villain";
Even without research, it's safe to say that Fritz Lang shaped the future of cinema - DirectorRuben FleischerStarsTom HollandMark WahlbergAntonio BanderasStreet-smart Nathan Drake is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor "Sully" Sullivan to recover a fortune amassed by Ferdinand Magellan, and lost 500 years ago by the House of Moncada.Simple and average story development with poor fight sequences. Being an action movie made purely for entertainment, it's acceptable that characters don't have much depth, but the Uncharted characters still feel incredibly weak, with disappointing on screen relationships.
There's no Indiana Jones aura in this highly implausible and unconvincing treasure hunt. - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsLaurence OlivierJoan FontaineGeorge SandersA self-conscious woman juggles adjusting to her new role as an aristocrat's wife and avoiding being intimidated by his first wife's spectral presence. An immersive and powerful Hitchcockian movie, in which the legendary director has fun playing with the viewer and its feelings, exploring with some artistry the unsettling mysteriousness of the characters - what better definition of Hitchcock?
It's feels like an old movie, with an excessive (but well fitted) presence of music and a slightly theatrical/exaggerated acting, but the interiors of Manderley, where most of the movie takes place, make up for it. The mise en scène deserves the credit.
It's no Vertigo, but it's a good pick. - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsJames StewartJohn DallFarley GrangerTwo men try to convince themselves they've committed the perfect murder by hosting a dinner party after strangling a former classmate to death.A very organic movie - and that almost defines the movie.
In this "Crime and Punishment" type movie, Hitchcock delivers another incredibly intense and well executed art piece, with perfect acting.
It still finds time to ask a couple of philosophical questions, which gives something else to the movie, just as Dostoevsky does in his novels.
It all comes down to clever storytelling. - DirectorAlejandro G. IñárrituStarsMichael KeatonZach GalifianakisEdward NortonA washed-up superhero actor attempts to revive his fading career by writing, directing, and starring in a Broadway production. It's an incredibly entertaining and enjoyable movie, with a superb performance by Michael Keaton and an amazing supporting role by Edward Norton, which earned both the actors Oscar nominations.
The movie itself didn't allow a perfect one long take as in 1917, but it still felt great. - DirectorNanni MorettiStarsNanni MorettiLaura MoranteJasmine TrincaA psychoanalyst and his family go through profound emotional trauma when their son dies in a scuba-diving accident. There's no skill or attractiveness in Moretti's style, story development is average, there is no climax or fine acting, but it's a solid movie. It has its moments and it's not boring, which is very good.
The word Okay could sum up the movie. - DirectorJohn De BelloStarsDavid MillerGeorge WilsonSharon TaylorA group of scientists band together to save the world from mutated killer tomatoes.I saw this with some friends just for fun and we had fun making fun of this movie (this excess of fun was made on purpose...). Of course it's a trash movie, but it has a few good moments, specially the end.
- DirectorWoody HarrelsonStarsDaniel RadcliffeWoody HarrelsonOwen WilsonWithin the course of one night, Woody Harrelson finds himself in a misadventure in London that winds him up in jail.So many things could go wrong in this live one long take movie, but Woody Harrelson presents us a solid movie, without major flaws.
However, there's no beauty in the way the movie is shot, in fact it's more the opposite.
The movie is defined by a good idea and a decent story development, a mediocre but very acceptable performance of Harrelson and somehow, it's an entertaining movie. - DirectorAleksandr SokurovStarsSergey DreydenMariya KuznetsovaLeonid MozgovoyA 19th century French aristocrat, notorious for his scathing memoirs about life in Russia, travels through the Russian State Hermitage Museum and encounters historical figures from the last 200+ years.Using a real singe long take to break time and space barriers, Sokurov takes us with him in this Hermitage tour, in which specific periods of Russian history are visited.
The result: an aesthetically beautiful film. - DirectorIngmar BergmanStarsBibi AnderssonLiv UllmannMargaretha KrookA nurse is put in charge of a mute actress and finds that their personae are melding together.Bergman at his best.
It's a movie beautifully shot and even if it's enigmatic, it's just beautiful.
You don't necessarily need to understand everything - just appreciate! - DirectorNoah BaumbachStarsAdam DriverScarlett JohanssonJulia GreerNoah Baumbach's incisive and compassionate look at a marriage breaking up and a family staying together.Whether it was intentional or not, there's a felling that the movie lacks a clear focus: it tries to be too many things at the same time, almost resulting in a catastrophe. It has moments of pure beauty and others not so much....
The chemistry on screen is perfect and the movie ends up being okay. - DirectorRichard StanleyStarsNicolas CageJoely RichardsonMadeleine ArthurA secluded farm is struck by a strange meteorite which has apocalyptic consequences for the family living there and possibly the world.Interesting, but not great.
- DirectorPanos CosmatosStarsNicolas CageAndrea RiseboroughLinus RoacheThe enchanted lives of a couple in a secluded forest are brutally shattered by a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen, propelling a man into a spiraling, surreal rampage of vengeance.Impressive visual language, good plot and a weak-mediocre Nicolas Cage performance.
It starts slow and slightly boring, but the second half is something else - DirectorJohn De BelloStarsAnthony StarkeGeorge ClooneyKaren M. WaldronCrazy old Professor Gangreen has developed a way to make tomatoes look human for a second invasion.Another good bad movie
- DirectorMatt ReevesStarsRobert PattinsonZoë KravitzJeffrey WrightWhen a sadistic serial killer begins murdering key political figures in Gotham, The Batman is forced to investigate the city's hidden corruption and question his family's involvement.Refreshing and exciting, packed with some crazy action sequences.
It gets several things right, such as the amazing cast, the Gotham's dark and corrupt world, the villain and, most importantly, the aesthetic side of the movie.
Clearly, Matt Reeves is solely focused on telling a dark and complex story of corruption, slightly approaching the human nature, but isn't there were he fails? Bruce Wayne itself is almost left out and his personality is briefly approached. It seems that the characters only purpose is to serve the story, without having many ramifications. The love story between Batman and Selina luckily escapes ridiculousness and the movie scrapes theatricality, with its long repeated theme song. But is this really a superhero movie, or more sort of a police drama? Doesn't it has less action than the usual?
Even though, it's a good movie that deserves the credit. - DirectorBernardo BertolucciStarsJohn LoneJoan ChenPeter O'TooleBernardo Bertolucci's Oscar-winning dramatisation of the life story of China's last emperor, Pu Yi.The first half of the movie has all the luxury and grandiosity, impressive interiors and a beautiful costume design, combined with vibrant colours. However, it's where the movie is more fragile and disoriented. It's hard to understand where Bertolucci wants to take us and there's a feeling of irrelevance in what is being told.
The second half dives more into the protagonist and its personality and the movie feels faster and less boring. - DirectorBrendan SteereStarsGregory James CohanGeorge SchewnzerJanice YoungAfter losing his parents, a priest travels to China, where he inherits a mysterious ability that allows him to turn into a dinosaur. At first horrified by this new power, a hooker convinces him to use it to fight crime. And ninjas. What a movie.
It's one of the best bad movies I've ever seen with my friends. - DirectorClint EastwoodStarsClint EastwoodMeryl StreepAnnie CorleyPhotographer Robert Kincaid wanders into the life of housewife Francesca Johnson for four days in the 1960s.Clint Eastwood explores the theme of the movie in a clever, meaningful and deep way, giving time and space to the story, keeping the focus since the beginning of the movie. He knows what he wants to tell us and let's us know that.
However, it's easy to criticize the acting and the film's lack of aesthetics. The movie doesn't have a visual aura... but that's the Eastwood style. - DirectorDaniel RagussisStarsDaniel RadcliffeToni ColletteTracy LettsA young FBI agent, eager to prove himself in the field, goes undercover as a white supremacist.Solid performance by Daniel Radcliffe in a movie that easily connects its characters with the audience.
It feels realistic and grounded, but that's what ultimately hurts the movie the most. There's not a great climax and although there are a few moments of pure tension... it's only that. There's not much of plot twist or a complex story development.
It's a really entertaining movie, with rhythm and speed. An easy watch that I thoroughly enjoyed.
In the end, what's most impressive in this movie is Radcliffe's performance. Definitely one of his best post-Potter performance. - DirectorGeorge MillerStarsTom HardyCharlize TheronNicholas HoultIn a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper and a drifter named Max.There are a lot of problems with this movie, whether it is the inconsistent acting, the somehow unpleasantly shot first quarter of the film or some annoying scenes that hit the wrong note.
However, it's a very good action movie, that gets much better after half an hour. It has some beautiful images and impressive action sequences.
It's sort of a Dune movie, but without the genius of Villeneuve, the epic Hans Zimmer soundtrack, Greg Fraser's cinematography and Joe Walker editing. - DirectorIngmar BergmanStarsMax von SydowLiv UllmannGertrud FridhWhile vacationing on a remote German island with his younger pregnant wife, an artist has an emotional breakdown while confronting his repressed desires.Outstanding
- DirectorQuentin DupieuxStarsStephen SpinellaRoxane MesquidaWings HauserA homicidal car tire, discovering it has destructive psionic power, sets its sights on a desert town once a mysterious woman becomes its obsession.A really bad bad movie
- DirectorDaniel EspinosaStarsJared LetoMatt SmithAdria ArjonaBiochemist Michael Morbius tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead.ughhh
- DirectorClint EastwoodStarsKevin CostnerClint EastwoodLaura DernA kidnapped boy strikes up a friendship with his captor, an escaped convict on the run from the law, while the search for him continues.Besides an interesting main character, well played by Kevin Costner, this is just a fun movie to watch. Its ending is disastrous.
- DirectorDavid MichôdStarsTom Glynn-CarneyGábor CzapTom FisherYoung Henry V encounters deceit, war and treachery after becoming King of England in the 15th century, in the aftermath of his brother's death.Visually beautiful
It fails to dive deep into the character's minds, but its a great watch. - DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsJake GyllenhaalMélanie LaurentSarah GadonA man seeks out his exact look-alike after spotting him in a movie.Villeneuve is, as always, great in his most enigmatic work.
- DirectorDamiano D'InnocenzoFabio D'InnocenzoStarsElio GermanoTommaso Di ColaGiulietta RebeggianiA few families living out on a limb in the suburbs of Rome. Tensions here can explode at any time; ultimately it's the children who bring about the collapse.Weird, unfocused and confusing. However, it has its moments.
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsTimothée ChalametRebecca FergusonZendayaA noble family becomes embroiled in a war for control over the galaxy's most valuable asset while its heir becomes troubled by visions of a dark future.3rd time seeing it. It wasn't as good as the 2nd time but it's a great movie.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsIngrid BergmanGregory PeckMichael ChekhovA psychiatrist protects the identity of an amnesia patient accused of murder while attempting to recover his memory. It's possible to call it outdated, as the poor acting and constant joyful music are clearly trademarks of the old times.
However, it's well shot and, similarly to Rebecca, has a strong idea that pushes the movie forward. It manages to be an enjoyable movie - DirectorFelix van GroeningenStarsSteve CarellMaura TierneyJack Dylan GrazerBased on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff, Beautiful Boy chronicles the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years. It's a movie that mostly relies on its good script and plausible but not amazing performances.
- DirectorGreg McLeanStarsDaniel RadcliffeThomas KretschmannAlex RussellA group of friends join a guide for a trek into the Bolivian jungle, searching for an Indian village. The men soon realize that the jungle is a difficult place to be.Taking into account its limited budget, the movie is relatively good with action, tension and entertainment - good for the masses.
It doesn't manage to explore deeper subjects neither stands out as something well shot.
Although it's enjoyable, it can't go further than that - DirectorAntoine FuquaStarsGerard ButlerAaron EckhartMorgan FreemanSecret Service agent Mike Banning finds himself trapped inside the White House in the wake of a terrorist attack and works with national security to rescue the President from his kidnappers.Terrible script, acting and action sequences
- DirectorMatt ReevesStarsAndy SerkisWoody HarrelsonSteve ZahnAfter the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.Everything the last two movies had is lost in this one.
It's silly and the magic is lost. - DirectorBen WheatleyStarsLily JamesArmie HammerKristin Scott ThomasA young newlywed arrives at her husband's imposing family estate on a windswept English coast and finds herself battling the shadow of his first wife, Rebecca, whose legacy lives on in the house long after her death. For a while, the movie sets a very nice tone and it's easy to connect with the characters. As the plot develops, the characters and their relationships became more and more fragmented and shallow.
Lily James' performance falls short.
Ultimately, this is an unnecessary remake - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsFionn WhiteheadBarry KeoghanMark RylanceAllied soldiers from Belgium, the British Commonwealth and Empire, and France are surrounded by the German Army and evacuated during a fierce battle in World War II.
- DirectorDavid F. SandbergStarsAnthony LaPagliaSamara LeeMiranda OttoTwelve years after the tragic death of their little girl, a doll-maker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, where they become the target of the doll-maker's possessed creation, Annabelle. Its clever storytelling allows for moments of pure horror and tension. Surprisingly, the characters are not as silly as usual and the performances are strong.
It's scary, disturbing and intense - everything a horror movie needs. - DirectorJordan PeeleStarsLupita Nyong'oWinston DukeElisabeth MossAdelaide Wilson and her family are attacked by mysterious figures dressed in red. Upon closer inspection, the Wilsons realize that the intruders are exact lookalikes of them. It's more of an allegory than a logical action movie - it's important to note this.
- DirectorGreta GerwigStarsSaoirse RonanEmma WatsonFlorence PughJo March reflects back and forth on her life, telling the beloved story of the March sisters - four young women, each determined to live life on her own terms.Seeing it at home for the 2nd time is not as powerful as in the big screen, but the movie still has an aura and moments of pure cinema - in the most meaningful way possible.
The best way I can come up to describe this movie is "exquisite". - DirectorEdgar WrightStarsAnsel ElgortJon BernthalJon HammAfter being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.
- DirectorRaoul PeckStarsAugust DiehlStefan KonarskeVicky KriepsThe early years of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels and Jenny Marx, between Paris, Brussels and London.
- DirectorJeff FowlerStarsJames MarsdenJim CarreyBen SchwartzWhen the manic Dr. Robotnik returns to Earth with a new ally, Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic and his new friend Tails is all that stands in their way.
- DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsYalitza AparicioMarina de TaviraDiego Cortina AutreyA year in the life of a middle-class family's maid in Mexico City in the early 1970s.The genius of Cuarón
- DirectorAndrey ZvyagintsevStarsVladimir GarinIvan DobronravovKonstantin LavronenkoIn the Russian wilderness, two brothers face a range of new, conflicting emotions when their father - a man they know only through a single photograph - resurfaces. It has a lot of Tarkovsky's style
- DirectorBarry LevinsonStarsDustin HoffmanRobert De NiroAnne HecheShortly before an election, a spin-doctor and a Hollywood producer join efforts to fabricate a war in order to cover up a Presidential sex scandal.
- DirectorTodd PhillipsStarsJoaquin PhoenixRobert De NiroZazie BeetzDuring the 1980s, a failed stand-up comedian is driven insane and turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City while becoming an infamous psychopathic crime figure.
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsHugh JackmanJake GyllenhaalViola DavisWhen Keller Dover's daughter and her friend go missing, he takes matters into his own hands as the police pursue multiple leads and the pressure mounts.
- DirectorJean-Marc ValléeStarsJake GyllenhaalNaomi WattsChris CooperA successful investment banker struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. With the help of a customer service rep and her young son, he starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.Criminally underrated
- DirectorClint EastwoodStarsClint EastwoodPatrick L. ReyesCesar De LeónA ninety-year-old horticulturist and Korean War veteran turns drug mule for a Mexican cartel.so disappointing
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsEmily BluntJosh BrolinBenicio Del ToroAn idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by a government task force to aid in the escalating war against drugs at the border area between the U.S. and Mexico. So unlike Villeneuve style
- DirectorJoseph KosinskiStarsTom CruiseJennifer ConnellyMiles TellerAfter thirty years, Maverick is still pushing the envelope as a top naval aviator, but must confront ghosts of his past when he leads TOP GUN's elite graduates on a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those chosen to fly it.It's overrated, but entertaining. Although the movie is poorly shot, it has its moments
- DirectorTerrence MalickStarsBrad PittSean PennJessica ChastainThe story of a family in Waco, Texas in 1956. The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence and struggles with his parents' conflicting teachings.Just beautiful
- DirectorTerrence MalickStarsBrad PittSean PennJessica ChastainThe story of a family in Waco, Texas in 1956. The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence and struggles with his parents' conflicting teachings. Not a mistake - I saw it two times
- DirectorNanni MorettiStarsNanni MorettiLaura MoranteJasmine TrincaA psychoanalyst and his family go through profound emotional trauma when their son dies in a scuba-diving accident.
- DirectorMichael MannStarsTom CruiseJamie FoxxJada Pinkett SmithA cab driver finds himself the hostage of an engaging contract killer as he makes his rounds from hit to hit during one night in Los Angeles. Not as special as I thought it would be
- DirectorBenny SafdieJosh SafdieStarsAdam SandlerJulia FoxIdina MenzelWith his debts mounting and angry collectors closing in, a fast-talking New York City jeweler risks everything in hope of staying afloat and alive. It's a great work of suspense and it keeps you extremely stressed throughout the entire movie. It's not an enjoyable movie to watch (and this is a great compliment). But it's just that - at a certain point, things get a little too repetitive and the movie can't go further and explore deeper concepts or even get some intimacy with the main character, so that the public understands his inner.
It's a movie that revolves around the same ideas over and over again, just like a spiral, a spiral of human misery and although we need a dose of that, that's not my concept of movies, but that's a whole other story... - DirectorMel GibsonStarsJim CaviezelMonica BellucciMaia MorgensternDepicts the final twelve hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, on the day of his crucifixion in Jerusalem. It's okay
- DirectorJulia HartStarsLily RabeTimothée ChalametLili ReinhartA heart-broken teacher chaperones a group of high schoolers to a state drama competition.Interesting starting points, but very disappointing story development. It's confusing, tries to tackle way to many themes and fails miserably, it's hard to tell where the movie wants to go or even what it wants to say.
The acting (not because of the actors itself but because of the instructions they received) is poor and artificial.
It's a poor work even from the perspective of an aspiring filmmaker - no film should be done this way... - DirectorGary DaubermanStarsVera FarmigaPatrick WilsonMckenna GraceWhile babysitting the daughter of Ed and Lorraine Warren, a teenager and her friend unknowingly awaken an evil spirit trapped in a doll. It's very scary and, similarly to the previous (Annabelle Creation), is incredibly shot with creative camera movements that just help build tension.
The climax was a little disappointing, but other than that the movie is great. - DirectorJacques TatiStarsJacques TatiBarbara DennekRita MaidenMonsieur Hulot curiously wanders around a high-tech Paris, paralleling a trip with a group of American tourists. Meanwhile, a nightclub/restaurant prepares its opening night, but it's still under construction.Tati fails to excite the viewer with his simple style, yet, as one sees the movie again and more carefully, understands the little world Tati created - there's a satisfying continuity in the scenes, as characters that appear in the beginning of a scene are still there at the very ending, even if you didn't notice. It's a very coherent work.
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsMaxim GaudetteSébastien HuberdeauKarine VanasseA dramatization of the 1989 Montréal Massacre, during which several female engineering students were murdered by an unstable misogynist.
- DirectorJoel CoenStarsDenzel WashingtonFrances McDormandAlex HassellA Scottish lord becomes convinced by a trio of witches that he will become the next King of Scotland, and his ambitious wife supports him in his plans of seizing power. What a beautiful movie
- DirectorAri AsterStarsToni ColletteMilly ShapiroGabriel ByrneA grieving family is haunted by tragic and disturbing occurrences. The first half is a slow burning match, but when things get scary, they get creepy
- DirectorTerrence MalickStarsAugust DiehlValerie PachnerMaria SimonThe Austrian Franz Jägerstätter, a conscientious objector, refuses to fight for the Nazis in World War II.Malick's shooting style doesn't work as well as it did in Tree of Life, but it's still a film with some beautiful moments
- DirectorSam MendesStarsTom HanksTyler HoechlinPaul NewmanA mob enforcer's son in 1930s Illinois witnesses a murder, forcing him and his father to take to the road, and his father down a path of redemption and revenge. The movie has some outstanding scenes, but (unfortunately) it's not possible to forget some bad things.
It's a movie of extremes: great things and some very bad things. - DirectorAndrew DominikStarsBrad PittCasey AffleckSam ShepardRobert Ford, who has idolized Jesse James since childhood, tries hard to join the resurgent gang of the Missouri outlaw, but gradually becomes resentful of the bandit leader.Had a great time watching it. Superb acting and direction, although that narrator still divides me.
- DirectorDavid LeitchStarsBrad PittJoey KingAaron Taylor-JohnsonFive assassins aboard a swiftly-moving bullet train find out that their missions have something in common.Didn't find the action and the comedy as good as I was expecting
- DirectorJohn LasseterJoe RanftStarsOwen WilsonBonnie HuntPaul NewmanOn the way to the biggest race of his life, a hotshot rookie race car gets stranded in a rundown town and learns that winning isn't everything in life. That's a movie!
- DirectorMichael BayStarsJake GyllenhaalYahya Abdul-Mateen IIEiza GonzálezTwo robbers steal an ambulance after their heist goes awry.Michael Bay is an absolute twat
- DirectorDavid AyerStarsJake GyllenhaalMichael PeñaAnna KendrickShot documentary-style, this film follows the daily grind of two young police officers in LA who are partners and friends and what happens when they meet criminal forces greater than themselves.Shot to look like a docummentary, the movie efficiently instills drama, tension, connection to the characters and a sense of pure realism that I much appreciate. It's cleverly made
- DirectorJane CampionStarsBenedict CumberbatchKirsten DunstJesse PlemonsCharismatic rancher Phil Burbank inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife and her son, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love.Well shot, but I have serious questions about the performances - did all 4 actors really deserved nominations?! NO! Appreciate the settings and the environment, but just like Call Me By Your Name, it's a story I didn't need.
- DirectorJames GrayStarsBrad PittTommy Lee JonesRuth NeggaAstronaut Roy McBride undertakes a mission across an unforgiving solar system to uncover the truth about his missing father and his doomed expedition that now, 30 years later, threatens the universe. The biggest question here is: what exactly is the movie trying to tell? It has a lot without having a lot (in other words, a variety of things trying to be said, but there's not much depth).
Good cinematography and camera work. Music is adequate. Performances OK. Does not create an emotional connection to the main character, which is worrying. - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsJohn David WashingtonRobert PattinsonElizabeth DebickiArmed with only the word "Tenet," and fighting for the survival of the entire world, CIA operative, The Protagonist, journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a global mission that unfolds beyond real time.Could be hard to follow (I've never pressed the pause button so many times) but once that's solved, the movie becames something.
Very well shot; Nolan creates moments very well
Great performance by the black dude (I forgot his name and I am lazy so STFU - free speech) - DirectorPotsy PonciroliStarsTim Blake NelsonScott HazeGavin LewisA farmer takes in an injured man with a satchel of cash. When a posse comes for the money, he must decide who to trust. Defending a siege, he reveals a gunslinging talent calling his true identity into question.
- DirectorEthan CoenJoel CoenStarsJeff BridgesMatt DamonHailee SteinfeldA stubborn teenager enlists the help of a tough U.S. Marshal to track down her father's murderer. For a Coen movie it's very disappointing.
It's not necessarily a bad movie with bad characters, but there's just nothing that captivates me in here. - DirectorKen LoachStarsDavid BradleyBrian GloverFreddie FletcherA working-class English boy spends his free time caring for and training his pet kestrel.Sometimes it can be quite hard to exit the space and reality of certain movie (those settings, characters, envirionments). But leaving behind Kes and its main character Billy is a sad and a dull job.
Personally, the movie is so delicate and efficient to create a strong connection between me and Billy to the point that it's real. Billy is real and this incredibly shaped world he lives too.
I am not sure that I had ever witnessed something like this in any other movie. It's so gentle and smoothly done that these feelings only emerge at the end when the movie is over, when Billy is gone.
Great performance by Dai Bradley in what I call a masterclass of empathy.
Such images shall be seen many times.

- DirectorTi WestStarsEthan HawkeJohn TravoltaTaissa FarmigaA mysterious stranger and a random act of violence drag a town of misfits and nitwits into the bloody crosshairs of revenge. It's an interesting movie with its own ideas that just lacks better execution. I am not convinced by the acting and some characteristics of the script, but I imagine that a better mind like Tarantino or Eastwood would make this a classic.
It also establishes connections with the classic westerns, but it's clever enough to have its own identity, especially with the music. - DirectorAndrew DominikStarsBrad PittRay LiottaRichard JenkinsJackie Cogan is an enforcer hired to restore order after three dumb guys rob a Mob protected card game, causing the local criminal economy to collapse.Andrew Dominick proving once again why he's levels above the rest of the others

- DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsJim CarreyGary OldmanColin FirthAn animated retelling of Charles Dickens' classic novel about a Victorian-era miser taken on a journey of self-redemption, courtesy of several mysterious Christmas apparitions.I remembered seeing this movie as a kid and being terrified when the ghosts appeared, so I was looking forward to see it again.
There are some great things and others not so good.
I know it's not the best animation, but it's solid and it's such an unimportant element of the movie that everyone criticizing it should stfu. The animation creates the creepy setting and environment the movie needs. Both the beginning of the movie and the 3rd spirit part look great and managed to spook me.
I wish the movie had dived deeper into who Scrooge really is. Not having read the book yet, I don't know how far from it it is or how different it is, but I think Zemeckis did a solid job.
Some things are a little childish, but guess what? It's an animated movie.
With that being said, I wish the movie was more scary and serious, but since it isn't and that was not the purpose of the movie, I say this: good solid movie without major flaws containing some proper cinematic moments - DirectorBradley CooperStarsLady GagaBradley CooperSam ElliottA musician helps a young singer find fame as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral.
