- DirectorMelville ShavelsonStarsCary GrantSophia LorenMartha HyerA widower, his three young children, and an Italian nanny get to know each other better when circumstances have them living together aboard a badly neglected houseboat.Viewed: 11-02-2024
Charming and clever romantic comedy starring Cary Grant as a widower who hasn't spent much time with his children due to work commitments but after their mother dies makes an effort to finally be a father. Sophia Loren is the irresistible woman who comes into their lives when Grant hires her to be a governess. The three actors who play the children are all wonderful in their roles evoking poignancy and have a keen sense of comedic timing. A pleasure to watch.
8/10 - DirectorFielder CookStarsDean MartinStella StevensEli WallachWhen a carefree bachelor tries to get his best friend to drop his mistress and return to his wife, he discovers that he too has romantic problems.Viewed: 11-02-2024
Romantic comedy centered around a series of misunderstandings. It does feel a little outdated as a late-60's film (it feels like an early-60's film), but some very sharp writing and cynically hilarious dialogue make it worth the while. The way the misunderstandings work and intertwine with the different characters lead to a very entertaining, but seemingly forgotten about film.
8/10 - DirectorLaura ChinnStarsNico ParkerLaura LinneyWoody HarrelsonWhile caring for her brother along with her audacious mother, a teenager strikes up a friendship with an eccentric activist who is protesting one of the most landmark medical cases of all time.Enjoyable coming-of-age dramedy, though it can't escape from being very much a by-the-numbers film. Nico Parker is great in the lead role, with wonderful supporting performances by Laura Linney and Woody Harrelson. The script just goes through the paces, but the performances do elevate it above being just average. Certainly, it's well worth a watch, it's a very likable film with many redeeming qualities, but it's not as powerful and emotional as it thinks it is.
7/10 - DirectorGareth EdwardsStarsJohn David WashingtonMadeleine Yuna VoylesGemma ChanAgainst the backdrop of a war between humans and robots with artificial intelligence, a former soldier finds the secret weapon, a robot in the form of a young child.Sc-Fi based around AI machines being integrated into society and then the war between them when something goes wrong. Has some really interesting ideas regarding AI and humans coexisting together and when they turn on each other, but the screenplay barely scratches the surface on the topic and takes the easy way out at every turn. It looks great and the actors do their best, but the film feels flat and doesn't really delve into the ideas that it presents the viewer. As a shallow blockbuster, it's ok entertainment, but it's very disappointing because it seemed to have so much more to offer.
