- DirectorCharles BartonStarsEdith FellowsDorothy Anne SeeseClarence KolbEver since the poor Pepper family - widowed Mrs. Pepper and her five children Polly, Ben, Joey, Davie and Phronsie - warmed the once cold heart of wealthy businessman J.H. King, they have lived with him and his grandson Jasper in his mansion. The close proximity has allowed the seed of unspoken puppy love at least to germinate between Polly and Jasper. J.H. initially befriended the family solely to get the other 50% ownership of a copper mine that belonged to Mr. Pepper but which was deeded to Polly, with no copper ever having been found in it. Now, J.H. and Polly are 50/50 partners in developing the mine which both believe contains copper. However, no copper has yet been found, J.H. has sunk all his money into the venture, and the bank will call in his loan in exactly ninety days. Concurrently, J.H. suffers a stroke, which leaves him unable to handle the day to day business. The only answer seems to sell the mine to their competitor, Thomas Townsend, who has wanted it all along. However, he now refuses to buy as he knows he can pick it up for a fraction of its worth once J.H. goes bankrupt. With the mansion required to pay off his debts, they decide the whole lot of them, including J.H., Jasper and who will soon be their unpaid butler, the sentimental and loyal Martin, will move back into the Pepper's tiny house in Gusky Corners, and Mrs. Pepper will get her old job back at the overall factory. Jasper believes his wealthy Aunt Martha Wilcox, who is estranged from J.H., can help with financing if only J.H. would talk to her about it. As Jasper goes to work on his Aunt Martha, Polly believes she's found someone, somewhat unexpectedly, who may be able to help find some copper in the mine before the ninety days. But he not being an expert may cause some dangerous situations in a place like an underground mine.

Though Steve works hard to excel at the academy, he falls behind in his chemistry exams and is threatened with expulsion. At the same time, Dick, growing increasingly impatient with the strictness of the naval academy, insults a cashier and is sent to the "coventry" for discipline. On visitor's day, the young recruits spend time with their families, except for Tommy, who is visited only by Frazier. Tommy eventually realizes that Frazier's real reason for visiting is to investigate the disappearance of one of Tommy's pals, Joey Martin, from Garfield. Soon after Frazier leaves the academy, Joey visits Tommy and tries unsuccessfully to interest him in a money-making scheme. While Tommy secretly meets with Joey, Dick, who gave Steve the answers to an important exam, threatens to expose him unless he gives him money. Desperate to keep the incident quiet, Steve steals money from the cashier's office to pay Dick. Tommy and Joey's rendezvous ends in a fistfight, which results in Tommy being found outside his barracks after hours. Tommy refuses to explain his reasons for leaving the barracks, and is ordered to stand trial for his silence. - DirectorLambert HillyerStarsCharles StarrettTerry WalkerBen TaggartAppointed to examine recruits for Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders, Dr. Steven Monroe arrives by stagecoach to the town of Painted Springs. Painted Springs is being threatened by a war between the local sheep ranchers and cattlemen, and as soon as the coach stops in town, a gunfight between the two factions breaks out. Among the wounded are stagecoach passenger Nancy Richards, the daughter of a cattle rancher, and Ed Gordon, a sheep-man. After tending to Nancy's wound, Steve treats Gordon, even though Nancy's father John tries to stop him. The ranchers are faced with a shortage of cowhands because so many have joined the Rough Riders, and Fred Burns, a cattleman who pretends friendship for Richards and the others, seizes the opportunity to plant outlaws at the Richards' ranch, where he hopes to steal the cattle at roundup time. Burns cunningly plays Gordon against Richards by making it seem as though Gordon is responsible for the subsequent death of Richards' cattle. Burns is aware of the rivalry for Nancy's affections between Steve and Kentucky Lane, the Richards' foreman, and foments bad blood between the two men. A fistfight ensues, and when Steve knocks Lane out and leaves the scene of the fight, Pete, one of Burns's henchmen, shoots the foreman and leaves him for dead. Steve has become suspicious of Burns, and so to eliminate him, Burns has Steve arrested for Lane's attempted murder. Although Lane is near death, Steve revives him long enough to learn that Pete was the man who shot him. With that information, Steve talks Maw Blane, the sheriff's wife, into letting him out of jail and races to the Gordon ranch just in time to prevent a gunfight between the forces of Richards and Gordon. Meanwhile, Nancy has confronted Burns with charges of rustling and murder. In retaliation, Burns takes Nancy prisoner and turns her over to Pete, who rides off with her just as Steve and Richards' men arrive for a showdown with Burns. Galloping after Pete, Steve rescues Nancy and then drags Pete into a creek, nearly drowning him into confessing Burns' nefarious scheme. With peace established between the cattlemen and sheep ranchers, Steve rides off to Sioux Falls to examine more recruits for the Rough Riders.

- DirectorLambert HillyerStarsBill ElliottIris MeredithDub TaylorThe last solo-starring feature film Bill Elliott made for Columbia, as his next eight westerns for Columbia featured Tex Ritter as his co-star. Young Dave Crockett and his sidekick Cannonball find themselves on the trail of water-hole poisoners in the territory known as The Yucca Strip which, through a surveying error, is neither part of the United States nor Indian Territory. King Canfield, self-appointed ruler of the strip, is determined to see that the residents can't vote themselves into the Union through an honest election. Crockett and Cannonball side with the ranchers and townspeople against Canfield and his legion of henchmen to establish the strip as part of Texas.Accuracy footnote: Gail Pictures, Inc. had no connection at all to the production of this film (as shown on site), as Gail Pictures was a TV distributor only. Columbia produced and distributed it to theaters, and Gail had it for television, while Astor pictures had it for re-issue showings after WW II.

- DirectorLambert HillyerStarsCharles StarrettCliff EdwardsEileen O'HearnThis is the second of a three-film series starring Charles Starrett as "The Medico" (based on the Frontier Doctor character, Steven Monroe, created by James L. Rubel in books.) This entry was preceded by "The Medico of Painted Springs" and followed by "Prairie Stranger," before Columbia halted the series, and made the five remaining films of Charles Starrett's 1941-42 production season as straight-action/musical westerns with Starrett playing different characters in each. The Sons of the Pioneers, the musical mainstays in all of Starrett's B-westerns from 1937 through the 1940-41 production seasons, had left Columbia and signed with Republic, so the musical groups in all of the remaining Starrett/Columbia westerns were part of a revolving door that changed with each film. The band in this one was Carl (Cal) Shrum and his Rhythm Rangers, and nobody, including Shrum and his band members, played 'Himself" or 'Themselves" in these fictional films set in a time period before any of these performers were born. This entry has the nomadic, usually-pacifist, non-gun-toting---until really provoked when all else failed (the primary reason the series never caught on and was discontinued)--- Dr. Steven (Steve) Monroe arriving in Rock City to learn that his friend, Roy Mandan, has had his property ruined by dust storms and is forced to work on an irrigation project for crooked construction-engineer Ace Hartley. A heavy rain storm endangers the dam, which has been constructed of inferior materials, and Hartley and his henchmen blow it up and blame Roy. When Roy stands trial, his brother, Clay Mandan, stampedes a herd of wild horses into town and into the courthouse. Roy is shot during the melee and dies in Steve's arms. Monroe then straps on his shooting-irons, from his gunfighter days before becoming a doctor, and sets out to expose Hartley and his gang.
