What did Steve and Joe do after Blue's Clues?
I am not talking about Blue's Clues & You when Steve was a detective and Joe got a job at the present store. I am thinking of what acting roles their actors got after Blue's Clues. Steve Burns and Donovan "Joe" Patton were both new unknown actors at the beginning of their time on Blue's Clues when they were 23, and only had one acting role before it. Steve was Kevin Jefferies in a 1995 Law and Order episode, Cruel and Unusual, and Donovan was a waiter in a cheap 5,000-dollar movie from 1996, Dr. Ice. Along with Aleisha LaNae Allen (the girl who voiced Side Table Drawer), they are some of the few non-celebrity guest actors in Blue's Clues with any agency as an actor outside of the Blue's Clue's series, while a lot of the other mainstays have other jobs in the Blue's Clues series with no other acting roles. Blue is the creator, Mailbox and Mr. Salt are the music composers, and Magenta and Green Puppy a director and a writer, who have one other acting role in Green's Wallykazam.
On January 1, 2001, Steve announced that he would leave Blue's Clues, and Donovan would be the new host because Steve Burns did not want to go bald on a kids' program and Donovan luckily did not have the same early balding problem when he turned 28, so if Steve was in a short film from 2001, it was probably made after Steve left Blue's Clues, even though the three episodes where he introduced Joe aired on April 29, 2002, because it takes months to draw, color and animate the rest of the Blue's Clues world surrounding the two on-camera host actors. The 100th episode where Steve reunited with Joe for the clip show aired on June 10, 2002, before most of the 5th production cycle it was produced after because as a clip show, it only had to film half the normal length of a 24-minute Blue's Clues episode. These days, Steve does a lot of music, and Joe/Donovan has had a steady acting career, including voice acting. While they do not have as many acting credits as celebrity guests like Lisa Kudrow or Henry Winkler, it is still interesting to see what other actors have crossed paths with Steve Burns and Donovan Patton in mainstream media on the occasion when they are a main character in a series or a movie outside of Blue's Clues.
I love that Steve Burns and Joe Burns(?) both got to host Blue's Clues for 5 years of their lives, counting the Blue's Room stuff. It was a cool idea for Blue to have her own magical room where she talks (not as Traci), but I didn't like the execution of it because it was completely detached from the original spirit of Clues, and it made Season 6 episodes shorter when Blue hops in at the last quarter and Joe had a much shorter clues song and good-bye song. Season 6 as it is was much shorter with only 9 episodes before Blue's Room was made its own show. However, I still miss Blue's Room a little bit because on its own it was fun in small doses while it lasted, and I am glad Joe got to join the Blue's Room stuff later on when the Gold Clues episode with Blue's Baby Brother brought both Blue shows together 1 month before the 10th anniversary.
