- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsLiam NeesonRalph FiennesBen KingsleyIn German-occupied Poland during World War II, industrialist Oskar Schindler gradually becomes concerned for his Jewish workforce after witnessing their persecution by the Nazis. One of the greatest films ever made and its acclaim is certainly deserved. Every single person should see this at least once.
10/10 - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice. It remains the greatest superhero movie ever in my mind. Ledger's performance as the Joker is truly one of the best and the greatest villain of the 21st Century. It may not be truly perfect, but it is one of the best films in modern times.
10/10 - DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMartin SheenMarlon BrandoRobert DuvallA U.S. Army officer serving in Vietnam is tasked with assassinating a renegade Special Forces Colonel who sees himself as a god.The greatest war film in my opinion, because the ambition and ideas go beyond most war movies. This was the finale to what I consider the greatest streak for a director ever. Godfather I and II, followed by this in 1979.
10/10 - DirectorDavid FincherStarsMorgan FreemanBrad PittKevin SpaceyTwo detectives, a rookie and a veteran, hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his motives. One of the greatest and grimmest thrillers ever made.
10/10 - DirectorRoman PolanskiStarsAdrien BrodyThomas KretschmannFrank FinlayDuring WWII, acclaimed Polish musician Wladyslaw faces various struggles as he loses contact with his family. As the situation worsens, he hides in the ruins of Warsaw in order to survive.Arguably the second greatest Holocaust tale in film. Harrowing and unforgettable.
9/10 - DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris HemsworthMark RuffaloThe Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe. One of the best superhero films ever made. Immense hype and it lived up to it. Such a massive gathering of talent and ambition, and it hit it out of the park.
9/10 - DirectorLana WachowskiLilly WachowskiStarsKeanu ReevesLaurence FishburneCarrie-Anne MossWhen a beautiful stranger leads computer hacker Neo to a forbidding underworld, he discovers the shocking truth--the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence.A sci-fi masterpiece. It stands alone. No sequels needed.
9/10 - DirectorDavid FincherStarsJake GyllenhaalRobert Downey Jr.Mark RuffaloBetween 1968 and 1983, a San Francisco cartoonist becomes an amateur detective obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac Killer, an unidentified individual who terrorizes Northern California with a killing spree. One of the best films of 2007. It has gained fans in the past ten years, but still feels a bit underrated for how impressive of a dark thriller it is.
9/10 - DirectorTom HooperStarsColin FirthGeoffrey RushHelena Bonham CarterThe story of King George VI, his unexpected ascension to the throne of the British Empire in 1936, and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch overcome his stammer.Just had the pleasure to recently watch this. It truly deserves the praise for Rush and Firth alone. The acting on display here is among the best.
9/10 - DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsAl PacinoMichelle PfeifferSteven BauerIn 1980 Miami, a determined Cuban immigrant takes over a drug cartel and succumbs to greed. One of Pacino's best and also one of the best mafia movies ever made. With themes revolving around excess everything, the film is over the top in a great way.
9/10 - DirectorEdward ZwickStarsLeonardo DiCaprioDjimon HounsouJennifer ConnellyA fisherman, a smuggler, and a syndicate of businessmen match wits over the possession of a priceless diamond.Definitely one of the better films on Netflix and was underrated by critics.
9/10 - DirectorLee UnkrichAdrian MolinaStarsAnthony GonzalezGael García BernalBenjamin BrattAspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer.Arguably Pixar's finest outing since Toy Story 3. Touching, funny, and with a good story to bring it all home. It was my personal favorite film of 2017.
9/10 - DirectorTroy DuffyStarsWillem DafoeSean Patrick FlaneryNorman ReedusTwo Irish Catholic brothers become vigilantes and wipe out Boston's criminal underworld in the name of God.I fall in the camp of people who really enjoy this movie. It is a love or hate it kind of thing, but many have come to adore it for what it is.
9/10 - DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsJohn TravoltaUma ThurmanSamuel L. JacksonThe lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster and his wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption.Well loved for a reason. I feel I'd have to watch it again and I'll probably like it more this time.
8/10 - DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsBruce WillisHaley Joel OsmentToni ColletteMalcolm Crowe, a child psychologist, starts treating a young boy, Cole, who encounters dead people and convinces him to help them. In turn, Cole helps Malcolm reconcile with his estranged wife.A great thriller with horror elements. Unless you are a younger viewer, then you have probably seen this by now.
8/10 - DirectorJames McTeigueStarsHugo WeavingNatalie PortmanRupert GravesIn a future British dystopian society, a shadowy freedom fighter, known only by the alias of "V", plots to overthrow the tyrannical government - with the help of a young woman.Very good movie filled with some great performances. Its popularity is deserved.
8/10 - DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMatthew ModineR. Lee ErmeyVincent D'OnofrioA pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting in Hue.Very famous war film for a reason. The first half is amazing and the second half is merely average to good. Definitely worth watching if you can stomach war films.
8/10 - DirectorKinji FukasakuStarsTatsuya FujiwaraAki MaedaTarô YamamotoIn the future, the Japanese government captures a class of ninth-grade students and forces them to kill one another under the revolutionary "Battle Royale" act.Twisted, graphic, and somewhat thought provoking. It makes the Hunger Games look like Candyland.
8/10 - DirectorKim Jee-woonStarsLee Byung-hunChoi Min-sikJeon Gook-hwanA secret agent exacts revenge on a serial killer through a series of captures and releases. One of the the most twisted revenge tales ever told.
8/10 - DirectorJoe DanteStarsZach GalliganPhoebe CatesHoyt AxtonA young man inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town.Gremlins is underrated for how unique and fun it was. This is the movie that made me grow to love horror as a kid, even if it isn't all that scary. One of the best horror comedies ever made.
8/10 - DirectorGore VerbinskiStarsJohnny DeppGeoffrey RushOrlando BloomBlacksmith Will Turner teams up with eccentric pirate "Captain" Jack Sparrow to save his love, the governor's daughter, from Jack's former pirate allies, who are now undead. The series has overstayed its welcome, but the first was a damn good pirate movie. Funny, adventurous, and even dark at times. Quite a star-studded cast too.
8/10 - DirectorJames WanStarsPatrick WilsonVera FarmigaRon LivingstonParanormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse.Remains one of horror's greatest offerings in recent years. Genre fans should not be disappointed as it combines films like Exorcist, Poltergeist, and Amityville into one.
8/10 - DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansRobert Downey Jr.Scarlett JohanssonPolitical involvement in the Avengers' affairs causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man.Very entertaining blockbuster and one of the better films to come out in 2016. Not a great story so much as it is pure entertainment.
8/10 - DirectorZack SnyderStarsGerard ButlerLena HeadeyDavid WenhamIn the ancient battle of Thermopylae, King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fight against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. They face insurmountable odds when they are betrayed by a Spartan reject.A very entertaining action romp that most have likely seen by now.
8/10 - DirectorMel BrooksStarsGene WilderMadeline KahnMarty FeldmanAn American grandson of the infamous scientist, struggling to prove that his grandfather was not as insane as people believe, is invited to Transylvania, where he discovers the process that reanimates a dead body. One of the better comedies and spoofs in my mind. Quite witty and very well done overall much like other spoofs from the 70's.
8/10 - DirectorEdgar WrightStarsSimon PeggNick FrostMartin FreemanAn overachieving London police sergeant is transferred to a village where the easygoing officers object to his fervor for regulations, all while a string of grisly murders strikes the town. When this gang gets together, a funny film is sure to happen. A very good spoof of cop films, much like Naked Gun was years before.
8/10 - DirectorRichard LinklaterStarsEthan HawkeJulie DelpySeamus Davey-FitzpatrickWe meet Jesse and Celine nine years on in Greece. Almost two decades have passed since their first meeting on that train bound for Vienna. The greatness continues. Perhaps a little too realistic for some, but that's what makes this entire series shine.
8/10 - DirectorMark HermanStarsAsa ButterfieldDavid ThewlisRupert FriendThrough the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a German concentration camp, a forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence has startling and unexpected consequences.Up there with Life is Beautiful and Schindler's List as one of the best films set during the Holocaust. The story is touching, but also very sad.
8/10 - DirectorGiuseppe TornatoreStarsGeoffrey RushJim SturgessSylvia HoeksVirgil Oldman, a wealthy art auctioneer, takes the help of a young artificer, Robert, to understand and woo Claire Ibbetson, a young heiress, who hires him to auction off an antique collection.Underrated movie that really can't be stuffed into a genre. It's elegant and Rush is fantastic.
8/10 - DirectorMark RydellStarsKatharine HepburnHenry FondaJane FondaNorman is a curmudgeon with an estranged relationship with his daughter Chelsea. At Golden Pond, he and his wife nevertheless agree to care for Billy, the son of Chelsea's new boyfriend, and a most unexpected relationship blooms. The last true film starring Henry Fonda, one of the greatest actors ever. He could still act his ass off in this. I have read from various comments on Netflix that it seemed like Fonda forget his lines. Did these people forget that his character is supposed to be losing his mind to old age? I guess his acting was over some people's heads. This movie may be rated PG, but there's a fair amount of vulgarity, so keep that in mind. The central and quite frankly depressing themes addressing aging and mortality also means that this film is not for kids.
8/10 - DirectorWes CravenStarsNeve CampbellCourteney CoxDavid ArquetteA year after the murder of her mother, a teenage girl is terrorized by a masked killer who targets her and her friends by using scary movies as part of a deadly game.Wes Craven breathed life into a stagnant genre once more when Scream came out over 20 years ago. Its satire on horror was quite good before Scary Movie came and made it seem stupid. Still one of my favorite horror films.
8/10 - DirectorScott DerricksonStarsLaura LinneyTom WilkinsonShohreh AghdashlooA lawyer takes on a negligent homicide case involving a priest who performed an exorcism on a young girl.Probably my second favorite exorcism movie. Well done and well acted. The courtroom dynamic makes this one of the better demon movies.
8/10 - DirectorClive BarkerStarsAndrew RobinsonClare HigginsAshley LaurenceA woman discovers the newly resurrected, partially formed, body of her brother-in-law and lover. She starts killing for him to revitalize his body and escape the demonic beings that are pursuing him after he escaped their underworld. The plot was pretty creative for a horror film and the acting is honestly some of the better acting in the genre. This film is dated, but still effective. The Cenobites also make for interesting "antagonists." The film's focus on sexual obsession and pleasure is what makes it stand out.
8/10 - DirectorTony RandelStarsDoug BradleyAshley LaurenceClare HigginsKirsty is brought to an institution after the horrible events of Hellraiser (1987), where the occult-obsessive head doctor resurrects Julia and unleashes the Cenobites and their demonic underworld. If you enjoyed the first Hellraiser, then you'll like this one too. It's the perfect part two for the series and one of the better horror sequels. More focus is placed on Pinhead and the Cenobites in this one and that's not a bad thing.
8/10 - DirectorNeil MarshallStarsShauna MacdonaldNatalie MendozaAlex ReidA caving expedition goes horribly wrong, as the explorers become trapped and ultimately pursued by a strange breed of predators.Still one of the finest horror films of the 21st century. It oozes tension and claustrophobia.
8/10 - DirectorYeon Sang-hoStarsGong YooJung Yu-miMa Dong-seokWhile a zombie virus breaks out in South Korea, passengers struggle to survive on the train from Seoul to Busan. The best zombie/infected movie since 28 Days Later. Good characters and a nightmarish world make for a zombie movie that stands out. Foreign horror should not be slept on.
8/10 - DirectorNa Hong-jinStarsJun KunimuraHwang Jung-minKwak Do-wonSoon after a stranger arrives in a little village, a mysterious sickness starts spreading. A policeman, drawn into the incident, is forced to solve the mystery in order to save his daughter.Another very good Korean horror film. This is a long movie at 2.5 hours, but it was worth it. A strange and eerie tale that is unlike anything Hollywood pumps out these days. The themes are deep and the ending is open to some interpretation, which may put some people off.
8/10 - DirectorJoel SchumacherStarsJason PatricCorey HaimDianne WiestAfter moving to a new town, two brothers discover that the area is a haven for vampires. One of the best vampires movies without question. Classic 80's film like Goonies.
8/10 - DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHenry ThomasDrew BarrymorePeter CoyoteA troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape from Earth and return to his home planet. It has become cool to hate for some reason. To me it is one of the best family films from the 80's. Not Spielberg's strongest obviously, but it is iconic for a reason.
8/10 - DirectorJon FavreauStarsNeel SethiBill MurrayBen KingsleyAfter a threat from the tiger Shere Khan forces him to flee the jungle, a man-cub named Mowgli embarks on a journey of self discovery with the help of panther Bagheera and free-spirited bear Baloo.Personally, I liked what they did with this. Great voice cast and stays true to the original while also being somewhat different. I liked it much more than Cinderella and Maleficent.
8/10 - DirectorMarc ForsterStarsEwan McGregorHayley AtwellBronte CarmichaelA working-class family man, Christopher Robin, encounters his childhood friend Winnie-the-Pooh, who helps him to rediscover the joys of life.A bit underrated. Not necessarily for kids, more of a family film. Great for people like me who grew up with Pooh. It is surprisingly funny too.
8/10 - DirectorHenry SelickStarsDakota FanningTeri HatcherJohn HodgmanWandering her rambling old house in her boring new town, an 11-year-old Coraline discovers a hidden door to a strangely idealized version of her life. In order to stay in the fantasy, she must make a frighteningly real sacrifice.A great movie and one of the more macabre animated films out there. It will likely scare younger children, so it may not be for the whole family.
8/10 - DirectorDon BluthGary GoldmanStarsMeg RyanJohn CusackChristopher LloydThe last surviving child of the Russian Royal Family joins two con men to reunite with her grandmother, the Dowager Empress, while the undead Rasputin seeks her death.Probably one of the best animated movies not made by Disney. Christopher Lloyd as Rasputin is one of the better villains in animation. It also makes for interesting fiction based off a rather dark historical event.
8/10 - DirectorDon BluthStarsPat HingleGabriel DamonHelen ShaverAn orphaned brontosaurus teams up with other young dinosaurs in order to reunite with their families in a valley.Forget about the mostly awful sequels. This is one of the best dinosaur movies ever. Like most Bluth movies, it's a bit darker than typical Disney fare of the period.
8/10 - DirectorDon BluthStarsDom DeLuiseChristopher PlummerErica YohnWhile emigrating to the United States, a young Russian mouse gets separated from his family and must locate them while trying to survive in a new country.Another Bluth classic. A bit underrated quite honestly. The music is quite catchy.
8/10 - DirectorTony BancroftBarry CookStarsMing-Na WenEddie MurphyBD WongTo save her father from death in the army, a young maiden secretly goes in his place and becomes one of China's greatest heroines in the process. One of the strongest female protagonists in animation and one of the best in general. This movie was better and funnier than I remembered having watched it again in 2017.
8/10 - DirectorBrenda ChapmanSteve HicknerSimon WellsStarsVal KilmerRalph FiennesMichelle PfeifferEgyptian Prince Moses learns of his identity as a Hebrew and his destiny to become the chosen deliverer of his people. The Prince of Egypt was one of the finest looking cartoons at the time of its release nearly 20 years ago. It's a different take on the story of Exodus because it focuses very much on two brothers. Ralph Fiennes and Val Kilmer do a very nice job at voice acting in this one.
8/10 - DirectorAndrew StantonAngus MacLaneStarsEllen DeGeneresAlbert BrooksEd O'NeillFriendly but forgetful blue tang Dory begins a search for her long-lost parents and everyone learns a few things about the real meaning of family along the way.Though it may be unnecessary, I quite enjoyed it. The voice cast is great and the humor worked well.
8/10 - DirectorRichard KellyStarsJake GyllenhaalJena MaloneMary McDonnellAfter narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit who manipulates him to commit a series of crimes.A bit trippy and out there, but that is part of its charm.
8/10 - DirectorRuben FleischerStarsJesse EisenbergEmma StoneWoody HarrelsonA shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting bruiser in search of the last Twinkie and a pair of sisters striving to get to an amusement park join forces in a trek across a zombie-filled America.A great time and one of the best zombie films out there.
8/10 - DirectorDavid O. RussellStarsBradley CooperJennifer LawrenceRobert De NiroAfter a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.I also enjoyed this one a fair bit and I'm not one for romantic comedies typically.
8/10 - DirectorAndrew DavisStarsShia LaBeoufSigourney WeaverJon VoightA wrongfully convicted boy is sent to a brutal desert detention camp where he joins the job of digging holes for some mysterious reason.A good family film that does one of my favorite childhood books justice.
8/10 - DirectorPeter SegalStarsSteve CarellAnne HathawayAlan ArkinMaxwell Smart, a highly intellectual but bumbling spy working for the CONTROL agency, is tasked with preventing a terrorist attack from rival spy agency KAOS.Steve Carell is awesome, but many of his movies have been less than awesome. Get Smart is one of my favorites from him. I found this to be a good blend of silliness with a fun cast.
8/10 - DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordKaren AllenPaul FreemanIn 1936, archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is hired by the U.S. government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis can obtain its awesome powers.A classic film and a favorite of many. As someone who saw it for the first time not too long ago, I was not as huge of a fan as many are. Still need to see the rest of the trilogy.
7/10 - DirectorGareth EdwardsStarsFelicity JonesDiego LunaAlan TudykIn a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction.A good addition to the Star Wars universe. I enjoyed it more than Episode VII personally. I don't think there was anything groundbreaking, but it made for a nice side story.
7/10 - DirectorTaika WaititiStarsChris HemsworthTom HiddlestonCate BlanchettImprisoned on the planet Sakaar, Thor must race against time to return to Asgard and stop Ragnarök, the destruction of his world, at the hands of the powerful and ruthless villain Hela. One of the funnier Marvel movies and Thor's best outing. Still, it doesn't all come together as well as one would hope.
7/10 - DirectorJames GunnStarsChris PrattZoe SaldanaDave BautistaThe Guardians struggle to keep together as a team while dealing with their personal family issues, notably Star-Lord's encounter with his father, the ambitious celestial being Ego.Lacks substance but makes up for it in action and humor.
7/10 - DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsDaniel Day-LewisSally FieldDavid StrathairnAs the Civil War rages on, U.S President Abraham Lincoln struggles with continuing carnage on the battlefield as he fights with many inside his own cabinet on his decision to emancipate the slaves. Not the most exciting, but DDL's performance as Lincoln is among the greatest acting of all time. Tommy Lee Jones also shines. I don't think a film about Lincoln could ever please everyone, but Spielberg did a solid job.
7/10 - DirectorWes AndersonStarsJared GilmanKara HaywardBruce WillisTwo 12-year-olds, who live on an island, fall in love with each other and elope into the wilderness. While people set out on a search mission, a violent storm approaching them catches their attention.A unique and sweet film, if nothing else. A couple of good cameos in it too.
7/10 - DirectorBrad BirdStarsCraig T. NelsonHolly HunterSarah VowellThe Incredibles family takes on a new mission which involves a change in family roles: Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) must manage the house while his wife Helen (Elastigirl) goes out to save the world. This to me was a decent movie, but an overall disappointment. It didn't really measure up to the original. Mainly the story and villain are not nearly as good. Few sequels could measure up to the hype and long wait this had.
7/10 - DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsTom HanksRobin WrightGary SiniseThe history of the United States from the 1950s to the '70s unfolds from the perspective of an Alabama man with an IQ of 75, who yearns to be reunited with his childhood sweetheart.Shawshank should have taken Best Picture that year, but Forrest Gump is still a solid movie. Tom Hanks gives a memorable and iconic performance of a man who is not nearly as simple as he seems. The little tie-ins to history are my favorite part of this movie and the soundtrack made use of some great songs. The more I see it though, the less I like it. The character of Jenny is just so unlikable and beyond redemption, that it hurts the movie for me.
7/10 - DirectorAriel VromenStarsMichael ShannonChris EvansJames FrancoThe story of Richard Kuklinski, the notorious contract killer and family man. When he was finally arrested in 1986, neither his wife nor his daughters had any clue about his real profession.Quite well acted. May not have entirely captured what some may have wanted from a story about Kuklinski though.
7/10 - DirectorStephen SommersStarsBrendan FraserRachel WeiszJohn HannahAt an archaeological dig in the ancient city of Hamunaptra, an American serving in the French Foreign Legion accidentally awakens a mummy who begins to wreak havoc as he searches for the reincarnation of his long-lost love.Nothing spectacular, but good mindless fun.
7/10 - DirectorGerard JohnstoneStarsMorgana O'ReillyRima Te WiataGlen-Paul WaruA young woman is forced to return to her childhood home after being placed under house arrest, where she suspects that something evil may be lurking.Deserves more recognition than it has received. A very solid blend of horror and comedy. Worth a watch for any horror fan.
7/10 - DirectorKevin KölschDennis WidmyerStarsAlexandra EssoeAmanda FullerNoah SeganA hopeful young starlet uncovers the ominous origins of the Hollywood elite and enters into a deadly agreement in exchange for fame and fortune. One of the more disturbing movies I've ever seen. It's graphic and creepy. Not overly creative, but the execution is very good.
7/10 - DirectorDavid Robert MitchellStarsMaika MonroeKeir GilchristOlivia LuccardiA young woman is followed by an unknown supernatural force after a sexual encounter. One of the better horror films in recent years. Very much an homage to 70's horror.
7/10 - DirectorDavid KoeppStarsKevin BaconZachary David CopeKathryn ErbeAfter being hypnotized by his sister-in-law, a man begins seeing haunting visions of a girl's ghost and a mystery begins to unfold around him.Overshadowed by the Sixth Sense during the year of its release. Underrated horror film.
7/10 - DirectorBrad AndersonStarsKate BeckinsaleJim SturgessDavid ThewlisAn Oxford graduate takes up a job in a mental asylum, only to discover that the "revolutionary" new treatments are inhumane, and that there is more going on than meets the eye.A very nicely done thriller that didn't even go to theaters despite having such a strong cast. Don't watch the trailer though, too many spoilers in there. Atmospheric and well executed.
7/10 - DirectorChristophe GansStarsRadha MitchellLaurie HoldenSean BeanA woman, Rose, goes in search for her adopted daughter within the confines of a strange, desolate town called Silent Hill.Potentially the best video game adaptation. Not as good as the heights of the series itself, but nails a certain level of atmosphere and creepiness. Games like Silent Hill 2 represent horror at its best in any medium, but this movie was pretty good.
7/10 - DirectorF. Gary GrayStarsGerard ButlerJamie FoxxLeslie BibbA frustrated man decides to take justice into his own hands after a plea bargain sets one of his family's killers free.A good and potentially great movie, but one of my least favorite endings ever. It puts a damper on it for sure.
7/10 - DirectorJennifer KentStarsEssie DavisNoah WisemanDaniel HenshallA single mother and her child fall into a deep well of paranoia when an eerie children's book titled "Mister Babadook" manifests in their home.Don't watch it as a horror movie, although it has some good horror elements. Treat it more like a drama or dark thriller. You will probably get more out of it that way. Very metaphorical film with a decent amount of creepiness.
7/10 - DirectorEli CraigStarsTyler LabineAlan TudykKatrina BowdenAffable hillbillies Tucker and Dale are on vacation at their dilapidated mountain cabin when they are mistaken for murderers by a group of preppy college students. In the same vein as Shaun of the Dead and Cabin in the Woods, although not quite as good as either. It'll give you a few laughs regardless with plenty of gore for good measure.
7/10 - DirectorAnthony DiBlasiStarsJuliana HarkavyJoshua MikelHank StoneA rookie cop is tasked with taking the last shift at a police station before it is permanently closed, but it turns into a living nightmare. An underrated and pretty solid horror film. The thumbnail misrepresents the movie as a whole. More than anything, it is psychological horror. The ending was not great, but I didn't hate it either.
7/10 - DirectorDavid SladeStarsJosh HartnettMelissa GeorgeDanny HustonAfter an Alaskan town is plunged into darkness for a month, it is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires. One of the better modern vampire films. Violent and suspenseful.
7/10 - DirectorChristian AlvartStarsDennis QuaidBen FosterCam GigandetTwo crew members of a spaceship wake up from hypersleep to discover that all their colleagues are missing. Despite this, it appears that they are not alone.Fans of Event Horizon should also appreciate this one. It falls a bit short of truly being great, but remains a good example of sci-fi horror.
7/10 - DirectorWes CravenStarsNeve CampbellCourteney CoxDavid ArquetteTwo years after the first series of murders, as Sidney acclimates to college life, someone donning the Ghostface costume begins a new string of killings. Some disagree, but Scream 2 is the best outside the first and one of the better horror sequels.
7/10 - DirectorMike FlanaganStarsJohn Gallagher Jr.Kate SiegelMichael TruccoA deaf and mute writer who retreated into the woods to live a solitary life must fight for her life in silence when a masked killer appears at her window.Absolutely worth a watch for fans of this type of movie. This is one of the better "home invasion" films out there. Simple, effective, and rather well done overall.
7/10 - DirectorRobert LiebermanStarsD.B. SweeneyRobert PatrickCraig ShefferAn Arizona logger mysteriously disappears for five days in an alleged encounter with a flying saucer in 1975. His co-workers endure ridicule and contempt as they are wrongly accused of murder.Underrated alien movie. Good acting mixed with some unsettling scenes.
7/10 - DirectorBabak AnvariStarsNarges RashidiAvin ManshadiBobby NaderiAs a mother and daughter struggle to cope with the terrors of the post-revolution, war-torn Tehran of the 1980s, a mysterious evil begins to haunt their home.Another good foreign horror movie. The historical setting of wartime Tehran offers a unique and realistic feel.
7/10 - DirectorVincenzo NataliStarsNicole de BoerMaurice Dean WintDavid HewlettA group of strangers awaken to find themselves placed in a giant cube. Each one of them is gifted with a special skill and they must work together to escape an endless maze of deadly traps. One of those films where the concept is so unique that it saves everything else. The acting is pretty weak in parts, but I found it to be an entertaining psychological thriller/horror.
7/10 - DirectorPatrick BriceStarsKatie AseltonPatrick BriceMark DuplassA young videographer answers an online ad for a one-day job in a remote town to record the last messages of a dying man. When he notices the man's odd behavior, he starts to question his intentions.Realistically creepy. If you can put aside the stupidity of the main character, then it is one of the better found footage films in recent years.
7/10 - DirectorPatrick BriceStarsKaran SoniMark DuplassDesiree AkhavanA video artist looking for work drives to a remote house in the forest to meet a man claiming to be a serial killer. But after agreeing to spend the day with him, she soon realizes that she made a deadly mistake. One of horror's best characters in recent years makes a return. The tone is quite different from the original, but arguably an even better movie.
7/10 - DirectorCan EvrenolStarsMehmet CerrahogluGörkem KasalErgun KuyucuA squad of unsuspecting cops go through a trapdoor to Hell when they stumble upon a Black Mass in an abandoned building. This was a solid piece of foreign horror. Far from perfect, but quite strange and unsettling at times. I feel a longer run time might have been beneficial here and the mixing of tones didn't always work. Overall it was a rather unique presentation.
7/10 - DirectorTim BurtonStarsJohnny DeppHelena Bonham CarterAlan RickmanThe legendary tale of a barber who returns from wrongful imprisonment to 1840s London, bent on revenge for the rape and death of his wife, and resumes his trade while forming a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett.Catchy and macabre.
7/10 - DirectorEdgar WrightStarsMichael CeraMary Elizabeth WinsteadKieran CulkinIn a magically realistic version of Toronto, a young man must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes one by one in order to win her heart. This is an odd movie to be sure. Comic book comedy that is unlike any other.
7/10 - DirectorHarold RamisStarsChevy ChaseRodney DangerfieldBill MurrayAn exclusive golf course has to deal with a flatulent new member and a destructive dancing gopher.A great cast makes for a funny movie. Rodney is at his best.
7/10 - DirectorTim BurtonStarsPaul ReubensElizabeth DailyMark HoltonWhen eccentric man-child Pee-wee Herman gets his beloved bike stolen in broad daylight, he sets out across the U.S. on the adventure of his life.A very well done comedy. Very strange with plenty of great moments. One of Tim Burton's better movies.
7/10 - DirectorGore VerbinskiStarsJohnny DeppOrlando BloomKeira KnightleyJack Sparrow races to recover the heart of Davy Jones to avoid enslaving his soul to Jones' service, as other friends and foes seek the heart for their own agenda as well.In many ways a an entertaining mess. Jack Sparrow and the surrounding cast were still quite entertaining. Bill Nighy never disappoints and he serves as the highlight here as Davy Jones.
7/10 - DirectorLeslie H. MartinsonStarsAdam WestBurt WardLee MeriwetherThe Dynamic Duo faces four supervillains who plan to hold the world for ransom with the help of a secret invention that instantly dehydrates people.Prepare for the camp and the cringe when you watch this one. For me, it is so bad it's good. The cast is very good regardless.
7/10 - DirectorRon HowardStarsJim CarreyTaylor MomsenKelleyOn the outskirts of Whoville lives a green, revenge-seeking Grinch who plans to ruin Christmas for all of the citizens of the town. This is not a great movie, but it has grown on me over the years. Jim Carrey's wackiness is not for everyone, but he really goes all in as the Grinch. Completely overdone and that is what makes it amusing.
7/10 - DirectorJohn LeeStarsPaul ReubensJordan BlackDoug CoxA fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first holiday ever in this epic story of friendship and destiny.Pee-wee is back and just as rude as ever. Quite a funny family movie with plenty of laughs.

Not every segment is great, but the film was truly ahead of its time back when Disney did things no one dreamed of, or necessarily even wanted.

I tend to agree, but that's what makes it unique. This movie contains a lot of important underlying themes not found in a typical Disney movie. Addressing an imperfect family and being a social outcast are just two of those themes.
7/10 - DirectorChris BuckKevin LimaStarsTony GoldwynMinnie DriverBrian BlessedA man raised by gorillas must decide where he really belongs when he discovers he is a human. Not my favorite Disney movie, but still a good one. Rosie O'Donnell puts a major damper on this, but hey she was popular at the time.
7/10 - DirectorRon ClementsJohn MuskerDon HallStarsAuli'i CravalhoDwayne JohnsonRachel HouseIn ancient Polynesia, when a terrible curse incurred by the demigod Maui reaches Moana's island, she answers the Ocean's call to seek out Maui to set things right. It has its moments and is really funny at times, but it feels a bit safe and generic compared to Zootopia. I put it on the level of Big Hero 6. Pretty good, but very unlikely to be considered an animated classic down the line.
7/10 - DirectorBibo BergeronDon PaulJeffrey KatzenbergStarsKevin KlineKenneth BranaghRosie PerezTwo swindlers get their hands on a map to the fabled city of gold, El Dorado.Pretty funny and not as bad as critics made it out to be. Not a modern animated classic, but rather fun for what it aims to be.

When they unexpectedly discover they're now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance?Watched it for the first time recently. I understand the love, but not my kind of movie. Fans of musicals have likely seen this many times.

His suitability will soon be tested as the valley's arch-enemy is on his way.I thought it was pretty good, but I was not as much of a fan as so many others.

Decent, but wasn't enough to bring the series back into more modern times.
