STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION SEASON 1 RATINGS
by nikosokilleras | created - 27 Oct 2019 | updated - 01 Mar 2020 | PublicEven though I knew the first seasons of TNG are rough, I am still disappointed. Honestly what ruined this season is G.Roddenberry's involvement. Yeah I know that we owe to that man the great TOS (and and the existence of the whole Trek franchise for that matter), but he was so stuck in the 60s and the TOS formula that being a showrunner for TNG was a horrible mistake. Most of the stories are lacking too much. There are either leftovers from TOS, which didn't make it to the respective series, or first drafts of a potentially good plot that needed more process, but didn't get it. What carries this season, and makes it even enjoyable, are P.Stewart and B.Spiner's Data. Data is such an intriguing and well-acted character, even though he is supposed to be TNG's Spock, he is quite different than him due to his constant struggle to be more human Unfortunately the rest of the crew isn't exactly stellar at all. Riker, Troi, Yiar, Dr.Crusher and particularly Wesley are terribly written and the performances of the cast don't help either. Picard himself, is a leading personality of course, but he is also too self-restrained and kind of boring. And maybe i'm too used to Kirk, but I hated that he never joined the exploration party on the missions. Geordi and Worf were good, but underdeveloped too. The special effects were good for the 80's. The action scenes were very basic and so were most of the villains, though Q is a fav Overall Rating: 7.4/10
