The term flop film does not exist when Fincher is in the directors chair. Here is how I rank his films.

- DirectorDavid FincherStarsMorgan FreemanBrad PittKevin SpaceyTwo detectives, a rookie and a veteran, hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his motives.Dark, sinister, tense. This movie is what I consider to be the first true Fincher film. The ending is perfect, not some sort of horrible Hollywood garbage.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsMichael DouglasDeborah Kara UngerSean PennAfter a wealthy San Francisco banker is given an opportunity to participate in a mysterious game, his life is turned upside down as he begins to question if it might really be a concealed conspiracy to destroy him. This film focuses on the subjects of manipulation and control. This is a tense thriller that kept me continuously on the edge of my seat. The ending kept this from being my favorite Fincher film.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsJake GyllenhaalRobert Downey Jr.Mark RuffaloBetween 1968 and 1983, a San Francisco cartoonist becomes an amateur detective obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac Killer, an unidentified individual who terrorizes Northern California with a killing spree.Slavishly historically accurate. This film is not often mentioned for great acting, but the three leads were excellent. The climax of this movie is two people simply staring at each other across a room, but was one of the most tense moments I have ever seen in a film. The attention to detail makes this movie especially intriguing.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsDaniel CraigRooney MaraChristopher PlummerJournalist Mikael Blomkvist is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing for 40 years by young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander.Significantly more atmospheric that the original. Cinematography is top notch. A fairly faithful adaptation of the book.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsBen AffleckRosamund PikeNeil Patrick HarrisWith his wife's disappearance having become the focus of an intense media circus, a man sees the spotlight turned on him when it's suspected that he may not be innocent.I always like a movie that condemns the sensationalism of media, particularly network television. Rosamund Pike should have won Best Actress for her work in the movie. The last 20 minutes of the movie was slightly subpar, but didn't sink the film.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsBrad PittEdward NortonMeat LoafAn insomniac office worker and a devil-may-care soap maker form an underground fight club that evolves into much more. The first time I watched this movie, I was entertained. The second time, I was blown away by all of the small details I missed the first time through. I think it is slightly overrated, but a good film nonetheless.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsJesse EisenbergAndrew GarfieldJustin TimberlakeAs Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg creates the social networking site that would become known as Facebook, he is sued by the twins who claimed he stole their idea and by the co-founder who was later squeezed out of the business. Many point to Eisenberg for the acting, but I actually think Andrew Garfield gives an under-appreciated performance. Excellent proof that Fincher is not a one trick pony in terms of movie genres.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsBrad PittCate BlanchettTilda SwintonTells the story of Benjamin Button, a man who starts aging backwards with consequences. Not a bad film, it just didn't click for me.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsJodie FosterKristen StewartForest WhitakerA divorced woman and her diabetic daughter take refuge in their newly-purchased house's safe room when three men break-in, searching for a missing fortune. This Hitchcockesque thriller has a very simple plot, and is shot almost entirely on a relatively small set. The camerawork is very creative, especially on panning shots, but unfortunately the actual plot limited the potential for this film.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsSigourney WeaverCharles S. DuttonCharles DanceReturning from LV-426, Ellen Ripley crash-lands on the maximum-security prison Fiorina 161, where she discovers that she has unwittingly brought along an unwelcome visitor.Fincher himself has disowned this film. His directorial debut was creatively not under his control, which is a shame. Imagine an Alien film by Fincher that he had total artistic control over.
