My Ten Favorite Movies
These are my top ten favorite movies. The first five are #1-5 but only in chronological order, not necessarily my top movie at the beginning. The next five are #6-10 favorite, this time not in any order at all.

- DirectorJohn FordStarsJohn WayneJoanne DruJohn AgarCaptain Nathan Brittles, on the eve of retirement, takes out a last patrol to stop an impending massive Indian attack. Encumbered by women who must be evacuated, Brittles finds his mission imperiled. One of my top five, had to have a John Wayne movie in there, and this is my favorite movie of The Duke as well. Also one of my favorites because of Ben Johnson's excellent performance as the ex-Rebel Captain who is now the top scout Sergeant for C Troop. This is also my favorite John Ford movie. His excellent direction and the humor mixed in across this movie make it one of the best westerns of all time, besides being one of my favorites.
- DirectorFranklin J. SchaffnerStarsGeorge C. ScottKarl MaldenStephen YoungThe World War II phase of the career of controversial American general George S. Patton. The only one of my favorites to have won, or even been nominated, for the Best Picture Oscar. George C. Scott also won Best Actor (which I believe John Wayne definitely should have received for She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, although he was already nominated that same year for Sands of Iwo Jima, even if it wasn't as good a performance). Anyway this movie has the possibly the best known opening of any movie and has been spoofed too many times to count. Like most of the movies on this list, I remember watching this as a little kid and pretending to be Patton. I've had the opening speech memorized since I can remember! It's also a plus that it's almost all Patton's own words and it's also a plus for the whole film that it is mostly historically accurate.
- DirectorHal NeedhamStarsBurt ReynoldsSally FieldJerry ReedThe Bandit is hired on to run a tractor-trailer full of beer over state lines, in hot pursuit by a pesky sheriff. This is my "just plain fun" movie of the top five favorites. Considering I know all of the movies by heart, this one is the only one that I know every character's line, not just the main ones. Also, like the previous two movies, I don't remember the first time I saw it because I was probably still a baby. The movie is the greatest car chase movie of all time and also has my favorite song of all time, "Eastbound and Down" by the late, great Jerry Reed. It is also the only film that I have gotten to reenact on the road (the highway between Athens and Atlanta) multiple times.
- DirectorRon MaxwellStarsTom BerengerMartin SheenStephen LangIn 1863, the Northern and Southern forces fight at Gettysburg in the decisive battle of the American Civil War.This is the first of the films on this list that actually came out after I was born, so I do actually remember the first time I saw it (even though I was only 6 or 7). It's really long but it doesn't feel like it and I still root for the Rebs like its a football game during Pickett's Charge (which my dad still can't watch to this day, since the first time he saw it) even though I know they're going to loose. I also wished they had an alternate ending where the South won, just for fun. Anyway the film is great as it is, with great performances especially by Tom Berenger as Lieutenant General James Longstreet, Jeff Daniels as Colonel Joshua Chamberlain, Martin Sheen (whom I normally don't like actually, but he gave a good performance here) as General Robert E. Lee, and a great cameo by Sam Elliott as Brigadier General John Buford. With the historical accuracy, this film has it all!
- DirectorRoland EmmerichStarsWill SmithBill PullmanJeff GoldblumThe aliens are coming and their goal is to invade and destroy Earth. Fighting superior technology, mankind's best weapon is the will to survive. The only sci-fi movie in my top five, I remember seeing this one three times in the theater when it came out! Really fun with special effects that are still spectacular. This film has it all and its pretty funny too, unlike most of this type of film, which can take themselves too seriously. Besides owning it and watching it throughout the year multiple times, I always watch this film on July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th every year by going along with the movie itself. Its become a fun tradition that I keep no matter where I am. Definitely the best alien invasion movie ever made!
