- DirectorSam RaimiStarsBruce CampbellEllen SandweissRichard DeManincorFive friends travel to a cabin in the woods, where they unknowingly release flesh-possessing demons. The worst case of extreme PMS I have ever seen :D
I saw this movie over twenty years ago and now, because of the "Ash vs Evil Dead" series, I decided to see all three movies again, before I start the show. Classic B horror of the '80s. Fun enough but, to be honest, it's a pretty bad movie. I rate it five out of ten.
5/10 - DirectorJoe DanteStarsZach GalliganPhoebe CatesHoyt AxtonA young man inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town.Lovable family horror comedy
One of my favorite childhood movies. Easy going horror-comedy, one of the very few that succeeds in mixing those two genres and not ending up as complete crap. The story is smart and nicely told, with good acting and directing. It's entertaining and slightly scary, especially if you are a kid. And Gizmo is one of the cutest things ever shown on the big screen. True family movie from the '80s.
7/10 - DirectorUmberto LenziStarsGiovanni Lombardo RadiceLorraine De SelleDanilo MatteiThree friends set out to disprove cannibalism on a trip to the Amazonian jungle, where they meet two men trying to escape a vicious cannibal tribe."Oh God, please let her die soon. Oh, let her die soon. And let me die soon too, please."
A group of anthropologists travels to the jungles of Colombia to study the tribe believed to be cannibalistic. The tribe is enslaved by drug dealers and, when the enslaved natives freed themselves and started revenge, anthropologists find themselves in a crossfire. The film shows explicit violence, torture and killing, it is not for those with a weak stomach, and it was banned in over thirty countries. It's disgusting in every way and its artistic value is equal to zero, and yet something made me see it through and prevented me from burying it with the rating.

Pre-credits disclaimer: The following feature is one of the most violent films ever made. There are at least two dozen scenes of barbaric torture and sadistic cruelty graphically shown. If the presentation of disgusting and repulsive subject matter upsets you, please do not view this film. - DirectorRuggero DeodatoStarsRobert KermanFrancesca CiardiPerry PirkanenDuring a rescue mission into the Amazon rainforest, a professor stumbles across lost film shot by a missing documentary crew.Only for fans of disgusting footage
For his work on the film, the director was arrested by Italian authorities on suspicion of murder charges and faced life in prison, following its 1980 Milan premiere. He endured a trial when Italian authorities were unconvinced that the footage was indeed staged. Deodato lost the original trial, and all prints were to be destroyed, but he managed to have the ruling overturned in the early '80s when the actors finally appeared on TV to prove otherwise.
Some five years passed before the film saw release in Deodato's home country. This movie was banned for twenty years in many countries.
5/10 - DirectorTom HollandStarsCatherine HicksChris SarandonAlex VincentA struggling single mother unknowingly gifts her son a doll imbued with a serial killer's consciousness. One of the '80s cult "horrors". Only when I remember how scary this was to me when I was a kid, and now I can not classify it as horror at all. Although I have no idea where else to put it. The '80s were the golden era for this kind of movies and this one is one of the best in this genre. The only trouble is that watching one of them reminds me of five others and then I have to see them again and then I remember many more and it is a vicious circle that never ends.
8/10 which is basically 10/10 within the genre :D - DirectorRoger CormanStarsVincent PriceMark DamonMyrna FaheyUpon entering his fiancée's family mansion, a man discovers a savage family curse and fears that his future brother-in-law has entombed his bride-to-be prematurely."And the deep and dark tarn closed silently over the fragments of the House of Usher" - Poe
By today's standards this isn't horror at all and to younger generations, accustomed to adrenaline rushes, this could even be a bit boring, but those old horrors, and old movies overall, have some special kind of charms that today's hyper-production can't achieve anymore. The scenario is based on the famous story by Edgar Allan Poe and I think it faithfully conveys Poe's poetics and overall atmosphere, and Vincent Price in the leading role is always a safe choice for this type of movie. Just forget about modern technology, turn off all the lights, preferably on a stormy night, sit back comfortably and imagine that you're reading a book. When dark castle emerges from the fog, eerily lit by a full moon, with storm and curtains carried by the wind, the atmosphere of this classic for all times will drag you into the story and obsolescence of production won't bother you at all.
8/10 - DirectorJoe DanteChuck JonesStarsZach GalliganPhoebe CatesHowie MandelThe Gremlins are back, and this time, they've taken control of a New York City media mogul's high-tech skyscraper.Rarely good sequel
This one has significantly better effects than the previous and Gremlins are more realistic and scary. From the technical quality point of view, it is definitely a better movie. But it is also a completely different movie and because of taste differences, many will disagree with me on which one is better. While the first movie has a somewhat serious storyline, tells the scary tale with some comic reliefs, the second movie is more parody to the first one than it is its sequel. Yes, the storyline picks up where the first movie left, but the tone of the film is completely different. It is not an '80s light horror type of the movie anymore, it reminds more of the "Scary Movie" type of film. It is fast, fun, full of pranks and references to famous fantasy movies and characters, like Batman, Wicked Witch of Oz, and many more. The first one has a much better story, but this one is better produced and more fun.
8/10 - DirectorDaniel HallerStarsSandra DeeDean StockwellEd BegleyWilbur Whateley travels to the Arkham Miskatonic University to borrow the legendary Necronomicon. But, little does anyone know, Whateley isn't quite human...LOVEcraft
Objectively, this movie is nothing special, but it almost perfectly conveys Lovecraft's atmosphere. For true Lovecraft fans, this will be a real delicacy. For the rest of you, this is nothing but mediocre '70s horror.
7/10 - CreatorJohn LoganStarsJosh HartnettTimothy DaltonEva GreenExplorer Sir Malcolm Murray, American gunslinger Ethan Chandler, scientist Victor Frankenstein and medium Vanessa Ives unite to combat supernatural threats in Victorian London."Strikes the perfect balance between Gothic
art-house horror and gory B-movie action.
Well, I'm trying to write a completely spoiler-free review here, but I guess it's safe to announce that 'Penny Dreadful' looks positively gorgeous. Great production design and cinematography: by the time we get to see Victorian London as night descends upon the city and the fog starts creeping through those narrow cobblestone alleys, nearly every frame looks like a beautiful, Gothic painting (and not once did I spot a fake looking CG-background). As far as the actors are concerned, they portray their obscure, troubled characters with a certain kind of "theatre" intensity that fits the story and the turn-of-the-century setting very well.
Story-wise I don't want to give away anything – but of course, there are unholy things lurking in the shadows that need to be fought (and they look rather convincing: the make-up effects are another strong point of this show). Like the iconic "Hammer Horror" films of old (usually starring either Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing – or both), 'Penny Dreadful' draws its setting, characters and general inspiration mainly from some famously dark tales written by Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and Oscar Wilde (and to a lesser extent from sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories). And just like the Hammer films - who may seem rather tame now but were shockingly violent for their time - this show is neither for purists of said literary works nor for the faint of heart.
While some scenes are genuinely scary in a tension building, "old school" kind of way, we also get blood soaked action sequences that will probably put off some viewers, but seem entirely appropriate given the show's title (in the 19th century a "penny dreadful" used to be a booklet of cheap, sensational fiction printed on pulp paper which could be purchased for - wait for it: a penny).
My overall verdict: 'Penny Dreadful' dishes out a hefty mix of gory violence, classic horror creatures, sex and action, but it never forgets to build atmosphere. The B-movie elements are undeniably there, but they're deliberate (the title says it all), and this is by no means a cheap affair. Beautifully crafted and with a great cast, I strongly recommend this show to anyone who likes the old "Hammer Horror" movies as well as films in the vein of Tim Burton's 'Sweeney Todd' and 'Sleepy Hollow'.
But not just for the fans of "Goth Horror" is this well worth checking out; I would say that after 'True Detective' and perhaps 'Fargo' this is one of the most promising new TV-shows of 2014."- gogoschka-1
8,5/10 - DirectorNeil JordanStarsBrad PittTom CruiseAntonio BanderasA vampire tells his epic life story: love, betrayal, loneliness, and hunger. The best vampire movie
In an endless sea of vampire vomit, this movie stands as one of the best movies in vampire "genre" and, after every vampire crap I have a misfortune to see, I gladly go back to this one to wash off crap from my brain.
I don't like Kirsten and I hate Tom Cruise, but here both of them fit perfectly. Brad is good by default, I love Christian, and the only issue is Banderas. I simply cannot see him as a vampire, but his role is too small to influence the overall impression.
8/10 - DirectorFrank HenenlotterStarsRick HearstGordon MacDonaldJennifer LowryOne morning, a young man wakes to find that a small, disgusting creature has attached itself to the base of his brain stem. The creature gives him a euphoric state of happiness but demands human victims in return."This is the start of your new life Brian, a life full of colors, music, light, and euphoria. A life without pain, or hurt or suffering."
Original and entertaining story, but once again tragicomic realization. Production is so bad that it hurts. The impression is that the movie is not made by professionals at all, but by a random group of horror fans. Still, as bad as it is, I must acknowledge its originality and strong drug addiction message. I'm not sure if the whole movie is intentionally made as drug addiction metaphor, but it's there. For me, the best scene in the movie is probably the most bizarre scene of "oral sex" in the history of cinematography. You can find it on YouTube.
5,5/10 - DirectorRobert RodriguezStarsHarvey KeitelGeorge ClooneyJuliette LewisTwo criminals and their hostages unknowingly seek temporary refuge in a truck stop populated by vampires, with chaotic results."Well, it's been one long goddamn hot miserable shit-ass fuckin' day every inch of the way"
Why the hell is average rating on IMDb just seven?! Rodriguez, Tarantino, Clooney, Keitel, Lewis, Salma, Cheech,... The story that starts as an action/crime and then suddenly twists into a horror/black comedy... And on top of that unbelievable soundtrack. What more can you expect from a movie?!
9/10 - DirectorMark A.Z. DippéStarsMichael Jai WhiteJohn LeguizamoMartin SheenAn elite mercenary is killed, but comes back from Hell as a reluctant soldier of the Devil.I love the smell of burning asphalt in the morning
To be honest, this movie is a crap, but it has its charms. Spawn has a good make-up and following effects, and the music is quite good. It could be a guilty pleasure if you have surplus time on your hands.
6/10 - DirectorVincenzo NataliStarsNicole de BoerMaurice Dean WintDavid HewlettA group of strangers awaken to find themselves placed in a giant cube. Each one of them is gifted with a special skill and they must work together to escape an endless maze of deadly traps.Disappointment
The amazing original idea which could have been used for making cult classic for all times. The idea that deserves 10/10 is by terrible realization degraded to average trash. Acting is mediocre and sociologically and psychologically movie is a complete failure. Characters are so two-dimensional that viewers cannot relate to them, therefore there's no fear, no tension, no emotions, nothing... There is a single scene that kept me on the edge of my chair, while everything else was just sad cliché. And, of course, the ending is lousy in every way.
There's not much sense in making a quality remake, because originality is the main charm of this story, and this movie completely wasted that awesome idea. When the movie ended I felt sad and angry at the same time. The idea deserves 10/10, the realization is maybe 4/10, so we have a weak 7 movie out of what should have been 11/10 masterpiece...
7/10 - DirectorScott SpiegelStarsRobert PatrickBo HopkinsDuane WhitakerFive career criminals gather in Mexico to pull off a bank heist. They soon realize that they are up against far more frightening creatures than the police pursuing them.Terrible piece of shit
It is difficult to describe in words how shitty this movie is. It's not a horror, it's not a thriller, there's no humor, actors are lame, directing too… Pure action and extremely bad one too. It's hard to believe that Tarantino and Rodriguez approved this, let alone signed it... but they did.
3/10 - DirectorRupert WainwrightStarsPatricia ArquetteGabriel ByrneJonathan PryceWhen a young woman becomes afflicted by stigmata, a priest is sent to investigate her case, which may have severe ramifications for his faith and for the Catholic Church itself."The kingdom of God is within you and all around you. It is not within buildings of wood or stone. Split a piece of wood and you will find me. Look beneath a stone and I am there."
"Stigmata" deals with religious themes of stigmata and the "Gospel of Thomas," the oldest known gospel, which is considered to be the closest to the teachings of the historical Jesus. It is not included in the "New Testament", and the church considers it to be heretical. Although the film makes some historical and factual mistakes, it is not a documentary but fiction, so we can regard them as artistic freedoms, which, even if they do not contribute to the quality of the film, certainly do not diminish its strength. Patricia Arquette excellently portrays the role of a young atheist whose life is headed upside down by the inexplicable appearance of wounds similar to crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ, and Gabriel Byrne plays a priest sent from the Vatican to investigate her case. The chemistry between them is good and is the backbone of the film, and the powerful explicit scenes of stigmata appearance spice it up with horror atmosphere, although I would describe this movie as a drama rather than a horror.
7,5/10 - DirectorP.J. PesceStarsMarco LeonardiMichael ParksAra CeliSet 100 years ago in Mexico, this horror/western is the story of the birth of the vampire princess Santanico Pandemonium."You have no idea what you have unleashed"
After the second part, I was at the edge of giving up on the third one. But this one actually is not bad at all. It is a prequel to the original movie, it takes place about hundred years before and tells a story about the origins of Santanico Pandemonium. It is far from the complexity and quality of the first film, but at least it is obvious that Rodriguez was directly involved in making it. While he is just executive producer of the second movie, here he is also the screenwriter and, by default, it makes the movie worth watching.
6/10 - DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsKurt RussellWilford BrimleyKeith DavidA research team in Antarctica is hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims. One of the most overrated movies ever
It is considered to be one of the best horrors of the '80s and maybe even one of the best horrors overall?! If that's true I do not want to see the rest of them. I cannot say it is complete crap, but it definitely is waste of time. Extremely overrated nonsense with no purpose. The basic idea is good, but it's not developed nearly enough. Characters are two-dimensional and stereotypical. The movie has no depth, does not provoke thoughts, cannot be more linear than it is, does not arouse any emotions, there's no tension, and finally, it is not even scary at all. There are movies that are very stupid, but make you crap your pants in fear. Stupid but with purpose. This one is not even that. It is as if people who were accustomed to make only low-class action movies their whole lives suddenly decided to shoot the horror. Linear, shallow and boring.
4/10 - DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsMarisa ParedesEduardo NoriegaFederico LuppiAfter Carlos - a 12-year-old whose father has died in the Spanish Civil War - arrives at an ominous boys' orphanage, he discovers the school is haunted and has many dark secrets which he must uncover. Not as good as Pan's Labyrinth, but definitely worth watching.

Out of 11 victims, police attributed 5 to the same offender, that became known as "Leather Apron". Later he became famous world wide as Jack the Ripper. Police had over 300 suspects, but at the end they could not prove anything. Different theories were arriving from all sides for decade and even nowadays some new appears occasionally. 7/10 - DirectorJean EpsteinStarsJean DebucourtMarguerite GanceCharles LamyAllan visits the sinister Usher family mansion, where his friend Roderick is painting a portrait of his sickly wife Madeline. The portrait seems to be draining the life out of Madeline, slowly leading to her death.Perfect nightmare
This movie is completely different than anything I've ever seen. The plot is pretty much vague and deviates from the original story by Edgar Allan Poe. It is horrifying slow and story itself is inessential for the film, it is just a background for an artistic cinematography. Jean Debucourt is excellent in the leading role while all other characters are dim and unreal, like they are just parts of his dream. I did not like the music background in this movie at all. In my opinion, it does not contribute to the movie, but rather spoils it. But, the gloomy and eerie atmosphere of this masterpiece can not be spoiled. This movie absolutely deserves honorary Best Cinematography Oscar, because the way it is filmed is ingeniously hypnotizing and scenes that flow before your eyes will mesmerize you into a perfect nightmare. Visually speaking, this is one of the very best movies I have ever seen, and not only in the context of the black and white era, but in the whole history of cinematography.
8/10 for the movie as a whole, but 10/10 for cinematography - DirectorAndrew DouglasStarsRyan ReynoldsMelissa GeorgeJimmy BennettNewlyweds are terrorized by demonic forces after moving into a large house that was the site of a grisly mass murder a year before."Houses don't kill people. People kill people."
The film debut of the then eight-year-old Chloë Grace Moretz is a remake of the 1979 film of the same name. This is an average "haunted house" horror, based on true events. Decently done and moderately entertaining, it stands out only with the performance of little Chloë, and especially the scene on the roof, which is the only thing that remains etched in my memory even after five years.
6/10 - CreatorEric KripkeStarsJared PadaleckiJensen AcklesJim BeaverTwo brothers follow their father's footsteps as hunters, fighting evil supernatural beings of many kinds, including monsters, demons, and gods that roam the earth. The very best show in supernatural genre.
- DirectorMichael HurstStarsChristine TaylorShane BrollyJerry O'ConnellA schoolteacher with a phobia of hospitals finds herself searching for her boyfriend inside one while teaming up with a man suffering the same ordeal that she's in.For Chloë fans only
"Room 6" is a film that tries to be a mindfak horror, but fails in almost all fields. The idea is interesting, but so confusingly elaborated that instead of keeping you on the edge of a chair, it will keep you on the edge of boredom. The acting is not good enough to connect us with the characters, the dialogues are poorly written, and the overall atmosphere leaves the impression of an amateur film. Only the scenes with Chloë Grace Moretz have some strength, but no matter how good she is and how much I like her, she can't save a failed movie on her own with just a supporting role. I don't regret spending my time, but I advise you to skip it unless you're a big fan.
4/10 - DirectorJ.S. CardoneStarsLori HeuringScout Taylor-ComptonChloë Grace MoretzKaren, Sarah, and Emma Tunney are all moving to a small town in Pennsylvania where, unknown to them, in 1913, a horrid mine accident trapped dozens of children alive, underground. But there's a problem. They're still alive.Mediocre horror cliche
At the beginning of the twentieth century, the cruel mine owner exploits children, who remain buried underground due to the explosion. Almost a century later, the family moves into a house near the mine and the little daughter starts talking about a new friend. Mother thinks that she has an imaginary friend, but imaginary friends don't eat kids alive...
I watched the film because of then nine-year-old Chloë Grace Moretz, who is the only thing that is really worthwhile in this film. In several scenes, she is really fantastic. As for the rest, I have no major objections, but the film is drowning in mediocrity and does not stand out in any way. A decent horror movie to kill time and nothing more than that.

A hundred years ago, the town preacher nailed people to crosses, sacrificing them as living scarecrowsUnoriginal horror mediocrity
A mediocre "remote religious community with a retarded cult" horror, in the "Children of Corn" manner. I watched it because of Chloë Grace Moretz and Jaimie Alexander, it wasn't boring, but soon I won't have any idea that I watched it, let alone what it was about. Within the genre, it can pass with the weaker

I'm searching online for last hour and I find only negative reviews. I gave fair chance to negative argumentation and I absolutely disagree with all those reviews that underrate this movie. I saw it on the big screen when it was released and I left theater under strong impressions. 15 years later after watching it again on my computer I still have the same opinion. This is a great movie. Of course, it is not a masterpiece of cinematography, but which slasher horror is... This movie is important as first real Serbian horror. Many domestic movies have horror elements, but this is first completely horror movie. And within slasher horror genre it is excellent. Good story, strong acting, original ambient, and the overall atmosphere is perfect for this kind of film. To this day no movies came even close to this one, except maybe "A Serbian Film" (2010).

- DirectorTomas AlfredsonStarsKåre HedebrantLina LeanderssonPer RagnarOskar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl.I prefer the remake
Finally, I watched the Swedish version and I have to say that I prefer the American remake. This one is maybe a bit more realistic and more complete in some aspects, but I could not connect with characters on a deeper level, while remake blew me away emotionally. The movie is pretty good but I definitely wouldn't watch it again, while remake entered my list of favorite movies of all time after first watching. However, I recommend both, because although it is basically the same story, movies are very different.

It says "horror, mystery, drama", but it would be an insult for horror and mystery genres. Drama... yes, it is, and an extremely sick one too. Subjective impression - movie crew should be hospitalized in a mental institution (starting with the writer and director) together with those who honestly and deeply enjoyed watching it. It would be 1/10, but the leading actress is good and the end has a trace of sense and brains.
3/10 - DirectorFrank HenenlotterStarsKevin VanHentenryckJudy GrafeAnnie RossDuane and his basket-bound mutant brother are taken in by a secret home for wayward freaks with journalists hot on their tail. What is seen cannot be unseen
To me, this one is slightly better than the first one, but also completely unneeded. I don't see a reason to make sequels to "Basket Case" and, more than that, I don't understand why the hell I decided to watch it. This movie contains a sex scene you won't be able to forget. What is seen cannot be unseen, so think twice before you risk having flashbacks of "Basket Case" ruining your sex life. Although, I must admit, it possesses a certain amount of morbid romance.
4,5/10 - DirectorLars von TrierStarsWillem DafoeCharlotte GainsbourgStorm Acheche SahlstrømA grieving couple retreat to their cabin in the woods, hoping to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage, but nature takes its course and things go from bad to worse.Self-absorbed boring nothingness aka Tarkovsky is turning in his grave
Even before this film, I knew that Lars von Trier is a weirdo, and yet I was surprised how far he is willing to go in combining sick and boring. Quality acting and directing are worthless when the movie is just plain self-indulgence of a pretentious narcissus. It was a gruesome effort to watch this insane and insulting idiocy to the end, and, after I already spent two hours on it, I refuse to spend two more on bashing it. Especially when someone has already done it in a very impressive way. Just read the review of Luket or some of the others who rated it one or two out of ten.
2/10
"It is with some regret that I have decided to spend time reviewing Von Trier's 'Antichrist'. I am, by nature a curious film watcher, and will, at times, succumb to temptation and reserve a couple of hours to cast my own opinion, when a film creates ample controversy. Thus far my curiosity, across the spectrum has been met with, elation and disappointment in equal measure.
This is, and I make no apologies for this statement, a truly terrible film. I was hoping to read the user comments and be satisfied that it was met with the utter indifference and loathing that followed my own viewing and was genuinely shocked with the ridiculous ratings that have been pulled from the posteriors of those who mistakenly interpreted this dull and pointless movie as high art.
Given that the acting was by no means sub-par (Dafoe was very good as a husband/psychiatrist torn between his professional disposition and the demons of his relationship with his wife; and Gainsbourg was nothing if not committed to the role of a postnatally depressed lunatic) and the cinematography was at times excellent, it should give you some idea of how bad this movie was.
One review entitled 'Canonical Sermon, Classical Hero Journey, Numeric Elegance and Name of The Beast' offered an academic dissection of the movie...referencing the film's numerical balance and some other contextual information that completely fails to justify the relevance and poor execution of this movie, which in principle, before pen hit paper, may have carried some merit and proved to be a dark and disturbing study of the human/inhuman condition.
So, let me 'break it down' without offering insight where there is none or jumping on board the 'Turner Prize' high-art mindset that has corrupted modern art finding thought and intellect in the explicit and mundane.
Firstly: This is NOT a balanced movie, no matter how Von Trier cuts the film into chapters. A nice prologue, followed by over an hour of self-absorbed boring nothingness (aside from the revelation of child cruelty), climaxing in a violent last 10 minutes that arrived way too late for me to care about the resolution. Simply put, it is quite an achievement to bore someone to the point that genital mutilation, the ejaculation of blood the image of a wife fingering a freshly drilled hole in her husband's leg does not leave them shocked or a little sick; and yet I was so paralyzed by boredom that I was rendered immune to the horrors depicted on the television in front of me.
It is all very well dissecting this movie for its symbolism and I am sure that for an academic essay it provides the necessary 'meat' for some critical analysis, but seriously, why to bother when as a film, as a piece of entertainment, this movie fails at its most basic level.
I have watched interviews with the cast, who really don't seem to understand the movie and listened to drivel about how this was a product of Lars' depression. The reality is that 'controversy' is the most marketable aspect of the film and one has to question the misogynistic stance/intentions of the movie. I am not a fan of feminism as it has moved beyond equality but it certainly wouldn't be too late to question Von Trier's relationship to the fairer sex, both in the context of this movie and his work as a whole.
Imbalanced and a cry for attention; a cheap snub of mainstream Hollywood that craves the attention Von Trier claims to shun; or a failed art-house movie that owes its substance and form to antiquated intellectual study that it fails to properly address and far superior 'cabin in the woods' movies that it does not get close to matching... Take your pick of which best describes this terrible film.
If you want cabin horror, watch 'Evil Dead'. if you like dark and harrowing try 'requiem for a dream'. There has been some talk as to the meaning of 'Antichrist' in the context of this movie. I can say with some certainty that it refers to the pure evil that stole 2 hours of my life last week. A mad scientist kidnaps three people and turns them into human centipede by sewing the mouths of the third and second person in a row to the anuses of the second and the first. I think that this description alone is enough for you to see how this thing is not worth your time. I honestly have no idea what made me watch it and, even worse, what madness came into me to make me watch both sequels after I already saw how disastrous this is. This is in every aspect, essential and technical, complete crap. On my scale, the 1/10 is a movie that I did not manage to see through, the 2/10 is a movie I finished with superhuman effort, so I will rate this crap
3/10

The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence) (2015)

This movie is terribly underrated. It is a common opinion that "Resurrection" buried "Alien" franchise, but I really cannot see any reasons for it. The movie has a different approach than its prequels, but in 20 years movie industry changed so much and it would be sad if it was the same. Honestly, although I think it is slightly worse than two previous sequels, I still prefer it to the original "Alien".

If you like "woods horror" with bunch of people stuck in the cabin in the woods, acting dumb and being killed one by one, you will love the twist in this one. It is not a parody you may expect, it is a "woods horror" turned upside down and it's hilariously awesome.

I have no idea how to describe this madness except by MUST WATCH !!! It is a parody of horrors, with caricatured characters and sick dialogues, but with a plot that keeps you watching more and more. I would not expect anything less of "American Horror Story" makers. This is one of the most entertaining things I ever saw. I refrain from giving it 10/10 because it still cannot go in the same rating with masterpieces like "How to Get Away With Murder" or "Californication".

I just finished the second season and I deeply wish that this show never ended. It's damn super-fun. Parody to horror stereotypes with references to a bunch of cult movies and shows and everything packed so stupidly exaggerated that it must be work of genius. The characters are great, the cast even better, and Jamie Lee Curtis is simply perfect. You'll attach to these irritating characters in no time and you'll enjoy loving and hating them at the same time. Warm recommendation.

At first, I was rejected and disgusted, but then I decided to give it another chance without prejudice.
Technically speaking, the movie is very well done, far better than almost every other Serbian movie I ever saw, and as I am Serb I saw quite a few. Story... OK, it's morbid, sick, disturbed, even insane, but the warning is clearly stated: drama/horror/mystery, so those who do not like horrors are warned and should skip it. Nobody forces them to watch. However disturbing it may be, in its own genre it is not so shocking, no more than "Hostel" or "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" for example. It has an easy introduction, a good plot, few nice twists, and an ending typical for its genre. The quality screenplay, pretty good acting and, for Serbia, fantastic production. Within the genre, it's surely the very best Serbian movie.
The main issue with this movie, the thing that makes it controversial and repulsive for a domestic audience and even lovers of the genre, is its name. "Hostel" was not named "Czech Movie", it was named "Hostel". This country, if we had a real one thou, should have censored this title and force authors to change its name before releasing the movie. They had no right to represent our country this way. There's enough prejudice against Serbia and other Balkan countries already, we do not need more negative representations. After all, it is just a movie and it should be observed like fiction that it is, but under a different name, more fitting to the horror genre, it would be much better accepted.

Drama/Fantasy/Horror ?! Drama... let's say it is drama. Fantasy... only if we put everything that is not historical into this category. Horror... not even close.
"Pit and the Pendulum" is THRILLER, set in XVI century Spain. It's adaptation of Edgar Alan Poe's short story of the same title with some additions from other stories. I have no objections, but it's really nothing special. OK for one watching.

If you are a fan of art drama or you simply don't like the horror genre, I can understand if you hated this. But for every true fan of horror, with at least a basic knowledge of at least cult horrors through the history of the genre, this should be a real joy. "The Cabin in the Woods" is a weird movie that can not be precisely genre determined. It gathers horror ideas seen countless times and turns them upside-down. Nothing in this movie is new, but the greatest thing about it is its ability to make something very original using totally outworn horror cliches. This is a parody and homage at the same time. It is a funny-scary movie with great visuals and even better dialogues and one-liners, and its pace and twists (even the predictable ones) will not let you get bored even for a minute. And the final revelation is at the same time one of the most ridiculous and one of the most awesome things I have ever seen on the big screen. It is not a masterpiece, but it is a real gem and I loved it.

The film is based on the series of the same name from the 1960s, replacing the more serious and darker tone of the original with typically Barton's humor and fairy-tale atmosphere. Vampires, werewolves, witches, and ghosts are never outdated, especially not when played by Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, and Chloë Grace Moretz, with cameo appearances by Christopher Lee and Alice Cooper.

While doing these procedures, she gradually alienates herself from her "normal" life and delves deeper into the morbid world of body modification.
This Canadian indie horror was written and directed by Soska twins, who also appear in the movie. In a sea of bloody ridiculousness that prevails in the world of horror, this is a real refreshment that rightly can be considered a horror. In style and atmosphere, it is somewhat reminiscent of Barker, and as a dedication to this giant of the genre, one of the characters bears his last name.

I was listening about this movie for years and I had no intention to watch some low budget retarded crap. And then I realized it has 3 more sequels. Wait a minute, if it is failure why would they shoot 3 more. It had to make some serious money if they continued to make sequels. OK, let's give it a chance. And wow, what a movie!!! I hate shark movies, even the famous "Jaws" was retarded for me. But this... this is awesome! I wouldn't say it was a horror, more of a bloody action drama, but it really keeps your attention and occasionally your ass at the edge of the seat. I am thrilled. Definitely my favorite shark movie and favorite horror action. Highly recommended.

It starts as a crime/comedy, but soon it turns into a horror-comedy. Villains in this movie are witches, so the director decided to start with opening credits made of pictures of famous "witches", putting together notorious killers and evil women from modern politics. Very brave and politically incorrect, he bought me already. The movie is fast, the story is original, humor is indeed funny, the effects are good, very much fun until the end. The big ending is a bit of failure, but the movie is overall good enough not to be spoiled by it.

"Carrie" from 1976 has cult status, maybe because it was a new thing at the time and a huge name like King was put on the big screen by famous De Palma... This one remains under the radar. Not so popular, low ratings on movie sites... It is a remake of the previous one, almost from scene to scene. So, it is not a new adaptation of the same book, but the new movie made using the exact same script used for the original. And I never heard of this director while De Palma is De Palma. Still, for me, a remake, even though there is no H from horror, is quite better. Although I may be biased because of Chloë Grace Moretz.

Jarmusch, inviolable master of slow psychedelic movies. If you do not like slow movies do not even try to watch this, because there's virtually no plot at all. The movie is based on the characterization of the protagonists, building of heavy atmosphere and it is visually fantastic. Although it technically falls within the vampire/fantasy genre, the movie does not have any of its characteristics. Tilda and Tom for two hours became an old married couple of vampires that will make you forget that vampires are just the fruit of the imagination and experience this movie as exceptionally realistic drama. Of course, Jarmusch wouldn't be Jarmusch if great psychedelic music didn't follow the whole story.

Original movie was one of those that are so unrealistic and exaggerated that their stupidity borders with ingenuity. Then in the second movie they went one step further and I thought that even one more step in that direction would result with unwatchable crap. And then I started this one and it seemed that I was right. After about 20 minutes I decided to give it up and even delete 4th one too without even checking it out. And just when I was about to move my lazy ass towards keyboard they went one more step further with unreality and exaggeration and I had to halt for a second. And then they went one more step and then one more... and when I thought that this movie can not be more unreal and hyperbolical they made a jump further and continued with action that was faster and more unreal every minute and I was completely stunned with my jaw on the floor. Along the way, they inserted occasional emotional scenes into action, scenes that ascend mockery with Hollywood pathetics to the level of art. From scene to scene movie speeds up and every scene is more bizarre until mindblowing finale. And when you think that's it you realize there's just a bit more.
Sharknado 3 ascend its genre to epic proportions and I barely refrained from giving it 10/10. IMDb rating almost kept me away from this jewel. That would be a big mistake. The first hour is a mystery drama with SF premise, and then in the last twenty minutes it grows into good horror. In my opinion, few scenes with lousy effects should have been skipped and without them movie would be more convincing, but even this way this is the best Lovecraft adaptation I saw so far and one of the best movies in its class, primarily because of excellent atmosphere it builds and succeeds to maintain on the level till the very end. "Stephen King is often cited to be the father of modern horror, and this view isn't wholly unfounded. King's stories have had a large impact upon the horror genre, and many of them are very good stories in their own right also. However, when it comes to translating King's words onto the screen; many filmmakers have proved that they are not up to the task. I haven't read the book, 'Children of the Corn', but I'm sure it's better than this movie. While the film isn't especially bad; it's hardly a tour de-force of horror cinema either, and like many Stephen King films; this one could have been a hell of a lot better. Actually, this story isn't one of King's better efforts; it follows a small town whose children murder their parents on the instructions of a mysterious preacher; a little kid calling himself Isaac. The story picks up three years after this terrible event when a young couple drive into town for some reason. They find the village completely devoid of adults and it isn't long until they discover what's happened and seek to put an end to it!
This film has missed several opportunities, the most glaring of which is the subterranean manifestation that dwells beneath the soil in the cornfields. We get several glimpses of this creature, but we never get to see it properly; and because of this, the monster is about as threatening as a bunch of little kids. Oh wait. Anyway, the film draws parallels with other evil kids films such as Village of the Damned in the way it plays out, but it never really gets out of first gear. While the atmosphere of the town is foreboding and well done on the whole, the plotting isn't very exciting and there's very few moments of real tension or suspense, which ensures the film isn't as engaging as it could have been. The cornfields and the corn that inhabits said field's makes for an unlikely horror prop, and some scenes within the fields are genuinely creepy. The kids themselves are rather well done also, with both of the main ones having good screen presence. If you were to pigeonhole King's films into 'good' and 'bad', this one would firmly be in the latter side. On it's own, however, it's not all that bad, and if you're a fan of King's work, you'll no doubt find something to like here. Or you might hate it for not living up to the book, one of the two." - The_Void - DirectorLew LandersStarsBela LugosiFrieda InescortNina FochWhen an errant bomb unearths the coffin of a vampire during the London Blitz, a gravedigger unknowingly reanimates the monster by removing the stake from his heartTrue masterpiece

Kind of nonsense that's rarely seen. Acting, directing, camera and other technicalities, all are on the level we are expecting from this kind of movies. Really decent, I can not complain. But the screenplay is unbelievably bad. They crammed a bunch of monsters and forced them together in the same story. They did not stick to original legends, they did not attach to previous movies, they did not even think of some new original plot. They simply threw in a bunch of cliché horror patterns into a rush overladen story, that is not either original, or tense or fun at all. There's neither good plot nor denouement. It simply starts, lasts some time and ends without any logical sense. It's like they cut off random parts of previous monster movies and then shuffled them and glue them together. What author did here is not writing, it's recycling, and amateurish and lousy done. The movie is not unwatchable, but it is a complete waste of time.

If I start writing all that's wrong with this movie, it would be faster for you to watch the movie and make your own conclusions than to read my review. So, I'll just make a few notes about what's good in it:- The movie is based on H.P. "I'm really confused by other users' comments. After reading them I ordered a copy from the states as fast as my fingers could click to Amazon. I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft and to be told that this is the best film adaption of his work and that I'd never even heard of it made me think I was about to get my slime-covered tentacles on a forgotten gem. Then it arrived and I must ask the other users, are you all completely bonkers? This is a terrible, terrible film. It's badly lit, shot, edited, acted and scripted. When the femme non-fatale first arrives at the PI's office it's this dreadful side shot which just sits there for about five minutes while the two of them fail to act in each other's general direction from the opposite sides of the screen. The rest of the film seems to consist of either seen it all before POV's or more of these overly lit side shots, I thought Dan O'Bannon could shoot films? Thank god the flashbacks break up the boredom. In a voice-over, Ward's wife says something like "He just left the party and said he had to do some work that couldn't wait", at which point Ward in the flashback says "I have to leave the party to do some work that cannot wait." Brilliant! It goes on like that for an hour and forty tedious minutes with a couple of goofy and gooey effects don't liven up the proceedings one bit, until it ends with Chris Sarandon hamming it up for all he's worthwhile I considered hanging myself from the tedium of it all. Sure, essence of the story and some basic points of the plot are more or less the same, but screenplay is very different, more complex and much better. There's less monologue and more dialogue, and good ones too, and visually this movie is more convincing than Corman's version. Still, although this movie id in every aspect better than its predecessor, it lacks impressibility Corman achieved by skillful use of vibrant colours, and of course, legendary Vincent Price. To be fair, Adrian Paul nailed role of Prospero, but Price has that something, that "X factor", that makes all of his appearances, even in bad movies, unforgettable. And it does not matter that Paul may be better Prospero than Price, he simply is not Price. Price is Price and, once you see him in any role, no one will ever be able to fill his shoes in remakes to come.

They are built on the same base, but the construction is completely different. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but in this case it is. Ideas that changed Poe's story are not that bad, but the realization is lousy. The complete scenery screams FAKE, the story is inconsistent, acting mediocre, directing like in porn, and ending knocks the final nail in the coffin. If we simply cut the last scene and end movie with the one before, without any changes, we'll get an average '80s B horror ending. Why did they feel the need to additionally annoy viewers, already annoyed by wasting an hour and a half on a crappy movie, by adding terribly stupid, inconsistent, illogical and most of all redundant nonsense to the movie that already had a decent ending in the previous scene... I have a feeling that team, who spent their lives making porn exclusively, suddenly decided to make Poe adaptation. If that's true, good job guys, but if it's not the case, then please, change profession, or at least keep your hands off of classics.

There are some Dracula movies that present original stories and even if they have no other qualities they are at least entertaining. Unfortunately, most of Dracula movies are basically the same story with variations in details, and this one is one of that majority. There are no major flaws, but it just rehashes same old story in same old way and that makes it redundant. If you never saw original Dracula or any other old Dracula movie you may find this interesting, but if you saw at least few of its predecessors this movie will be complete waste of time.

This is peak of low budget horror drama. Most sincere recommendation.

"It's no Salem's Lot, but not as bad as others might have you believe either. Michael Moriarity returns from South America to get his mal-adjusted son and brings him to a house he inherited in Maine in the cozy little town of Salem's Lot. This film has no bearing on the original source, nor is it a similar film in any way. Larry Cohen directs and creates his vision. He shows us a town where vampirism is an accepted and seemingly normal lifestyle. The story has plenty of flaws, and sure does ask you to do a lot of suspending belief, but it has at its core a pretty interesting story of a father and a son bonding amidst their own weaknesses and a horde of vampires. Moriarity is good and some of the character actors are in fine form, especially Samuel Fuller barking out one-liners and Andrew Duggan (his last film) as the head vampire with New England grace and charm. Some exceptionally weak areas are special effects. The evil vampire face is absurd-looking, like a mask from a shop! And as their goal is exactly to scare the audience, authors most often neglect other aspects of the movie. This movie does not deserve rating I gave it. Although it is considered to be Lovecraft adaptation, most certainly it is not. It could maybe be loosely inspired by him. Story isn't original or too complex, it's linear and, with exception of monster's mask and acting, this movie doesn't have much to offer. But it has what is the most important for horror movie and what most of much higher rated horrors don't have - eerie and tense atmosphere. Horror movies are to me mostly either stupid and ridiculous or stupid and plain boring, but this one made me nervously jig on the edge of the chair. It may be mediocre or even bad in other aspects, but it achieves effect that is essence of the genre, and if only because of that I have to rate it above average.

Also it has serious lack of suspension and horror atmosphere. Though, if I didn't see all Dracula movies to date, this one would probably leave better impression, because it brings some completely new moments. At one hand, coachman leaving passengers in the middle of nowhere because he's afraid to go near the castle during the night is scene everyone know by heart, at the other hand, passengers that steal a coach to continue their journey, and then realize they can not control horses that run straight to the castle is pretty much original approach. Scenes in tavern, table made for them when they arrive in castle, their luggage waiting in made rooms, scenes with Dracula and his helpers, cliches ragged long time ago. And then great scene of chase and completely original and unexpected way to defeat Prince of Darkness. If this was TV show with weekly episodes that might even work, cause we would be caught by first episode and just go with the flow in crazy ride until it ends, without having too much time to analyze flaws. But stretched to decade every movie stands for itself, and not being under influence of brilliant Saw I and II since long time ago our eyes are open to see the rest of franchise for what it really is - lousy and boring attempt to keep comatose idea alive for as long as possible, or more precisely, for as long as audience is stupid enough to pay for it in hope it will revitalize to what it once was.

After Saw III and IV I thought that this franchise definitely gone astray and lost all sense, but fifth installment brought back the will to see it through. To what extent is this adaptation faithful to original story I can not say with much certainty because I read Books of Blood last time 17 years ago, but this movie inspired me to read them again as soon as possible. Considering fact that Barker personally adapted story for screen I believe that faithfulness is not too questionable. Story is great and it will be obvious to everyone who ever read any Barker's work that he is behind this plot, even if they did not read this particular story. Acting, directing and effects are decent and atmosphere is right. But Rawhead himself is complete failure. Monster is so unconvincing that he nullifies all horror effects other elements of the movie achieved. They should have used good old tricks to avoid showing it directly. They could have show it in dark, just glimpse of it, or its shadow, or even shoot its scenes through its eyes. If my memory serves me right, in original story that's exactly the way it's done and story is written from monster's point of view. This way they would amplify horror and avoid spoiling everything with stupid and unconvincing monster mask. Overall, this is must watch for fans of Barker and 80's B production, but the rest of you should skip it.

SPOILER ALERT- Main characters became rich selling security systems, which means they benefited of Purge and it suits them. But if they already have all that money, why the hell they do not go abroad on vacation in that time of year and avoid any risk?! They could even emigrate to wherever they wish once they have enough money. But no, they stay in America to risk their lives every year.
- Five people, however clumsy they may be, in their own home, could easily ambush dozen invaders, who enter unknown territory, without too much risk for themselves. But instead they first reduce their numbers by sending two teenagers in the basement and leaving homeless man strapped to chair. Probably because two have better odds than five... Ok, I can understand leaving children out of trouble, but damn, homeless guy is war veteran who is more skilled in combat then the rest of them together. So instead of fighter and two nerds they go with just two nerds. And after all those mistakes they do not ambush invaders but they start to walk around the house, not even protecting each others back, giving invaders opportunity to ambush them. No one with at least one brain cell would do something that stupid. Normal person would gather all five in one room with one door, arm themselves as much as possible, point all guns to that one way in, and shoot at everything that moves.

If you are really eager to read review, take a look at one written by rparham, cause that one really nailed it right:
"Stephen King and Hollywood has always had an unsteady relationship. For every good to decent film produced from the prolific horror-meister's works (Misery,Pet Semetary,Stand By Me) there have been several more middling to downright awful ones (Children of the Corn,The Lawnmower Man,The Dark Half). Graveyard Shift, a 1990 adaptation of King's same named short story, is absolutely in the latter category. Graveyard Shift is a complete waste of time and celluloid, devoid of any scares, laughs or any other redeeming quality. If you want a bottom of the barrel Stephen King film, look no further than this travesty.
Set in a cotton mill in what I guess is supposed to be Maine (one character references Castle Rock, King's well known fictional Maine town), Graveyard Shift begins with a character who likes to shoot rats with rocks being attacked by . . . something . . . and then dying in the cotton picker. Into town walks John Hall (Dave Andrews) a drifter looking for work, who lands a job at the mill, under the direction of the rather unkind, and potentially unhinged, foreman, Warwick (Stephen Macht). Warwick is a rather despicable character, using the female employees to fulfill his sexual needs while trying to cut a few bucks here and there in regards to worker safety. When he is ordered to clean up the basement or be shut down, he recruits several of the plant workers for the job, but they quickly realize that there is . . . something . . . down there in the basement with them.
Graveyard Shift is the kind of film that used to be cranked out in the 1970s and 80s by major studios, I suspect, because they were cheap to make and even with a lower than average box office compared to major films, they still managed to turn a decent profit for the studio. Because it is almost certain no one was greenlighting Graveyard Shift because it promised to be a good movie. And a good movie is definitely not what director Ralph S. Singleton and screenwriter Jon Esposito have supplied. There is nothing of value in Graveyard Shift. The characters are almost exclusively ciphers, existing for no other reason than to be picked off one by one by the film's creature that lives in the mill. Main character John Hall has no development to speak of, and the attempt by the filmmakers to create a relationship between him and female worker Jane (Kelly Wolf) is dead on arrival. Neither character is interesting, or heck, even really present, other than to serve as something for the camera to be focused on most of the time.
Stephen Macht provides a seemingly hissable villain in the form of Warwick, but he is almost completely a caricature, a creation of the screenplay to give us someone to root against, not a three dimensional character. When he goes off his rocker towards the end of the film, it is completely out of left field, not something that has been building throughout the narrative. The only character who is even vaguely interesting is the exterminator called in to deal with the rat problem at the mill, played by Brad Dourif. His exterminator holds a personal vendetta against rats due to their use in torture when he was in Vietnam (and I wonder if some material intended for his character was transplanted to Warwick at some point in the re-write stage of development). But slightly interesting doesn't equal necessary, and Dourif's character is even given the weakest, most pointless send-off of any of the film's characters.
The makeup effects of the creature are acceptable, I guess, but we are never given much of a good look at it. But, for the most part, the film's gore quotient, one of the reasons people would show up to these films, is pretty limited. And there is certainly no tension, scares or suspense to speak of. Never once was I concerned for anyone on screen, and there is a jump scare or two, but nothing remarkable, and many of them are predictable.
Graveyard Shift was released in 1990, at the end of the horror film era of the previous two decades, before the genre would go into remission for a few years before being re-born with the self referential Scream series followed by Hollywood's brief dalliance with J-Horror. And frankly, if Graveyard Shift is representative of what the genre brought to the table, then it was deserving of being buried." - rparham - DirectorCharles BandStarsBarbara CramptonJeffrey CombsDavid WarnerIn this 'sequel' anthology, the film offers a TRANCERS sequel written by original creators Danny Bilson and Paul DeMeo, a new Lovecraft adaptation THE EVIL CLERGYMAN, featuring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, and finally a sequel to THE DUNGEONMASTER."Full Moon Features is uniformly crap these days. Films with bad actors, being murdered by lousy looking puppets, on cheap sets, with lousy make-up and digital effects. And it's not like the Full Moon "golden age" of the early 1990s produced masterpieces of cinema either. Stripped of nostalgia, even their most polished films are guilty pleasures at best. "Pulse Pounders" was an anthology film shot in 1988, during the waning days of Empire Pictures, when Charlie Band made genuinely good films. The story of how the film was lost until VHS work prints emerged earlier last year is well-known by now. Since Charlie is so bereft of quality productions these days, and wants to milk his fan base for all they're worth, instead of releasing "Pulse Pounders" as a whole, the individual segments have been given stand-alone releases, first "The Evil Clergyman," then "Trancers: City of Lost Angels" later this month, and finally "Dungeon Master II" sometime next year.
"The Evil Clergyman" is a sexed-up take on one of Lovecraft's lesser short stories. Taking place on one set with only a cast of five, a woman visits the home of her deceased lover, a clergyman who, as you may have guessed from the title, was of a less then virtuous nature. Over the twenty-seven minute runtime, she is accosted by the spirit of her dead lover, a spirit of his victim, and his human-faced rat familiar.
The movie invites open comparison to "Re-Animator," featuring Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton, and David Gale. In both films, Gale menaces Crampton while naked, her nude backside getting kissed by the man-faced rat. Charles Band isn't as strong a filmmaker as Stuart Gordon but does a good job here, making decent use of shadows and space. The cast truly shines. Combs is at his sexiest, seducing Crampton, while his malevolent intent is obvious beneath the surface. David Warner has a fantastic cameo as Combs' ghostly victim. The highlight of the film is a frenzied Warner monologue, making it clear to Crampton that her boyfriend isn't a good guy. While Crampton is the lead character, her performance is probably the weakest, with her mostly screaming in fear. Richard Band provides a beautiful longing, sensual, sinister score that feels like it stepped right out of the late eighties.
A simple story, "The Evil Clergyman" prances along at a fine pace, producing some okay atmosphere and even maybe a scare. The ending is delightfully perverse, the moment when you could most be tricked into thinking Stuart Gordon actually did direct this. The presentation is less then ideal, the picture grainy and dark, the dialogue sometimes hard to hear over the rest of the sound mix. This is sort of apropos though, considering so many Full Moon films were first watched as grainy VHS tapes. While ultimately a trifle, "The Evil Clergyman" should definitely be seeked out by fans of the studio, the cast, and the adapted author." - Bonehead-XL - DirectorClive BarkerStarsAndrew RobinsonClare HigginsAshley LaurenceA woman discovers the newly resurrected, partially formed, body of her brother-in-law and lover. She starts killing for him to revitalize his body and escape the demonic beings that are pursuing him after he escaped their underworld.Clive Barker is one of my favorite authors. Book of Blood, The Damnation Game, Weaveworld are books I'll always cherish, and Undying will forever be my dearest video game. Although in my opinion The Hellbound Heart is not even close to the best story he has written, adaptation of this book is move that made him famous and forever carved him in legend. In this movie story isn't questionable because Barker personally adapted his own novel into movie scenario and directed it. In technical terms, the film is pretty bad, but considering that it's Barker's movie debut done with really small budget result is surprisingly good. Barker and his friends improvised many things on their own in inability to pay professionals. In spite of all its flaws, Hellraiser became cult movie and opened the door to franchise that lasts to this day, 30 years later.
7/10 - DirectorRaul GarciaStarsChristopher LeeBela LugosiJulian SandsAn animated anthology of five tales adapted from Edgar Allan Poe's stories.Raul Garcia, writer, director and animator of animated movies, adapted five great stories of Edgar Allan Poe into five short animated movies, banded together by graveyard conversation between Poe (Stephen Hughes) in a form of raven and Death (Cornelia Funke). Each story uses different animation technique and Sergio de la Puente composed original music which fits perfectly with their mystical atmosphere. In first segment Christopher Lee tells famous "The Fall of the House of Usher", followed by strange but striking computer animation. Second part brings archive footage of legendary Bela Lugosi reading "The Tell-Tale Heart" with black and white animation that feels like negative. "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar", narrated by Julian Sands, is done in comic-book style. Guillermo del Toro presents an internal monologue of the prisoner in the Inquisition dungeon, from the story "The Pit and the Pendulum", with video game type of animation. The last story brings "The Masque of the Red Death" in the form of a moving aquarelle and without narration. And just for a brief moment Roger Corman gives voice to Prince Prospero. Considering that all together lasts just a little over one hour, stories are very reduced, so connoisseurs and fans of Edgar Allan Poe might resent them as butchered, while those ignorant of his work could have troubles understanding them, especially last two. But if you read these stories, or at least saw movie adaptations and roughly know what are they about, and if you are not nagger trying to find faults in everything, you'll enjoy magically gloomy and dreary atmosphere of this really extraordinary movie.
