Every other season is nearly perfect, in particular 3 and 5. The finale was also a perfect cap on an already fantastic run. The best characters are by far Ron, Chris, and Tom, as they throughout the series prove to be nice foils for each other. While some may say that Parks and Rec is an Office clone, I disagree: it's better. Excluding the first season, it's smarter, more sensible, and more coherent.

The second and third seasons raise the stakes a lot and flesh out the show quite a bit. If you don't like Aaron Sorkin's political stances, you won't like this. If you can tolerate it, however, you'll get a solid drama with a nice perspective and Jeff Daniels at the top of his game, which is truly incredible.

The show didn't really hit its stride until season 3 and really declined after season 6, with some brighter spots in season 9. But the one thing that made it better and easier to watch was its continuous overarching story of Ted meeting the mother. Now, the final season needed to be shorter or seriously reworked for it to be its best, but this is a better show than most give it credit for.

At worst (and most often), it's either an offensive playground for the incredibly irreverent Michael Scott or a sinking ship reeling from his character's departure. It does have one of the best final seasons and series finales I've ever seen though, so sticking with it is worth the payoff in the end. However, it can feel like a chore at times because of Michael's antics.
