- DirectorPaul McGuiganStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsSherlock must confiscate something of importance from a mysterious woman named Irene Adler.Stephen Moffat at his best: An intelligent, political story in which every aspect is relevant in some way or another, filled with amazing "moments." Bautifully written, stunning performance from Lara Pulver as Irene Adler, and a brilliany new theme - "Sherlocked" - from David Arnold. The ending is perfect; This is by far the pinnacle of Sherlock; funny, sexy, charming, chilling, emotional and compelling.
- DirectorPaul McGuiganStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanRupert GravesWar vet Dr. John Watson returns to London in need of a place to stay. He meets Sherlock Holmes, a consulting detective, and the two soon find themselves digging into a string of serial "suicides."The other Stephen Moffat episode - he's by far the best writer for the show. Classic introductions, some clever and witty dialogue, and a strong nemesis. Great ending, too.
- DirectorToby HaynesStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsJim Moriarty hatches a mad scheme to turn the whole city against Sherlock.Absolutely nicked off "The Dark Knight", even down to entire lines of dialogue being paraphrased, as well as an identical plot. To be fair, though, if you have to copy something, copy from the best. Only problem is, Andrew Scott is abominably bad, and camper than ever this time. He's not exactly Heath Ledger, is he? But, a story this dramatic and important can transcend a rubbish actor in the third main role, and there are some great moments - as well as that cheeky cameo from Douglas Wilmer. Parts of this are really terrible, and parts of it are worthy of Stephen Moffat himslef. Ultimately enjoyable, but not witohut its' flaws. And please...let Moriarty really be dead...
- DirectorEuros LynStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsMysterious symbols and murders are showing up all over London, leading Sherlock and John to a secret Chinese crime syndicate called Black Lotus.A good all-round adventure episode, a little heavy on the humour. Cumberbatch is slighly off the boil in this, but there are some highlights, and good performances all round. An interesting concept, which wavers a little. Enjoyable, but not a classic.
- DirectorPaul McGuiganStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsSherlock and John investigate the ghosts of a young man who has been seeing monstrous hounds out in the woods where his father died. Not bad; some interesting ideas, but let down by Henry Knight. Nice to get out of London for a bit, but some of the story elements get too far out of the safety zone, and Mark Gatiss has the poorest sense of humour of all the writers. He also has the poorest grasp of the Sherlock character, and has him acting far too abrasively. After the previous episode, this is rather disappointing, but reasonable.
- DirectorNick HurranStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsSherlock goes up against Charles Augustus Magnussen, media tycoon and a notorious blackmailer.Steven Moffat's worst episode, but still promising in places, with a good performance from Lars Mikkelson, even if he is overwritten. Yet, it still carries with it that season 3 malaise, that slight smug, self-assurance, and it overplays its' dramatic moments, assuming we care as much as we did back in the first two seasons. Easily the best of the third series, though, even if the ending is...well, rubbish.
- DirectorJeremy LoveringStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsMycroft calls Sherlock back to London to investigate an underground terrorist organization.Sherlock is back...but sadly let down by the fact that all the dramatic highs are smothered in perhaps the lowest and least succesful comedy in the entire show. Cumberbatch is still poncing around, but with little of his charm, and the storyline is a confusion of nonsense. Lacking in clarity, perhaps the only episode not to have a clear storyline, this was the one we waited for for so long, and got so little. Only Freeman and some music save this episode, and a few decent sequences taken out of context.
- DirectorPaul McGuiganStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanRupert GravesMycroft needs Sherlock's help, but a remorseless criminal mastermind puts Sherlock on a distracting crime-solving spree via a series of hostage human bombs through which he speaks. The nadir of the show; A series of rather unrelated incidents, culminating in Andrew Scott's pathetic Moriarty, with his pantomime, I wish I was the Joker delivery, and camping about. Of everyone on TV, they had to pick this guy. Disappointing.
- DirectorColm McCarthyStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsSherlock tries to give the perfect best man speech at John's wedding when he suddenly realizes a murder is about to take place. Two words: Arsing about
