My top 10 of 2011
Mind that I have not watched all of the 2011 movies, including a lot of good ones. Therefore, this list can change. These movies are my personal fun times even though they might not be considered award nominees material.

- DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer LawrenceIn the 1960s, superpowered humans Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr work together to find others like them, but Erik's vengeful pursuit of an ambitious mutant who ruined his life causes a schism to divide them. This is by far my favorite X-Men movie out of the the 4. The tone was fitting and it felt real. It's rare that you come across a superhero movie that has a serious tone like this one ; aside from the new Batman movies from Christopher Nolan. Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy gave astounding performances and their bromance chemistry was very evident on-screen.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsJeremy IrvineEmily WatsonDavid ThewlisA young farm boy enlists to serve in World War I after his beloved horse is sold to the cavalry. His hopeful journey takes him out of England and onto the front lines as the war rages on.War Horse is tremendously heart-warming and I did not expect to be an emotional wreck. It's so rare that I cry during movies. A lot of times, I can force my tears down, however this time, they just flowed like crazy. I couldn't hold back any longer when the credits were rolling.
The cinematography and soundtrack were phenomenal. The relationship between Joey and Albert was what really hit me personally. The bond b/w them is inexplicable, yet I'm sure many of us felt it (surely, I did). I've always had a soft spot for human-animal relationships, though, I would have never thought of this movie to touch me this much.
It is a slow movie to some people, but I thought the pacing was fine and it surely picked up near the end. The war sequences were also nicely done.
The storyline was carefully/beautifully woven together at the end. - DirectorGavin O'ConnorStarsTom HardyNick NolteJoel EdgertonThe youngest son of an alcoholic former boxer returns home, where he's trained by his father for competition in a mixed martial arts tournament - a path that puts the fighter on a collision course with his estranged, older brother. This is not my usual type of movie, but I'm so glad I gave this a chance. Great performances from Joel Edgerton, Tom Hardy, and Nick Nolte. It was heart-breaking and heart-warming how the family reconnected. Don't get discouraged even though you're not into MMA (mixed martial arts)! It just happens that this terrific family drama revolves around that sport. The heart of the story is much more than that, so don't fret if you believe you won't enjoy it. The ending left me in tears (ok, maybe just a drop). It's also rare that I actually stand up and root for the character. That was how much I was invested in these fictional people.
- DirectorDuncan JonesStarsJake GyllenhaalMichelle MonaghanVera FarmigaA soldier wakes up in someone else's body and discovers he's part of an experimental government program to find the bomber of a commuter train within 8 minutes. The first time viewing this movie, I did not like it as much as I thought I would have. However, on my second viewing, I really appreciated the movie. It's quite unique even though some people might refer to it as a lower quality of Inception. Though, I'd like to say that it's original. It also reminded me of Groundhog Day. And the replay of specific scenes were not repetitive or boring in any way. Jake Gyllenhaal delivers in his role and the storyline is quite moving as well.
- DirectorDavid YatesStarsDaniel RadcliffeEmma WatsonRupert GrintHarry, Ron, and Hermione search for Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes in their effort to destroy the Dark Lord as the final battle rages on at Hogwarts.Probably my favorite HP movie. The action and the pacing of the storyline picks up compared to its last few movies. There's a lot more action actually and a few twists. A great conclusion to a highly popular saga/series.
- DirectorRupert WyattStarsJames FrancoAndy SerkisFreida PintoA substance designed to help the brain repair itself gives advanced intelligence to a chimpanzee who leads an ape uprising.Who could have thought that one of my favorite characters would be a CGI monkey? Caesar deserves a nomination for his performance. He felt so human/real to me. He does not speak, yet he conveys so much emotion. I truly believe that if it wasn't for him then the movie wouldn't have been as good as it is. I felt extremely bad for his character and at some point I felt like my stomach was doing weird backflips. His character is utterly touching.
- DirectorSarah PolleyStarsMichelle WilliamsSeth RogenSarah SilvermanA happily married woman falls for the artist who lives across the street.
- DirectorTate TaylorStarsViola DavisEmma StoneOctavia SpencerAn aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s decides to write a book detailing the African American maids' point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis.
- DirectorGlenn FicarraJohn RequaStarsSteve CarellRyan GoslingJulianne MooreA middle-aged husband's life changes dramatically when his wife asks him for a divorce. He seeks to rediscover his manhood with the help of a newfound friend, Jacob, learning to pick up girls at bars.I usually don't put a comedy movie on my top favorite list, but this one flowed so well that I had to! I was skeptical about this movie at first because it didn't really peek my interest. Though, the acting from Ryan Gosling and Steve Carrell carried the movie for me. Not to mention, the supporting casts made it even more enjoyable. It's rare to come across such great casts all around. The comedy was funny and the part at the end where/how everything was resolved made me really laugh out loud. Fun movie.
- DirectorJonathan LevineStarsJoseph Gordon-LevittSeth RogenAnna KendrickInspired by a true story, a comedy centered on a 27-year-old guy who learns of his cancer diagnosis and his subsequent struggle to beat the disease.
- DirectorGeorge NolfiStarsMatt DamonEmily BluntLisa ThoresonThe affair between a politician and a contemporary dancer is affected by mysterious forces keeping the lovers apart. This has just slid off my list after viewing War Horse recently.
- DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsChris HemsworthAnthony HopkinsNatalie PortmanThe powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.
- DirectorCary Joji FukunagaStarsMia WasikowskaMichael FassbenderJamie BellA mousy governess who softens the heart of her employer soon discovers that he's hiding a terrible secret. This movie is definitely not for everyone. It's rather slow, but weirdly enough, I believe that's one of the reasons why I love it. I liked how Jane Eyre progresses as a woman. I also tend to like movies revolving around this time age.
- DirectorBrad BirdStarsTom CruiseJeremy RennerSimon PeggThe IMF is shut down when it's implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization's name. This has just slid off my list after viewing The Help recently.
