- DirectorMichael MannStarsAl PacinoRobert De NiroVal KilmerA group of high-end professional thieves start to feel the heat from the LAPD when they unknowingly leave a verbal clue at their latest heist. This is my favourite movie of all time. Great story, great cast, great soundtrack, great cinematography, and excellent work by director Michael Mann. The ultimate cops-and-robbers movie that details both sides of the law. And to top it off, an excellent gunfight that would put many popcorn movies to shame. Masterful.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsTom HanksMatt DamonTom SizemoreFollowing the Normandy Landings, a group of U.S. soldiers go behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose brothers have been killed in action. The best war movie to date. Why this movie missed out on the Best Picture Oscar is beyond me.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioMatt DamonJack NicholsonAn undercover cop and a mole in the police attempt to identify each other while infiltrating an Irish gang in South Boston.Definitely deserved the Best Picture and Best Director for Martin Scorsese. Leonardo Di Caprio has come a long way from the days of Titanic, Matt Damon is great in a different role for him, Jack Nicholson is dynamite, and Mark Wahlberg steals every scene he is in. The rest of the supporting cast keep the movie together. Excellent entertainment from beginning to end that kept me glued to my seat, lots of unexpected twists, and plenty of awesome one-liners.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerLinda HamiltonEdward FurlongA cyborg, identical to the one who failed to kill Sarah Connor, must now protect her ten year old son John from an even more advanced and powerful cyborg. The best Sci-fi movie period. This movie has stood the test of time and one of Arnold's best of all time.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroSharon StoneJoe PesciIn Las Vegas, two best friends - a casino executive and a mafia enforcer - compete for a gambling empire and a fast-living, fast-loving socialite.Top movie, and brillant acting from a suburb cast. I consider this to be Robert De Niro's last memorably fantastic film.
- DirectorDanny BoyleStarsEwan McGregorEwen BremnerJonny Lee MillerRenton, deeply immersed in the Edinburgh drug scene, tries to clean up and get out despite the allure of drugs and the influence of friends. An anti-drugs black comedy. Good story and good characters (although some are very unlikeable). The soundtrack is killer. Highly recommended. Not for anyone that is sensitive.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsBrad PittEdward NortonMeat LoafAn insomniac office worker and a devil-may-care soap maker form an underground fight club that evolves into much more. One of the most original and best films of the 90's and Brad Pitt and Edward Norton make an unlikely duo. No other movie can match this.
- DirectorPaul VerhoevenStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerSharon StoneMichael IronsideWhen a man goes in to have virtual vacation memories of the planet Mars implanted in his mind, an unexpected and harrowing series of events forces him to go to the planet for real - or is he?One of Arnold's top movies. Total Recall is a fast-moving, graphically violent movie with brief moments of tongue-in-cheek humour. A great sci-fi action flick from start to finish.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsMorgan FreemanBrad PittKevin SpaceyTwo detectives, a rookie and a veteran, hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his motives. This is one of the more original serial-killer flicks out. Kevin Spacey is excellent as John Doe. Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt both do a fine job. The ending just smacks you in the face.
- DirectorMel GibsonStarsMel GibsonSophie MarceauPatrick McGoohanScottish warrior William Wallace leads his countrymen in a rebellion to free his homeland from the tyranny of King Edward I of England. This is Mel Gibson's best movie as actor and director. The battle scenes in this movie are the best. The movie is very long, but you can't turn away.
- DirectorCurtis HansonStarsKevin SpaceyRussell CroweGuy PearceAs corruption grows in 1950s Los Angeles, three policemen - one strait-laced, one brutal, and one sleazy - investigate a series of murders with their own brand of justice.Top crime/thriller that just oozes coolness. Kevin Spacey, Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe are excellent as three different police officers investigating a shooting at a diner. Nothing is what it seems, and by the end, it's not what you think how it ends.
- DirectorGuy RitchieStarsJason FlemyngDexter FletcherNick MoranEddy persuades his three pals to pool money for a vital poker game against a powerful local mobster, Hatchet Harry. Eddy loses, after which Harry gives him a week to pay back 500,000 pounds.Good British gangster movie that keeps you entertained. There are plenty of funny moments.
- DirectorJoel SchumacherStarsMichael DouglasRobert DuvallBarbara HersheyAn ordinary man frustrated with the various flaws he sees in society begins to psychotically and violently lash out against them.Top movie. Shows how one man just reaches breaking point in his life and starts a war with society. Excellent movie interlaced with moments of humour and drama. Michael Douglas' best role.
- DirectorJonathan DemmeStarsJodie FosterAnthony HopkinsScott GlennA young F.B.I. cadet must receive the help of an incarcerated and manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial killer, a madman who skins his victims.A tight thriller that will keep you to your seat. Anthony Hopkins is chilling as Hannibal Lector.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJoseph Gordon-LevittElliot PageA thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O., but his tragic past may doom the project and his team to disaster.Inception has set the benchmark for awesomeness. Christopher Nolan proves why he is an amazing director and has outdone himself with this captivating movie. The entire movie had me glued to the seat with this exceptionally rivetting and original plot. Leonardo Di Caprio keeps getting better as an actor. The visual effects were incredible and has set the benchmark which other movies cannot beat just like The Matrix did ten years ago.
- DirectorSteven SoderberghStarsMichael DouglasBenicio Del ToroCatherine Zeta-JonesA conservative judge is appointed by the President to spearhead America's escalating war against drugs, only to discover that his teenage daughter is a crack addict. Two DEA agents protect an informant. A jailed drug baron's wife attempts to carry on the family business.Another top notch movie that missed out on the Best Picture Academy Award.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsJosh HartnettEwan McGregorTom SizemoreThe story of 160 elite U.S. soldiers who dropped into Mogadishu in October 1993 to capture two top lieutenants of a renegade warlord, but found themselves in a desperate battle with a large force of heavily armed Somalis.Don't even blink or look away, the action is non-stop and in-your-face in this movie. Featuring an all star cast, this is one of the top war movies of all time.
- DirectorMichael BayStarsSean ConneryNicolas CageEd HarrisA mild-mannered chemist and an ex-con must lead the counterstrike when a rogue group of military men, led by a renegade general, threaten a nerve gas attack from Alcatraz against San Francisco. An explosive action movie that has a good plot. Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage are a good duo, and Ed Harris makes a good villain. Definitely a highlight in Michael Bay's career.
- DirectorLana WachowskiLilly WachowskiStarsKeanu ReevesLaurence FishburneCarrie-Anne MossWhen a beautiful stranger leads computer hacker Neo to a forbidding underworld, he discovers the shocking truth--the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence.One of the most original sci-fi movies to be released at the end of the 90's. This is also one of Keanu Reeves' best roles to date. The whole story, the action, everything was just excellent. Sadly, the sequels were very ordinary and failed to even go one better than the original.
- DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsTom HanksRobin WrightGary SiniseThe history of the United States from the 1950s to the '70s unfolds from the perspective of an Alabama man with an IQ of 75, who yearns to be reunited with his childhood sweetheart. The story of an extraordinary man living an extraordinary life.
