- A group of regulars in a pub, who share their stories and their lives with lots of songs and joy.
- Bennie de Winter, large shareholder of De Winter Flowers, dies. His daughter Esther inherits his possession.
- De Prooi tells the story of the rise and fall of Dutch banker Rijkman Groenink and the fall of ABN AMRO Bank. It is based on the acclaimed novel by research journalist and professor Jeroen Smit. Groenink is a briljant banker. Most of his colleges see him as a financial wonderboy. In 2000 he is chosen as chairman of the Board of Directors of ABN AMRO Bank. In his inauguration speech he states that ABN AMRO will be within the top 5 of the worlds biggest operational banks and will focus only on shareholder value. To achieve this ambitious position, Rijkman starts to negotiate with other banks in order to be able to purchase them. Soon is it is very clear his professional strategy and ambition is not supported by his personal skills. Rijkman is not empathic and his sick jokes make more enemies then friends and cost the bank more money than he will admit. The young and beautiful Julia Bouwens is appointed as Rijkmans personal assistant. Although she has the right qualifications, her main goal is to make sure Rijkman is improving his social skills in order to be more successful in strategic business meetings. Although in 2005 business magazine Elsevier acclaims Groenink as 'Dutch businessman of the Year', the downfall of the bank has already set in. Big purchases cost the bank more than calculated. After a number of dramatic incidents, Rijkman has to do everything to prevent the bank from being split and sold. But he will not succeed. In 2007 a consortium of three banks, Fortis, RBS and Banco Santander, take over ABN AMRO and Rijkman Groenink has to leave. The Perfect Prey is not a series about the question of guilt or who is to blame for the fall of one of the biggest banks in the Netherlands. It is a psychological drama about the mechanisms of power at work in a era in which people believed money was everywhere and inexhaustible.
- The story lines of several sets of people in Amsterdam are shown in flashback from a bus explosion, where most finally converge. Enterprising hedonist Dennis' fun life is altered by his love for nurse Pauline. High school boys of Moroccan origin Nadir and Omar don't just remain passive confronted with blatant, implicit and presumed forms of discrimination. State security detective Hein investigates Islamist terrorist threats, extreme right politician De Zwart capitalizes on them but also incurs personal peril.
- A twelve-year old Noortje experiences her first massage, given by a large, muscular man. Noortje feels insecure because of her awakening sexuality and feeling a bit more like a woman.
- The boy who thought he was good enough the way he was is a short poetical children's film about eleven year old Latif who is not quite who his father expects him to be. Latif is gifted with a great feeling for rhythm. Even everyday life and ordinary objects feed him with inspiration for new musical compositions; the sound of a falling knife, the ticking of a clock, the small talk at breakfast. Opposed to his concentration for making music, Latif has a hard time concentrating at school. His father doesn't understand the problems Latif has at school and thinks his son spends too many hours in his room, making music. When the tension between father and son increases, Latif flees in his music and finds himself in his fantasy world, where there is no time and space. Only the nature and his friend the camel, where he finds peace resting against its warm flank. As his results at school get worse his father's disappointment grows. A visit to a children's psychiatrist offers a solution; there are pills against Latif's concentration problems. But Latif doesn't want these pills. Isn't he good enough the way he is?
- Door gets a bus ride to Spain for her birthday to visit Lucas and Sjon at their hotel Al Ladro de Lukas. The rest of the gang decide to travel along, only to find the hotel a shambles.
- Door's former best friend Jopie Duprez comes to visit, so everybody has to pretend all of her tall tales are true. Huipie is going to get supplies in the Netherlands. Riek & Ton involve themselves in the love life of young Debby & Ronnie.
- Kootje has taken over management of the hotel, now called 'Pensión La Oveja Española'. Lucas & Lena both fancy their first guest Patrick while Door & Riek both want to do the cooking.
- When Lena's mother Trudy arrives unexpectedly the others do their best to keep the two of them separate. Riek is depressed because of her impending birthday.
- Huipie has been arrested for trying to smuggle licker across the border. Feeling guilty, Arie promises to look after the twins while Trees goes to try and free her husband. Meanwhile Door meets a handsome Spanish policeman and, urged on by Lena, decides to have one last fling before it's too late.
- Grandma Anne Withof is reunited with her old flame Harrie Pique. Door is offered the lead in an amateur production of Carmen.
- Opoe has passed away in her sleep. Lena inherits her gift of reading tea leaves and Kootje gets some last advice concerning Door. Riek and Ton are still thinking about buying Harrie's boat, but Sjon arrives with more bad news.
- Upset because Door has had a passionate night with Pablo, Kootje also gets himself a Spanish flame: Raquel. Opoe is trying to cover up that she's had a little accident during the night.
- Nadir is torn between his father, insisting he must invest in his future as integrated Dutchman, and his Islamist Moroccan uncle. Omar proudly hears his letter, deploring crypto-xenophobia, read out on TV when detective Hein uses the fake bomb's replica to expose his superior's vicious attempt to make the people believe in a terrorist threat. George has taken the gun from his shop while tailing Nadir, mistakes his innocent sports-bag for another bomb and accidentally causes the bus crash and explosion. It shakes the courthouse where De Zwart is testifying with masterly hypocrisy. Now they have the means, Dennis and Pauline are delighted to keep the baby and plan a wedding.
- Flashback a month and a half from an explosion at an Amsterdam bus with ten Dutch passengers. School buddies Nadir Bezouh and Omar Amezian, rascals of Moroccon descent, are fed up being dealt with harder then other knaves and as eternal first suspects. Charismatic Amstel river tour guide Dennis Koudstaal always enjoys life to the fullest. TV talk show host Klaas Kroon and anti-Islamic politician Thomas de Zwart hate being distracted from work, even for domestic life.
- Five weeks before the explosion, Nadir and Omar's frustration peeks when bluntly denied any chance to do a school-assigned one week internship at the precinct. Clever Nadir makes a fake Semtex bomb, which Omar 'forgets' in Amsterdam city hall, while Nadir anonymously calls in a fake alert. National coordinator Philip van Henegouwen decides however to pretend the army dismantled a real bomb and starts a terrorist hunt. Slick Dennis makes a joyride with his girl and grandmother, who wants to select a spot for her remains. The politician makes a great guest on the TV talk show, while their women cause fuzz about mundane private matters.
- Omar is afraid the police will find out he left behind the 'bomb' in city hall, hence too depressed to go out with Tamara. Cahoot Nadir is surprised to hear the increased security level caused his uncle (61) to be strip-searched in the airport, but he was released despite carrying an heirloom dagger and pistol. Dennis Koudstaal's latest stunt is sneaking into an abandoned villa to enjoy the hot tub naked with his girlfriend, but they actually find owner Thomas de Zwart in the master bedroom, OD'es. Hein van Vlijmen is disappointed that the anti-terrorism-coordinator job went to a colleague solely on PC grounds, so he's barely motivated to visit his former coach George, a grocer, who noticed activity and the exact bomb-type red sports bag in Nadir's home across the road. The xenophobic politcian attends a soccer match incognito, yet is scolded wiy his state security body guard for foolish risks.
- The Moroccan knaves' bitterness grows as the 'bomb' worsens anti-Muslim discrimination. Uncle Ibn Hassan preaches moral fortitude like Koranic Yusuf (=Biblical Joseph) and Omar finds comfort in Tamara's bed, but Nadir secretly consults a grim Jihadist website. Detective Hein neglects another warning from his ex-coach. Dennis's girlfriend Pauline gets away with staying by the cardiac patient, being mistaken for his daughter, and later tells Dennis she expects his baby. The old couple's forgetfulness is now a constant danger for everyone.
- Nadir was fired from the rest home after a food-fight. Omar isn't amused by a mock terrorist call to Jihad staged by Nadir as birthday e-mail, but celebrates with the family. An imam's lesson on peaceful jihad is interrupted by a firebomb thrown into the mosque. Dennis takes his Pauline to a new experience, emerged bathing, which goes badly, but to his delight the reason is pregnancy. The forgetful crone cancels the nurse and fatally messes up her husband's dialysis. Detective Hein finds the 'bomber bag' was allegedly sent to Paris for forensics but no report arrived and his best mate, whom he discovers did his adulterous wife three years, calls Paris a most unlikely partner. Hein listens to shopkeeper ex-coach's latest observations, a bit much for coincidence perhaps.
- Dennis is determined to become a perfect family father, so he proposes marriage and plans to earn a living with an original bicycles shop. Ileligible for a bank loan, he accepts dodgy courier work, but panics when a motor cop arrives and looses the package. Hein can't accept being kept in the dark even after a new bomb attack in Paris and an illegally acquired tip from coach, but is sidetracked. Tamara's lawyer father tells her 'for an assignment' how hypothetical fake bombers should proceed. The politician's disguise backfires when his grime artist is attacked by agitators from his extreme right party and she insists on a public complaint likely to result in a high-profile trial.
- After loosing his courier package, Dennis gets a terrible beating from Mike, who demands 30,000 Euros compensation in a week, way beyond his means. So he loses his patience learning fiancée Pauline talked to suicidal Klass, not him, and plans to have an adoption as he advised. However Klaas now leaves to commit a failed suicide attempt and bequeaths Pauline a painting likely to fetch more at an auction. To Nadir's father's fury, his uncle the imam seems to drag the knave away from Dutch integration to Muslim fundamentalism, while in fact he still manages to pass for his assignment. Omar follows Tamara's father's advice by attempting to make a replica of Nadir's fake bomb to send to the authorities. Shopkeeper 'coach' George follows Nadir and the imam, now both in traditional robes, informing detective Hein, who suspects foul play inside the Dutch state security. Politician De Zwart apologizes for his collaborator's bribery attempt and promises to testify against the racist attackers.
- Esther decides to spy on Anton and his new girlfriend while trying to figure out her relationship with Mok. Iris, Youssef and Ron are figuring out the terms of their relationship. Fien makes her demands clear to Anton.
- Esther and Eva interfere with the management about the threatening lawsuits of Fien. Esther encourages her family to keep fighting , whatever the price will be.
- Iris worries about her hospital check-up, while Anton's jealousy annoys Mylene. Esther forges a radical plan to stop Fien. Meanwhile, Wouter wants to organize a party at his home, instead of Esther's.
- The Dutch bank ABN AMRO is doing well and ambitious, aiming to grow into a major international player. Brilliant banker Rijkman Groenink's ambition to become CEO nearly fails due to his haughty lack of social skills. His friends end up getting him named, but even those who end up with promotions themselves start to doubt their choice. His excellent relations with the Ducth finance minister our outweighed by his often disastrous part in crucial merger and take-over negotiations.
- Now Groenink finally made it as CEO, he haughtily turns on his staff, bullying even those who made his career against all odds. His overt arrogance proves a major handicap, despite a fine reputation and ECB standing, in attempts to grow fast by taking over foreign banks, like an Italia one snapped up by the competition as he lacks finesse to master the big boys game.
- The outgoing bank chairman is pressured by the board of directors to get the Special Credits manager approved as his successor.
