- On their search for the true meaning of the Ganesh statue they must return from Bompa Kado's inheritance to its origin, the boys Pieter and Dimitri are introduced on the first day of the Hindu god's festival to an Indian family, which shows them all they do in the name of Ganesh. Apart from the ritual cult-use of the venerated elephant statues in every Hindu home, such as offerings, even for his sisters, everyone invokes Ganesh for good luck in addition to practical preparations, in all aspects of life, including games and sports such as cricket (extremely popular in Commonwealth countries) and tennis, a small image for luck while driving a car, and for major occasions professional temple cult by a Brahmin, a Hindu priest...
- When Dimitri and Pieter arrive in Mexico they start looking for the gods who created corn. When the gods seem to have disappeared, they go looking for the Azteks. Soon they discover a horrible truth.
- The boys take the Virgin of Guadelupe's advice to cure Dimi's irrational guilt over the Conquista by practicing the seven charitable works of mercy. First the hungry are fed, in a taco stand, then the thirsty quenched, as beer vendors in a soccer stadium. They cheat a bit by visiting not real prisoners (they almost committed a bank robbery to get in) but a strict school where they entertain a class of school kids. Clothing the naked is rather wasted on a fountain statue. Next they visit the sick, as clini-clowns on a children's ward. Sheltering the homeless is done by trading places with two of them for one night. Finally the boys must bury the dead, but choose sugar skulls, actually meant as party attributes for the All Saints 'festival of the dead', nevertheless counted by the Virgin, who now reveals she once was an Indian fertility goddess and sends them to search for the corn growers.
- As there are no more Aztecs, the boys go look for Mayas, according to mythology magically made from corn, in a peasant village in Guatemala. There the farmer's families won't just accept Bompa Kado's corn: they must return it to the earth in the mountain valley, but are swallowed by the underworld. Dimitri gets an accidentally self-inflicted machete cut, which needs to be bandaged; his blood summons the Mayan corn god, who is used to sacrifices and says nobody leaves there, they buried the corn instead of sowing it; only defeating the Lords of the Underworld could get them out. The Lords will only grant them a 'fair fight' at the traditional ball game after passing the caves of the carnivorous bats, which are attracted by blood and sweat, and Pieter literally loses his head...
- The boys seem hopelessly at odds, their only hope being to win the ancient Mayan game played with a heavy rubber ball which may not go out of the air and can only be hit with the middle of the body, but once Pieter gets his head back it proves a close contest, which they win after returning the cowardly stolen first point of the Lords of the Underworld, who know tell them -accidentally- the way out, back to the surface. They wonder how man can be made by corn in the Mayan tradition, since that crop only became what it now is by slow selection of every more grains per stem. Sowing is considered an act of creating life, even re-creating a 'new' world. Villagers teach them to make a pact with mother earth trough prayers, before clearing the jungle-overgrown field-to-be laboriously by machete after a ritual excuse for hurting the vegetation, then a Catholic procession and grand fiesta meanwhile prepared by the women to bless the seeds, with various dances considered as a form of moving prayer. The next morning, they finally can start separating the individual seeds before planting them properly, not deep but using pointed stakes.
- Dimitri and Pieter travel from one temple to another to Honor Ganesh. In each temple they have to fulfill an assignment, pick flowers to make an offer string of flowers for Ganesh, climb trees to find coconuts to offer, play in a Bollywood film to gain money to offer. At the end of their motor ride they have engine troubles and Mr Elefant Himself helps the youngsters to their final destination.
- Dimitri and Pieter go looking for the origin and meaning of a mask. Soon they discover that, in Africa, masks are meant to dance with. They try their luck in a local disco.
- Pieter is possessed by Amasagou - the spirit housing in the mask! Dimitri & Pieter set of to find the Marabou who can get the spirit out of Pieters head, back into the mask. Along their adventurous road, they study the 'Word of God' in the Wholy Quran school.
- Once Dimitri and Pieter arrive at the village mentioned on the map, they learn that the magic mask actually belongs to the Dogon. However, the Dogon have moved to a place 10 days by foot, ages ago. When our adventurers want to set out on foot, the Chief of the Village has a little surprise for them!
- Arriving at the Valley of the Dogon, Pieter and Dimitri learn that the magic mask is meant to take part in the DAMA dance. The DAMA is the second funeral, or the moment that a spirit becomes an ancestor. To be allowed to participate in this ritual dance, Dimitri and Pieter first will have to become ... a Dogon.
- When Dimitri and Pieter arrive in Hong Kong they are astonished by the fact that Chinese people seem to pay so much attention to their 'luck'. They decided that this Wheel, must be the Wheel of Luck. Thus they set out for the casino.
- Dimitri and Pieter decide to burn all the money they have won in the casino at the temple. There, a fortuneteller reveals that the Dragon has stolen their Wheel. To win it back, they need to enter the 'Kingdom of the Middle'.
- Dimitri en Pieter become monk. They enter a Buddhist monastery and learn how to live according the principles. They participate in the big ceremony of Earth and Water.
- The Dragon leads them to the Buddha. He teaches them that, in order to find the wheel, they have to live according the wheel. This turns out not to be that simple and Buddha sends the Dragon to lead the Way.
