- Members of a family are separated in a natural disaster. Several years down the line, they aren't united but their lives are strangely interconnected.
- After completing his medical studies, Gopal (Rajendra Kumar) takes a break and goes on holiday in Kashmir. There he meets with Usha (Sadhana) and both fall in love with each other. Back home, Gopal has a close friend, Ramesh (Feroze Khan), whose dad (Brahm Bhardwaj) wants him to marry Usha as an arranged marriage. Ramesh likes Usha and is willing to marry her. In the meantime, Gopal finds out that Ramesh is going to be married to Usha and decides not to pursue his romance with Usha. When Ramesh and Gopal's sister, Sarla (Nazima) convince Gopal that Usha only loves him, he reveals a dark secret to them, which may convince them that he is not right for Usha.
- Somna lives a poor lifestyle with her widowed mom Leela, in the mountainous region of India and Nepal. She makes a living working on the apple farm of wealthy widower Kailash Nath Kaushal, who also runs a mountaineering school and has Amar Kumar as one of his students. Somna and Amar meet, fall in love, decide to get married with Amar's parents' and Leela's approval, with the marriage to take place shortly after Amar returns from a climbing expedition. A few days later, following an avalanche, they get the news that Amar and the other climbers have been killed. A devastated Somna is molested by Shamsher Singh, and Kailash comes to her rescue, he also offers to marry her when he finds out that she is pregnant. The marriage takes place, Somna gives birth to a boy, Bobby, while Shamsher is arrested and sent to jail for 6 years. Kailash, who is unable to have children after an accident, is thrilled to be a father, adores and is virtually inseparable from Bobby. But will Jamuna be willing to re-open the unpleasant past, or will she be content with the way things have turned out to be.

During the marriage, Shanno gets a shock when she sees who her "Kanhaiya" really - the town drunk and slacker, who had taken advantage of her love for Bhagwan Shri Kishan, played with her emotions, and now is bent upon marrying her. And all this happens when the village falls in the grip of a killer plague that may well devastate their community.

He takes her home to meet his mom and Munni; both approve of her and hope she'll marry Amar. Then Amar watches Kalpana dancing in the theater; he meets with her and they rekindle their romance. Asha notices this and steps away, heartbroken. Amar asks Kalpana to come meet his mother and Munni, which she does; during this meeting, they get an unexpected visitor: Kalpana's brother Johar. The truth about Kalpana, her mom, and their background is revealed, changing everyone's lives forever.
