- Clay Rathbun, a struggling young attorney, does not believe in violence. He is in love with Eleanor Morgan, daughter of Captain Morgan, an ex-ranger and brother of Ranger "Slim" Morgan, Clay's best friend. Gus Ogilbie, after serving 5 years in jail, comes out seeking revenge but fails to get the drop on Clay (whose father, now dead, helped to convict him). Eleanor, at her father's insistence, rejects Clay because he is not a ranger. When Slim is discovered near death, Clay puts on Slim's holster and for once in his life goes out "huntin' trouble." Gus and his men show up, and Eleanor sends Bullet, Clay's dog, with her handkerchief to fetch Clay. Clay arrives in time to defeat the culprits in a fight, and Captain Morgan accepts Clay as his future son-in-law.
- Bob Carson and his pal Hank O'Hara are wandering through the west and stop at a western café and get into an argument with bad guys Mort Van Vlack and Al Sinclair. Alice Bartlett, recently orphaned, rides to town and pays money lender William Skinner on a note he holds against her late father's ranch. She does not know the note is a forgery made by Skinner and his henchmen Mort and Al. The latter dust off Skinner after an argument over how to split the money. Carson goes to Skinner's office, and is leaning over the dead man's corpse when the Sheriff shows up and arrests him for the killing.
- Captain Harris, a railroad civil engineer, is killed by Sanger and Foote after they have tried in vain to bribe him into telling them the location of the new right-of-way. They escape with Harris' map, and Jim Blake is unjustly suspected of the murder. The Harris map indicates that the new line will run through the ranch of Roy Wetzel, and Sanger offers to buy the land. Wetzel refuses, and Sanger has Wetzel framed for murder. Jim, who is in love with Lois Wetzel, Roy's sister, rescues Roy and proves Sanger to be the guilty party. Jim and Lois are married.
- Bob Baxter, a man whose past is a closed book, is in love with ranch owner "Pop" Hilder's daughter, Rhoda. Gambler Roy Harlan arrives and attempts to blackmail Bob for $25,000, the reward advertised for the apprehension of Bob under the name "Warner." Rhoda overhears the conversation, but Bob refuses to explain. She finally gets Bob's sidekick, "The Duke," to divulge that Bob took the blame for a shooting done by his brother-in-law. Bob attempts to leave, and Harlan calls for the sheriff and solicits the aid of Lige Gilson and his two buddies, The Yuma Kid and Roxy LaRue, who have a grudge against Bob. Rhoda tries to help Bob but is abducted by Harlan. Bob tracks Harlan to his hideout with the aid of his dog, Bullet. He captures the gang by a ruse and beats up Harlan. The sheriff arrives with the news that Bob's brother-in-law has confessed on his deathbed to the shooting. Bob is free to pursue his romance with Rhoda.
- When Pierre Fayette and his daughter, Heloise, discover gold on their ranch, neighboring ranchers Fred Holt and Barney Sims accuse him of being an outlaw in an attempt to take over the property. Deputy Marshall Ben Austin starts an investigation before he is wounded in an ambush. Ben's brother, Ward, assumes his identity to finish the job. A short time later, Ward is thrown down a mine shaft by Holt and Sims, but his dog and horse come to the rescue. Ward quickly proves Pierre's innocence and wins the heart of Heloise.
