- Another environmental threat spreads over the Attic landscape. In Ovriokastro Keratea, an archaeological site and in short distance from legitimate residences, the impending landfill has, for years, mobilized the local community. The Prefecture of Eastern Attica, in collaboration with the Municipality of Keratea, created a documentary, documenting the systematic and highly organized response of the local community towards these state plans. Residents of Keratea and Ovriokastro, ordinary citizens, scientists and artists, unite their voices over small-scale benefits in a call to preserve culture and the environment. The documentary, along with the mobilization of the citizens, draws and highlights the importance of this Attica region, approaches the cultural character of Ovriokastro, stands above the innumerable mining tunnels, reveals ecological routes that until now have remained in obscurity. The documentary demonstrates the tragic impasse in which a society can be driven when it finds that its environment is threatened and how it has been driven by the inadequate policy of the respective governments. In this impasse, the local community seeks and finds the spiritual, mental and physical forces and sets up a shield of protection in Ovriokastro.
