The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
Hours later, I am still moved.
This is what a movie should be like. I have only had a few movie experiences like it before. Braveheart, The Matrix, Lord Of The Rings... You know what I am talking about. That feeling that lingers, not just for a few hours, or a few days, but that resonates and stays with you the rest of your life. It's almost sacred, when art is this good.
I didn't enjoy the first Hobbit as much as the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, but this one was just as good, if not better. It had everything you could wish. Spectacular landscape settings, memorable characters, memorable romance, great story telling, high packed action, I just.... am speechless.
If at all you are able to see this one in the cinema, on a great screen with great sound, you should. This one of those movies... The rare ones. The kind that places on your top ten list immediately. I will watch this movie many times. I can't wait for the extended edition. I can't wait to see it again. Thank you Peter Jackson and team. Well done!
The Newsroom (2012)
Readjusted Rating -- Again
I had originally given the show ten stars after watching two shows. First two shows were awesome! Finally an intellectual show blending drama, romance, politics, news, great acting, and great scripts.
Having watched another two shows it is obvious, however, that the show is turning into another slew of liberal propaganda. It's still a good show. If you are liberal, you should love it! And I can really recommend it. However, if you are conservative, probably not so much, as the show uses every opportunity to present everything from a liberal perspective. I had to readjust my 10 to a 7. Still hoping for the best. I have the feeling I will be adjusting it again later in the season...
Edit: I have now watched as far as episode 6, an I am sad to say that I will not be watching any more episodes. 6 shows of one-sided liberal propaganda. I had expected more from the show. I started at ten, then seven. Seeing as this show is the optimal display of hypocrisy, I will ajust it to a four. Too bad. The first episode was so great, and promised so much. I sort of feel like I have been Obamad. Was promised change, but was given more of the same.
Awake (2012)
The best of T.V.
I was so incredibly sad that this series was canceled. For once there was a T.V.-series that was not only entertaining but was philosophical, psychological, spiritual, and intelligent. I suppose it was too sophisticated for the average viewer. The acting is also top notch. All I can say is, that even though there is only one season, if you are the kind of person that loves to be challenged in your intellect, Do Yourself a Favor, and do not miss it! This T.V. series has everything you could wish for. Good acting, good plot, and it makes you think for hours if not days afterward! Thanx to everyone who made 'Awake' a reality!
Oh, and by the way, giving it ten stars is *not* an exaggeration, it's well deserved. I cannot think of a single thing they could have done to make it better...
The Iron Lady (2011)
Sorely Disappointed
Meryl Streep did great, off course, but the manuscript was the worst imaginable. I came to see a movie about Margaret Thatcher's life. Instead they produced a movie about an old lady's dealing with the loss of her husband. Shame on the producers. Shame, shame, shame.
The beginning of the movie starts with Margaret Thatcher at old age. Fine, I thought. Soon they will cut to a flash back and tell the story of her life. Nope. No such luck. The middle and the end was also about Margaret Thatcher's old age. Admittedly with glimpses of flash back. But the producers were evidently much more interested in telling the story of her last days, than the story of her life. A better title would have been, "The Death of Margaret Thatcher".
I look forward to someone else making a movie about Margaret Thatcher's LIFE. And by all means choose Meryl Streep again, cause she IS a great actress.
