A Dog of Flanders (1999)

Great movie, horrible ending!

I've just seen this movie on TV. When I saw it advertised, I thought that it would be interesting. And it was. The story of the kid all alone in the world, who is phorbidden to see his best friend and is unfairly accused of being a criminal and, above all dreams of being a great painter, accompanied by a dog was really going quite well. And when I saw that scene where the kid was watching is own funeral I thought it was going to end that way. But no! They had to put a cheesy, melodramatic ending with no sense at all. In my opinion, the movie would have been perfect if it had ended with the kid actually dying. It would make much more sense, given the evolution of the story. Like this it is a fantastic movie, with an horrible ending.

I could start this comment by comparing this movie to a Disney movie, but I won't. I think that to critizise or to complement a movie you shouldn't compare it to others, it has to stand on its own

Let me start by saying that I never saw this in theatres, I saw it for the first time last night on DVD. I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting something better.

Let me start to comment on the story. It's not bad, but, honestly it was not that great either. The concept was really good, but it all happens too fast. I believe that it should have been more develloped and show us more about certain characters. Also, they shouldn't have atempted so much humour moments, because most of them failed. It would have been better to make the story a bit more deep and dramatic and not attempt to make humour.

As for the voices of the characters. I really have nothing to say. The voices suit the characters just fine.

The soundtrack is quite good. The celtic feeling put into it really gives the movie a certain feeling. I specially like the song "My father's wings", sang by The Corrs.

Well, to sum up it had everything to be a great movie, but it can only be reasonbly good. But it's worth seeing anyway, and worth having in your DVD collection.

I absolutely love films that involve time travel. It makes us wonder if it's really worth to change time. It also makes us think that things happen for a reason and changing the past can have catastrophic consequences.

This movie shows that really well.

The Cutting Edge (1992)

Surprinsingly good movie

Figure skating is one of my passions (as a spectator, since I can't do it myself because of some health problems). I love everything that has to do with it. Therefore, when this movie was anounced on TV las week, I thought "I have to see it". And I'm not sorry. The figure skating scenes are wonderfull and very well performed. Someone in this website wondered if the twist they did in the end was possible. As someone who understands a bit about figure skating I tend to think that it is indeed possible (though very difficult). All the performers in this movie are great and the relationship between Kate and Doug is incredibly amusing; the tension and attraction between those two is amazing. If you like figure skating and/or romantic comedies this is a movie that you have to see.

Popular (1999–2001)

Good, but could be better.

I started to see "Popular" by accident. I turned on the TV, and it was on. I saw it and I started to get interested. But then... The dramatic parts are good, but the so called comedy parts are just too silly! There are things that are totally unrealistic! Besides, the so called "pretty" girls are not pretty at all, and the so called ugly girls are gorgeous! It's good, but let me say that there isn't a single normal teenager there! Where are the teenagers that just don't care about what other people think and go on?
