2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
This is gonna generate some controversy - don't watch it
Ok, I will start with the positives. After all, I do believe in giving credit where credits due. The visuals are insane. Especially for a movie made in 1968. Kubrick's concepts for the year 2001 are very intriguing, like the different kinds of spaceships, computers and nutrients. The acting is pretty consistent and I don't have many complaints (except for the scene where Heywood calls his daughter, that was a bit awkward).
But apart from that I really didn't enjoy this movie at all. Before you start thinking that I just have a short attention span, let me just say that I typically enjoy slower paced movies more than standard ones. But this was just torture. In two hours and twenty minutes the movie tells the shortest story ever.
In the beginning of humanity, apes find a weird monolith next to a pond that gives them the idea of weapons. Fast forward to 2001 and scientists find the same object buried underneath the moon. The signal is traced back to Jupiter and a team is sent to investigate. Aboard there's three doctors, two overseers and a computer called Hal. Hal malfunctions during the trip, the overseers talk about disconnecting Hal, Hal betrays them killing all but one guy, the same guy kills Hal, and during his landing on Jupiter he has weird visions of him in a room where he slowly ages. THAT'S IT. THAT'S THE WHOLE TWO HOURS AND A HALF OF MOVIE. Listen I would say that this movie isn't for everyone, but that would be an understatement. It's made for an extremely small percentage of people. I enjoy slow paced movies, and I hated this movie. Just imagine what the average viewer will think about this movie. If you want to see a slow paced sci-fi movie with beautiful visuals and an engaging story watch Interstellar, but stay away from this one.
This movie is going under my list of "most overrated movies of all time" together with Footloose.
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
The best Spider-Man trilogy
The Andrew Garfield spider man is the best one in my opinion (yes, I said it. Deal with it).
The comedy is spot on, the suit design was incredible, the story was deep and the plot was solid. I really enjoyed this movie and choosing Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker was a really good decision.
The CGI was fantastic and in this movie we finally got to see a little bit more in depth the other characters that weren't Peter.
The story isn't 100% accurate to the comics, but hang in there, watch the second movie and you're in for an immersive plot full of mysteries that slowly start to uncover.
The one thing that I don't like is actually an issue I have with a lot of superhero instalments. Just a few days after the main character gets his powers, he already manages to go head-to-head with full-on supervillains. I like for example that in the Tom Holland trilogy, Peter has been Spider-Man for a while and has a bit more experience, while this movie has the same old issue.
But a part from that, I really loved this movie. Would recommend.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (2022)
Almost perfect (I prefer the Complete Saga)
I really enjoyed this game. As a Star Wars fan I was really hyped for this game and I played the first two episodes with my friend. It was fun, action packed, the humor fit in pretty well and the puzzled were 100% Lego style.
The idea of an open world Lego Star Wars game was a very good one and the result shows why. With a huge character roster, a great variety of bonus levels and side quests, tons of planets to explore and a wide selection of starships the galaxy is basically yours for the taking.
On a technical point of view, I played this on an Xbox Series S and it runs smoothly. The controls are pretty smooth and reactive and the graphics and textures look really good.
But all this wonderful content doesn't blind me to its weaknesses.
As a fan many of my problems were the lack in the episodes. For example, there are so many great moments that could have been included in the game like the space battle at the start of Revenge Of The Sith. Instead, they just fitted all in a cutscene of just a few seconds.
Another issue (maybe it was only me) but episode 5 was REALLY buggy. I had to either constantly die or reset the game to play normally.
The last issue was the inclusion of the sequels. Nah I'm trolling. On a serious note though, my main problem was the fact that the game was WAY to easy. Especially in the original trilogy. Just for some context, I usually suck at video games. But in this game there were some bosses that I was literally able to beat in less of a minute. Take for example the Boba Fett boss battle in Return Of The Jedi. His AI seemed to be made on purpose to be dumb. I stood literally stood still most of the time and just completely missed and he rarely attacked.
Honestly this wouldn't be an issue for me if there was an option to increase difficulty. I understand why this wasn't a thing though because this game was made during the pandemic and for what we got it's a pretty good game.
Overall, this game is recommended for any Star Wars fan both young and old, Lego fans, and for kids. If you get the chance I recommend it.
