Smiley (2012)
I think the other reviews are unfair.
I got a lot more than I expected, the psychological ride was better than most horror movies. Actually, I wouldn't call this a horror, it is a psychological drama. At times, sure the editing made it so the acting appeared bad, but I'd say well acted. The lead actress is very good, screaming annoys me though(hard to avoid in this movie!). The YouTube actors also did quite a good job. It more of a homage to 80,90's horror movies, which I loved! Jason, Freddy, the fact no one believes the victim. I also noticed some pretty shoddy continuity in the opening kill scene, not subtle, blatant continuity conflict. Either way, I stand by my 7/10(6.5/10).
Evilution (2008)
god, ffs.
Man, the opening scene was the best in the movie. What happened after that was poor acting and a really bad script. Once you have watched every movie/TV show you've wanted to watch ...and you have nothing left, this movie should tied you over. Some good actors from back in the day, like early Dave Chappelle movies make an appearance and that was the highlight for me. A crappy zombie movie and I know that everyone involved knew it, but it was too late, they were already making it. I'll be fair and say that most of the actors did what they could, but some were just terrible. This movie is for someone who is bored for a night in, although it will give good entertainment.
Visions (2009)
Nearly turned it off but,
The opening 10 minutes, could have been so good, if it wasn't for weak acting and a poorly written script. Not to mention the fact that they dubbed another voice over a nurse.
After that, the movie kept me guessing, I was certain I knew how the movie was going to end, then changed my mind again and again, until it ended the way I initially expected it to.
It's a good psychological thriller about a serial killer and the movie only shows the violence that is necessary, which is in good taste.
I liked this movie overall. It killed 100 minutes of life with the flu.
In the end, I'm glad I didn't turn it off.
I Love You, Beth Cooper (2009)
Negative reviews are wrong
The opening speech, which is painfully hilarious, sets the tone for this movie.
I went into this movie knowing the plot and knew I couldn't expect too much.
I laughed constantly throughout the movie, if i wasn't, i was smiling. There's lots of original comedy in this movie even if it is about a nerdy highschool boy trying to get the hottest cheerleader.
For what this movie is and what it tries to be, its got 10/10, lets face it, it's not trying to be Dead Poet's Society.
I would recommend this to people I know, saying its SO much better than all the reviews out there. I think its classic. 10/10(it couldn't be any better for what it is)
Blood: The Last Vampire (2009)
Flawless, but kind of wtf.
This movie has everything going for it.
There's action, tragedy, great cinematography, good directing.
But, there is a great problem with the script, its almost like budget cuts came in half through the movie and its not that they sacrificed quality in the process.
It feels like they were half way through a 3 hour epic and they wrote in a quick step to the final scene, to make it 2 hours.
Sure if you want to play up to the existential art-house of cinema the ending would have played out, but the entire movie before it wasn't going in that direction.
It seems like some parts of the movie were directed by somebody else, especially the flashbacks. The flashbacks alone crap on the rest of the movie.
I guarantee this movie for entertainment. A bit of tragedy and entertainment. But there is definitely a hole in the movie that should make everyone who watches it think 'WTF', how did it even get to this point, where is the rest of the movie.
If it had the rest of the movie, its 9/10.
For what it is, its a quality action/vampire movie.
For what it's not, wait for DVD(as long as its on a big TV and HD) because some of the sword scenes are brutal.
The Last House on the Left (2009)
Good Lord - What the Hell
I am a fan of 2 of the actors in this movie - but after this disgusting piece of crap they've made I've lost all respect for both Garret Dillahunt & Aaron Paul. Both had won me over from Terminator & Breaking Bad. This is perhaps too real, I've seen a rape scene in movie that lasted 15 minutes. But this one was too brutal within seconds. Underage girls being raped and murdered is not my idea of entertainment, cinema or art. I'm sure these circumstances have happened before in the world, but there's no need for this movie. I don't know how any of the actors could have stomached the script, let alone making the film. And I hope they're all ashamed from the outcome.
Adam Resurrected (2008)
Fade to black 'Wow!'
This is the best movie I have seen in a very long time. A completely intriguing script, with some really good acting. Jeff Golblum is playing a Jewish man and lands a powerful and extraordinary performance. Although he has faults at the beginning with the accent, he clearly improves during the movie. This is not a gruesome war movie. In fact, I didn't see one person murdered. It's a psychological drama that revolves around the tormented soul that Jeff Golblum portrays. A tragedy mixed with really dark humour that will keep your attention for the entirety of the film. It's rare that you see Hollywood actors doing such dark, confronting, art-house kind of movies, but this one works and I'm going to recommend it to lots of people.
Semi-Pro (2008)
I'm getting tired of saying...
if you like cheap and nasty...
Although this movie is entertaining and semi funny,(like my little pun I put in there?)it lacks any kind of evidence that anyone put thought into it... another Hollywood movie thats is wrecking Will Ferrell's reputation.
If your looking for a movie to watch when your mentally tired... this is the perfect pick. There is no thinking involved and you can summon enough energy to laugh at the jokes in it.
Andre Benjamin puts in a good performance - never once do you realize he's acting.
I did enjoy this movie - but I was severely disappointed when it came to my expectations of the movie.
Watch this movie when you have nothing better to do and you wont be disappointed.
Never Back Down (2008)
This movie was exactly what I expected...
This movie has good fight scenes.
None of the acting is particularly bad, but none is exceptionally good.
Watch this movie for the fight scenes and nothing more.
Extremely predictable script, but thats what I love about these kind of movies. You know whats coming and you want it to happen.
This movie is obviously directed at teenagers... and I would have loved it as one. Avoid this movie if your 40+ years of age... Cause you'll probably agree with the annoying, interfering and meddling mother in it.
Although this movie is action based... I laughed out loud a few times, smiled more than once and frowned in the way that says 'damn, that'd hurt'.
