It’s family first in The Baxters, Prime Video’s faith-driven drama based on the bestselling books from Karen Kingsbury. It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.

Exciting news for fans of The Diplomat!
The popular Netflix series starring Keri Russell as the US ambassador to the UK just announced that it's adding a major talent for its second season.
Producers revealed today that Alison Janney will be joining the cast in the role of Vice President Grace Penn.
Janney is no stranger to political drama, having starred in all seven seasons of NBC's The West Wing.
In more recent years, she starred on the CBS sitcom Mom and scored an Oscar nomination for her performance in I, Tonya.
The news that Netflix is willing to shell out to stack the Diplomat's roster shouldn't come as much of a surprise.
The streaming giant has been thirsting for a new prestige hit in the style of The Crown, and with its instant success among critics and audiences, The Diplomat might be the politically charged drama they've been waiting for.

Norman Lear, who recently passed away at the age of 101, transformed the network television sitcom in the 1970s by confronting America's cultural contentiousness head-on and daring viewers to laugh at a bigot like Archie Bunker on "All in the Family" or the white-folks-hating George Jefferson on "The Jeffersons." People were more than ready to accept this challenge. "All in the Family" was the top-rated show on television for six of its nine seasons, while "The Jeffersons" ranked in the top 10 for four of its remarkable 11 seasons. Along with "Good Times," "Sanford and Son," "Maude," "One Day at a Time" and "Diff'rent Strokes," Lear basically dominated the decade. It was a creative hot streak that's never been matched and one that Lear could never replicate.

A Real Doctor. A Real Director.
When you’re an accomplished woman, it’s common practice for your title to be questioned as fraudulent, as Dr. Jill Biden sadly experienced last week, the focus of a condescending piece written in the Wall Street Journal. In response, Michelle Obama tweeted, “We’re all seeing what happens to so many professional women, whether their titles are Dr., Ms., Mrs., or even First Lady: All too often, our accomplishments are met with skepticism, even derision. Frank Grillo and Jake Allyn will play father-and-son Texas ranchers in “No Man’s Land,” a modern Western drama from director Conor Allyn.
Allyn and David Barraza Ibañez penned the script, which is inspired by the real-life “no man’s land” between the U.S.- Mexico border on the Rio Grande and the U.S. “hard border” fences to the north.
At the center of the story is a father-son vigilante patrol, which is thrust into chaos after Jackson Greer (Allyn) accidentally kills an immigrant boy. When his father (Grillo) tries to take the blame, Jackson flees south on horseback, becoming a gringo “illegal alien” in Mexico. Chased by Texas Rangers and Mexican federales, Jackson embarks on a pilgrimage to seek forgiveness from the dead boy’s vengeful father (Jorge Jimenez) only to fall in love with the land he was taught to hate.

Will Packer made his reputation with such movies as “Girls Trip” but he’s moved into TV.
“We are content creators and I don’t want to be limited to one particular medium,” says Packer of his recent efforts in television.
LeVar Burton, an executive producer on History’s 2016 “Roots,” says he was impressed when he first met Packer, who also came aboard the miniseries as an executive producer.
“Will’s genuine expertise is his finger is on the pulse of the people,” Burton says. “Without question, community outreach was a critical part of our strategy of engagement, of finding an audience, of delivering an audience to the miniseries and Will’s knowledge and expertise and contacts in that regard were enormously valuable.”
Barry Jossen, executive vice president of A&E Studios, which produced the “Roots” remake, says Packer brought a voice of authenticity to the project. Jossen also recalls it...
