Quentin Tarantino is one of the most prolific filmmakers in Hollywood. The maverick director is known for films such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and the Kill Bill franchise. He is known for his particular brand of violent entertainers with a tribute to the films and TV shows he grew up with in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
In 2008, the filmmaker made one of his best-reviewed works Inglorious Basterds. The film saw a group of US soldiers infiltrating Nazi Germany during the Second World War. While Tarantino approached the subject with a revisionist history lens, he reportedly also wrote a segment in the original script that he wanted to turn into a spinoff film called Killer Crow.

The book is far from closed on Matthew Perry’s death
Over six months after the Friends star died and was laid to rest in LA’s Forest Lawn Memorial Park, the Los Angeles Police Department and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency are still looking into what happened last October.
“There is an open investigation with the DEA,” an LAPD spokesperson told Deadline today.
Found in a hot tub, Perry died October 28 at age 54 at his home in Los Angeles. On December 15, 2023, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office declared that Perry passed away from the “acute effects of ketamine.” The autopsy report also cited drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine — a drug used to treat opioid use disorder — as contributing to his death.
After confirming the joint investigation with the DEA earlier Tuesday,, the LAPD has just issued a more formal statement:

The idea of artists needing a “career reboot” often has as much to do with the petulant impatience of content-saturated fans than the actual situation of the artist in question. But in the case of Sia, the urgency of a course correction is hard to deny. Sia broke out from the ranks of top-level songwriters-for-hire in 2014 with the self-emptying party-kamikaze ginormity of “Chandelier.” Her 2017 album This is Acting was a concept record of sorts that repurposed songs she’d originally written with singers like Adele and Rihanna in mind, of...

Rule Number One: Never go on a private island with a billionaire you don’t know.
On Tuesday, Amazon MGM Studios released the trailer for Blink Twice, the directorial debut of Zoë Kravitz out Aug. 23, starring Channing Tatum as tech billionaire Slater King, who lures women to a creepy private island.
The trailer shows Naomi Ackie, a cocktail waitress named Friday, and Alia Shawkat being brought to the luxurious island where “things begin to go wrong,” according to a synopsis. The trailer starts with Tatum stating, “So… everybody is dead.

Monday’s Emmys ceremony paid tribute to late Friends star Matthew Perry — but in a night filled with nostalgic reunions, his Friends castmates were nowhere to be found.
The producers did reach out to Perry’s Friends co-stars to participate, but “it’s still very fresh for them,” executive producer Jeannae Rouzan-Clay tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We had talked about it early on,” executive producer Jesse Collins adds, “but I can imagine, from their side, they’re mourning someone who was still very close to them. I can’t speak for them, but we all have to respect that they were their own family.

Friends star Matthew Perry died from “acute effects of ketamine,” the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office said today. The autopsy report also cited drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine — a drug used to treat opioid use disorder — as contributing to his death.
Ketamine is a drug used recreationally that dulls pain, causes forgetfulness, intoxication, disassociation and euphoria. It is also increasingly used under medical supervision to treat depression.
The manner of death was ruled an accident. Perry died October 28 at his home in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles. He was 54.
Friends ran from 1994-2004, co-starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow. Perry played Chandler Bing on the Manhattan-set sitcom, which was one of the most-watched shows on U.S. primetime.

I watched Friends when it originally aired. I was in college in the 1990s, when the sitcom launched and became a cultural phenomenon. I carved Thursday nights out of my calendar, reserving the 8 p.m. hour for my Friends obsession, refusing to go out until after my weekly visit with Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Joey and Phoebe. I was experiencing many of the same things my Friends were: first love, first job and learning who I was — a little Ocd (Monica), deflecting (Chandler) and a dash responsible dork (Ross).

Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman spoke to Matthew Perry two weeks before his death, and recalled that the actor, who played the beloved Chandler Bing for 10 seasons on the hit NBC sitcom, was happy during the chat.
“It was great,” Kauffman said of the conversation during a joint virtual interview with Friends co-creator David Crane that aired on the Today show Wednesday. “He was happy and chipper. He didn’t seem weighed down by anything. He was in a really good place, which is why this seems so unfair.”
Kauffman says she was in “utter shock” upon hearing the news of his passing. “My first instinct was to text him, honestly,” she said. “And then deep sadness. So much sadness. It’s hard to grasp. One minute he’s here and happy and then poof. And doing good in the world. Really doing good in the world.”

For an entire generation, Matthew Perry was the personification of sublime wit and effortless ease with one-liners, thanks to his role as the hapless Chandler Bing on “Friends.”
Among the show’s male stars, Ross (David Schwimmer) was the goofy one and Joey (Matt LeBlanc) was the charming one. But Chandler, he was the witty one. And while ably aided by the NBC hit comedy’s writing, it was Perry’s masterful technique wringing as many laughs as possible out of a punchline that helped elevate the character into TV’s pantheon of all-time greats.
With his sudden death Saturday at age 54 following what appeared to be an accidental drowning, the world mourns the loss of a troubled actor who gave it so much joy and genuine laughter. In the wake of Matthew Perry's recent tragic passing at the age of 54, it's worth remembering that Perry was very much the heart of "Friends" throughout all 10 seasons. He had a specific brand of delivery and a unique role in the group. He wasn't as over-the-top as other sitcom staples, but he was the one who made the show what it was, raising it above the other sitcoms of its time. As /Film senior editor Jacob Hall noted, "Ross and Rachel got the headlines. But Chandler was the soul of 'Friends.'"
He didn't just help put the show on the map, but also helped keep it going strong long after most sitcoms would've run out of steam. Chandler's relationship with Courteney Cox's Monica, which came seemingly out of nowhere in the Season 4 finale, quickly escalated to become one of the show's central storylines. Part of why...

Airing just hours after news broke about Matthew Perry’s sudden death at age 54, NBC’s Saturday Night Live paid tribute to the Friends star with a card, which appeared before the episode’s curtain call.
As one of NBC’s biggest names during Friends‘ 10-year reign on the network, Perry hosted SNL on Oct. 4, 1997. Below is one of his bumper shots from the show.
In addition to his signature role as Chandler Bing, on NBC Perry also guest starred on Aaron Sorkin’s White House drama The West Wing and headlined Sorkin’s drama Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip, set behind the scenes of an SNL-like sketch comedy show, and comedy Go On.
Perry received Emmy nominations for both Friends (one) and The West Wing (2).

As an actor, Matthew Perry was nominated for four Emmys. He was a regular in the generation-defining ensemble smash Friends and, as a guest star, seamlessly integrated into the spectacular ensemble on shows like The West Wing and The Good Wife.
The show that best understood Perry’s sensibility and, more than that, the essence of what he projected best onscreen may not have been one of his signature successes, and may not be one of the first half-dozen shows that heartbroken fans look back on as we reflect on Perry, who died this weekend at 54. Empirically, it wasn’t a success at all.
Go On ran for 22 episodes on NBC between 2012 and 2013 and was canceled after that lone season. It has fans — any show with an ensemble that included Tyler James Williams, Laura Benanti, Brett Gelman, Sarah Baker, John Cho and more is going to find fans — but only a small audience.

Hundreds of WGA members stood outside Netflix’s headquarters in Hollywood, marching and chanting in an effort to bring more attention to their strike. Among them was Adam Conover.
“I’ve never done anything like this before,” said Conover, creator of HBO’s “The G Word” and host of “Adam Ruins Everything” from TruTV. “But, you know, this is my first action. There was a moment, you know, a week or two ago where I was like, ‘I don’t want to go on strike! There’s other shit I want to do! You know, I want to… I got my career I want to worry about. I got a podcast, I’m making videos, I want to pitch some TV shows. I don’t want to do this.’ None of us want to be here. Right?”

Early on in HBO Max’s long-awaited Friends reunion special “The One Where They Get Back Together,” series co-creator David Crane reveals the producing team’s initial vision for the show.
“We were really intrigued with the idea of doing a true ensemble. It’s not like there’s a lead and they have friends. No, it’s just about the friends. We’re following all of their stories equally.”
Friends would never have worked if Crane, Marta Kauffman, and Kevin Bright hadn’t gone six for six in the casting of the titular friends. One or two solid choices wouldn’t do it. Neither would four or five. It had to be all six.

For a TV critic with some, um, seniority, it is odd to go from covering Friends as a contemporary TV show to covering it as a nostalgia phenomenon. Piper Perabo has a Dreadful new TV role lined up: The Covert Affairs veteran has joined the cast of Showtime’s upcoming Penny Dreadful offshoot City of Angels.
The “sequel” series — first announced last November — will be set in 1938 Los Angeles, with Fear the Walking Dead alum Daniel Zovatto starring as a detective investigating a grisly murder. Perabo will recur as Linda Craft, wife of Dr. Peter Craft (played by Penny Dreadful‘s Rory Kinnear), who is “disappointed with her husband and bored with her constrained suburban life,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

There's a saying: just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you. Enter Murray Bauman, a former journalist who has been following the events of Stranger Things very closely, coming to Chief Hopper with all sorts of ideas about Eleven and Barb and a vast government conspiracy over the years. And he's not wrong, though Hopper can't tell him that (at least at first).
Now that we've reached season three and Murray is practically an integral part of the group, it's time to ask: who plays this bearded believer? It's Brett Gelman, one of those quintessential "Hey, it's that guy!" actors.
Gelman got his start doing improv and stand-up comedy in New York City. He quickly developed improv group Monkey D*ck, which went on to be developed into a limited-release TV show for the Upright Citizens Brigade. He also developed a character called Rapzilla for a couple of...

1. “Turn Up Charlie” (available March 15)
Why Should I Watch? Idris Elba made a TV show combining his two passions: acting and DJ’ing. Imagining John Luther strapping on a headset and bobbing his head to club bangers should be enough reason to watch, but if you need more, know Elba’s eponymous Charlie is not only a struggling disc jockey; he’s also the onscreen successor to Vin Diesel’s “Pacifier” and Kevin on “This Is Us” — a manny. When Charlie sees one last shot at stardom, he takes a gig watching his famous best friend’s daughter (played by Frankie Hervey), thus completing the sex symbol triumvirate: a DJ, a ladies’ man (it’s in the Netflix plot summary), and a responsible father figure.
Bonus Reason: To clarify, yes, Elba is a creator, producer, and star of “Turn Up Charlie,” but the eight-part first season also features a particularly under-utilized thespian: Piper Perabo.

As Dana Walden prepares to take over Disney TV Studios and ABC Entertainment, she’s found a new network lieutenant. Channing Dungey is out after nearly three years in the job; Karey Burke will serve as president of entertainment.
Burke was already inside Disney as head of original programming at Freeform; she takes over the ABC job immediately. Once Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox production assets is completed, Burke will report to Walden, the chairman of Disney TV Studios and ABC Entertainment.
The news isn’t a surprise, as Walden was expected to make changes to the Disney/ABC structure. It’s understood that Walden and Dungey aren’t close, and it wasn’t likely that they’d be working together. ABC said it was Dungey’s decision to step down from the role, and insiders noted that Dungey’s contract was coming up, and the exec was ready to try something new.

Former Dr. Ken star Suzy Nakamura has been cast in a lead role opposite Hugh Laurie in HBO’s comedy pilot Avenue 5 (tentative title), from Veep creator Armando Iannucci.
Created, written and executive produced by Iannucci, Avenue 5 is set in the future, mostly in space. Nakamura will play Iris Kimura, right-hand to the billionaire owner of the company behind the Avenue 5. She joins Laurie, who plays Ryan Clark, the charming and in-control American captain of Avenue 5.
HBO greenlighted the pilot last year, along with ordering backup scripts.
Nakamura starred opposite Ken Jeong on ABC comedy Dr. Ken. She’s also been a series regular on shows such as Go On opposite Matthew Perry, and Help Me Help You with Ted Danson. Her recurring roles include Black-ish, The Goldbergs, Modern Family and Men of a Certain Age and a guest-starring role as Anna in the “Mommy Meyer” episode of Iannucci’s Veep,...
