We’ve recently heard about Warner Bros.’ plans to produce Elseworlds-inspired limited series for HBO Max, including Batman: Gotham by Gaslight and Batman: White Knight. And according to our sources, the same ones who told us Ahsoka Tano will cameo on The Mandalorian season 2 and Han is coming back for Fast & Furious 9 – another one of these projects is Batman vs. Dracula. While things are only at an early stage of development, we know that these series will be set outside the Dceu and will feature different actors for Batman and other characters than their current incarnations.
The original Batman & Dracula Elseworlds limited runs were popular enough in the 1990s to merit three separate collections. Written by Doug Moench with pencils by Kelley Jones, the series sees the Dark Knight become a vampire in order to take on Count Dracula, who’s set up shop in Gotham City. However, Batman...

Katie McGrath was born on October 24, 1983 in Ashford, County Wicklow, Ireland. She attended Trinity College in Dublin and graduated in History. Katie never considered acting as a career. Her real interest was in fashion journalism. After graduation she worked for lifestyle and fashion magazine, Image. Katie's mother had a friend who was an assistant director on the TV series The Tudors (TV). This friend was instrumental in getting Katie a job as a wardrobe assistant on the series. While working on The Tudors (TV) Katie said "A couple of producers said I should give acting a try. I just thought, "Why not?" It's like running away to join the circus, everyone wants to do it when they're young but then you grow up and get a proper job." Taking their advise she sent her photographs to Irish agents. As a result, she landed the plum role of Morgana on the...

Menhaj Huda director of the acclaimed British street gang thriller Kidulthood is back with a new film…Comedown. Again set in London, his latest work is a tale of urban horror set against a contemporary London backdrop, of abandonment and decay. Six tearaway teenagers setting up a relay aerial for a local pirate radio station at the top of a condemned tower block, are targeted by a resident psychopath intent on exterminating the 'vermin' he perceives are besieging his home. Sounds a lot like a slasher horror to us! Currently still in pre-production, the film is set to star up and coming actor Martin Compston (Freakdog, The Damned United).

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: There’s an entirely new kind of barf joke here, so that’s something, I guess. Kambakkht Ishq: Rom-com about a Bollywood stuntman in Hollywood. He falls in love with Sandra Bullock, doesn’t he? [official site] Freakdog: Thriller set in the U.S. but filmed in Ireland. It isn’t often that I’ll watch low budget horror fare and go away thinking “that’s a pretty good film”, but tonight that’s exactly what I thought after popping Red Mist into the trusty DVD player.
Red Mist (or “Freakdog” in the States) is directed by “Shrooms” helmer Paddy Breathnach and stars Arielle Kebbel (”The Uninvited”, “Gilmore Girls”), Andrew Lee Potts (”Primeval”, “Ideal”), Alex Wyndham (”Little Dorrit”, “Rome”) and Colin Stinton (”House of Saddam”, “The Bourne Ultimatum”), the film hits UK theatres on 3rd July 2009.
The medical students at Forthaven General Hospital study hard and party harder, until a cruel prank accidentally puts the facility’s creepy janitor into a deep coma. But when one responsible student tries to revive the degenerate loner with an experimental injection, she instead sends his brainwaves berserk. Will a sudden spree of sick kicks now claim the guilty one-by-one, or has...

This is easily one of the best weeks for DVD releases we've seen in a long while in fact, as I write this, I realize that this post almost works to recap of a lot of the high points of last years cinematic offerings. So, I suggest you grab a coffee and take a few minutes to just digest all the great titles, read some of our past reviews, and look at some trailers before you take a trip through any of the amazon links and start browsing.
First and foremost, we've got Fernando Meirelles' somewhat controversial adaptation of Blindness (review) hitting store shelves. Many people Loved this film ,and in a lot of ways I really like it as well. It certainly pulls no punches and all the actors are amazing (particularly Julian Moore) but there was still something about the movie that felt unfinished and small (not "intimate" mind you,...

It's easy to become a blathering mess around Arielle Kebbel. She's gorgeous. I'll just get that out of the way. But she's not unapproachable. She's the antithesis of that. Her smile sets you at ease, corrects the fuzziness growing in your head which allows you to speak understandable sentences. Luckily, coherent words give way to a pleasant fifteen minute interview when I meet Kebbel at a Westwood hotel. It's December and she's cramming in a bit of press for her supernatural thriller The Uninvited ( review ) before Hollywood breaks for the holidays. The film marks her fourth genre outing after Reeker , The Grudge 2 and next month's DVD release Freakdog . In The Uninvited , a remake of A Tale of Two Sisters , Kebbel is Alex, a young woman whose sibling, Anna (Emily...

Her recovery suffers a setback when she discovers her father has become engaged to her mothers former nurse, Rachel. That night, Anna is visited by her mother's ghost, who warns her of Rachel's intentions. "High five!" smiles actress Arielle Kebbel, raising her hand, when I confess I'm happy to see Paddy Breathnach's UK horror movie Red Mist is retaining it's original title instead of its second, temporary, moniker Freakdog . She agrees, the latter name simply did not fit. We're sitting at the Palomar Hotel talking about her turn in the theatrical release The Uninvited , but our conversation has segued to the other genre fare we'll see her in quite soon, including Red Mist , an Anchor Bay DVD release. In the film, a group of medical students pull a prank on a janitor, sending him into a coma. But he exacts revenge from his hospital bed when one of the students injects him with an experiment drug to revive him. Sarah Carter, Stephen Dillane, Andrew Lee Potts,...

The toughest thing about visiting the American Film Market is finding time to squeeze in as many movies as humanly possible before your head explodes from retinal abuse. At this year’s 29th annual Afm, held November 5-12 in Santa Monica, CA, I watched 25 movies in seven days, and I still couldn’t squeeze in everything I wanted to see.
I had to sacrifice the Brit gorefest Mum & Dad and Combat Shock director Buddy Giovinazzo’s Life Is Hot In Cracktown, sadly. And I’m withholding judgment on Jamie (Urban Legend) Blanks’ Long Weekend remake until I watch the original on DVD.
Ok, I covered the travelogue and business stuff already (see here). You’re more interested in the movies, right? Well, here are my capsule comments on some upcoming fright fare that I got an early gander at. For more information on the Afm, go here.

Anchor Bay just sent out a press release announcing their acquisition of Paddy Breathnatch’s Shrooms (DVD review) follow-up, Red Mist (aka Freakdog). The Bay will be putting Red Mist on DVD come February 10th, 2009.
For those unsure, Red Mist is the tale of a deranged and tormented employee of a hospital who is accidentally put into a coma when some med students go too far. Wracked by guilt, one girl administers an untested cocktail of drugs to the victim, but instead of waking him up they allow him to take over other people’s bodies to enact his revenge, and with every body jump he gets even stronger.
The DVD will come with a “making of” featurette, an interview with star Arielle Kebbel and a casting featurette. Why they’re keeping the Red Mist title instead of the much more bizarre Freakdog is anyone’s guess, but I’m sure they have their reasons!

While checking out the listings on the Frightfest website, I noticed they have the first ever poster for Paddy Breathnach's Freakdog.
The tale of man using his out-of-body experience to kill those who put him into a coma will be playing on Friday, August 22nd, alongside Trailer Park of Terror, Mum & Dad and Time Crimes to name a few.
What really caught my eye was the appearance of a cool indie zombie flick I got to review last year called Bubba's Chili Parlor (review), which is also being shown at the film festival. That's pretty awesome considering Frightfest isn't showing very many low budget independent flicks at all this year. Good job, Joey Evans and the Bubba's crew!

Inside you'll find the first teaser poster for Paddy Breathnach's (Shrooms) latest horror venture, Freakdog, which will premiere at the Frightfest UK this month. A young doctor in a Us hospital administers a powerful and untested cocktail of drugs to a coma victim. But instead of curing him, it triggers a powerful "out-of-body" experience and enables the patient - a depraved and dangerous loner - to inhabit other people's bodies and, through them, take revenge on the bullying medical students who were accidentally responsible for his condition. The doctor, who was herself a part of this group, is also targeted and as her colleagues are singled out and relentlessly picked off, she realises that she can trust no-one - friend or stranger - as this comatose killer moves in and out of bodies at will, getting ever closer as his murderous supernatural powers increase.

Well, Paddy Breathnach's Freakdog isn't exactly what we thought it would be about. The plot synopsis we got before turns out to be off just a tad. That's not a bad thing, and the trailer looks like it may hit all the right spots as far as revenge movies are concerned.
Thanks to the new trailer that showed up on YouTube, we now know that our main antagonist, Kenny, isn't just some perv but a poor sap who isn't too good with the ladies. Too bad he suffers some kind of a seizure while chugging some booze and cracks his head on the floor in front of his new friends and possible love interest.
Kenny may be in a coma, but he isn't totally trapped. What better way to get in some chick's pants than via an out-of-body experience!

As more news comes out regarding Shrooms (review) director Paddy Breathnach's latest project, I can't help but wonder why the film's name got changed. Now that we have more of the plot details, the original title seems to fit a whole lot better.
But before we get to the plot, Film Fright Fest got in the first official pictures for Breathnach's new horror feature Freakdog (Aka Red Mist). Not a whole lot going on in these pics, but I'll take a half naked hottie any day! But where are the freak dogs or mists tinted red? Confusion!
