The notorious Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss took their game to the next level with 3 Body Problem, their latest hard sci-fi TV show that recently premiered on Netflix. While D&d are getting props and great reviews from everyone, the celebrated author Stephen King has a little something to say about it, too — but it’s not just sheer praise from the King of Horror.
In fact, the famous writer largely preferred the previous adaptation that went criminally overlooked in America.
King Defends the Superior Adaptation
Much like everyone else, Stephen King recently jumped into the 3 Body Problem wagon thanks to the Netflix adaptation. But upon watching it, the author had to point out that, while Benioff and Weiss’s version is good, it has nothing on the earlier 2023 Chinese adaptation called Three-Body. Most people didn’t even know about it!

"House of the Dragon" was always going to live in the shadow of "Game of Thrones." The big question was how effectively it could operate in that shadow, and if it could carve out its own identity while weathering constant comparisons to the series that spawned it. The show's first season was an often remarkable proof of concept — yes, this was another show set in author George R.R. Martin's fantasy kingdom of Westeros, but it had its own flavor, its own tone. Spanning decades (and recasting several key characters halfway through the season as they aged up), it was a show operating at a sprint, hungry to prove itself, and hungry to prove itself entirely self-reliant, that it is its own show.
The funny thing about the long-awaited second season of "House of the Dragon," after all that grand distance established in the first outing, is how much it feels like "Game of Thrones.

Very few shows have ever caught my attention the way the world of Game of Thrones has the opening title sequence. The music hits, sending chills down my spine, knowing I am ready to be engulfed in this world of lies and deceit. We’ve waited close to two years to reenter the world of Westeros, but House of the Dragon has returned for a second season, and I’ve got so much to say about it.
House of the Dragon Season 2 Plot
King Viserys Targaryen’s death sent shockwaves through Westeros as a succession plan backfired in the face of Princess Thaenyra. Westeros is on the brink of a bloody civil war between the Black and Green Councils, fighting for Queen Rhaenyra and King Aegon, respectively.

On House of the Dragon, there are prominent characters named Rhaenyra, Rhaenys, and Rhaena. There’s an Alicent and also an Alys. There are identical twins named Arryk and Erryk (both pronounced like “Eric”). There are references to multiple characters named Jaehaerys, and there’s also a Jacaerys, whose nickname is Jace, though you shouldn’t confuse him with a different character named Jason. And did I mention that Jason also has an identical twin?

The opening lines of “House of the Dragon” Season 2 stem from a character I’m not meant to name speaking of things that have no real bearing in the “Game of Thrones” universe. “Duty is sacrifice,” the man says. (I hope I can say he’s a man.) “It eclipses all things, even blood. All men of honor must pay its price.” Sorry to interrupt, good sir, but who are these “men of honor” you speak of? Are they hiding? Is HBO saving them for the next spinoff? Some are certainly dead, given the body count on which George R.R. Martin has built his brutal world, but there are scant few in “HotD” who fit the description. To be fair, the narrating man qualifies, and his colleagues also appear to be living a principled existence. But having seen nine seasons of heartless betrayals and maniacal power grabs, simply recognizing one...

The hectic inaugural season of House of the Dragon covered roughly 20 years as the long-standing peace under King Viserys came to an end. In the season’s final two episodes, the series found its footing, establishing the parallel claims to the throne between the Black faction that follows Viserys’s appointed heir, daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), and the Green faction under Rhaenyra’s former best friend, Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), who follow Alicent and Viserys’s young, impetuous son Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney).
All the table setting and time jumping that dominated the better part of the first season have, perhaps inevitably, set the stage for a much stronger second season for House of the Dragon. It’s also, especially for a Game of Thrones property, surprisingly restrained. The first four episodes made available to press cover only a few weeks, and the entire opening episode, “A Son for a Son,...

While a spiritual successor to Game of Thrones in many aspects from the general setting to political scheming as a crucial part of the plot, House of the Dragon has many noticeable distinctions from its mother show. However, the upcoming Season 2 will get rid of some of them, “leaning into the Game of Thrones formula,” star claims.
HotD Always Felt Smaller Than GoT
Perhaps the biggest and most obvious distinction between the two TV shows is their character roster. Game of Thrones followed multiple characters from different dynasties and origins, located at time across the world from each other — whereas House of the Dragon focuses solely on the Targaryen dynasty as its title implies.
This far more modest selection of main characters comes with its own consequences: namely, the fact that HotD doesn’t really show its viewers Westeros.

In the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, relationships are a flaming disaster. As these suppressed emotions finally start to surface, the Targaryen dynasty plunged into civil war. However, some interactions slipped right under our noses, one of which was between dowager Queen Alicent and her protector Criston Cole, which might surprise a lot.

Every. Season. Counts.
The Bear's renewal for simultaneously filmed third and fourth seasons was sweet dad-rock music to the ears of critics and audiences alike.
After sweeping the Emmys and benefiting from word-of-mouth buzz around its Christmas-themed episode "Fishes," the show was practically guaranteed renewal to give us at least one more season with the volatile and tight-knit Berzattos.
An Interesting Experiment
Capitalizing on the moment by filming back-to-back seasons was a smart move for the series and might become a trend for other shows.
Logistically it makes sense to take advantage of utilizing a show's cast and crew for two seasons in one go, instead of having to align all of those schedules again in another eighteen months or so.
In the current landscape of surprise cancellations, it also makes creative sense for a show to film a multi-season arc without the worry of ending on a cliffhanger.

BMI Celebrates ‘Game of Thrones’ Composer Ramin Djawadi With Icon Honor at Annual Film and TV Awards
“Game of Thrones” composer Ramin Djawadi was honored with the BMI Icon Award at Broadcast Music Inc.’s 40th annual Film, TV and Visual Media Awards Wednesday night in Beverly Hills.
The Emmy-winning, Grammy-nominated composer was acknowledged for his “memorable scores and themes inspiring future generations of composers,” BMI president-ceo Mike O’Neill said in presenting the award.
Djawadi’s music for “Game of Thrones” became a sensation during the HBO fantasy series’ eight-season run, which concluded in 2019. He won two Emmys, for his music in the seventh and eighth seasons, and later conducted it with symphony orchestras and choirs during world tours in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
His other television credits include “Westworld,” “Prison Break” and the current fantasy and sci-fi series “House of the Dragon,” “3 Body Problem” and “Fallout.” Among his film credits are “Iron Man,” “Eternals,” “A Wrinkle in Time,” “Clash of the Titans” and “Pacific Rim,” and he has...

“Will operates from a place of such immense love and clarity, which I think is often common with people who are dealing with facing their own mortality,” reveals “3 Body Problem” star Alex Sharp. For our recent webchat about portraying Will Downing, a brilliant scientist diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, Sharp recounts a day on set when “there was a line that was ended up being cut. In the bar scene at the beginning of the season, where Jack makes a comment to Will about something to do with him giving up and just being a teacher, Will responds, ‘don’t you think there’s something really noble about dedicating your life to the future?'” he recalls, adding, “that’s just Will. Then you put that person in the position of being terminally ill and it’s like almost a microcosm or metaphor for what humanity is dealing with.

“House of the Dragon” showrunner Ryan Condal describes the second season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel as a “cold war in process.”
“And that’s really because of the dragons,” Condal told Variety at the Season 2 premiere Monday night in New York City. “Everybody’s terrified of launching mutually assured destruction and burning down the kingdom that they’re trying to rule over.”
“House of the Dragon” Season 2 will continue to chronicle the royal succession civil war, known as the Dance of Dragons, between two rival factions of House Targaryen: the greens and the blacks.

After the long wait of nearly two years, our favorite epic fantasy political drama is back, and this time with even more dragons. It has been more than five years since Game of Thrones ended and no other series has been able to replace the hole it left in the television space until its prequel series House of the Dragon came out to reclaim its fans and apologize to its fans for the terrible Season 8 of Got. Now we are finally getting the second season of the fan-favorite HBO series.

How long will HBO's TV adaptation of "The Last of Us" last? We're finally inching closer to an answer. With only two primary video games serving as the source material, fans (myself included) have been wondering if the show would pull a "Game of Thrones" and end up pushing beyond the story laid out in the games. We saw what happened when HBO and the "Thrones" creatives made that decision, but we can breathe easy: That won't happen here.
In an interview with Deadline, "The Last of Us" game creator Neil Druckmann and his co-showrunner Craig Mazin said the show will not include stories that go beyond the endpoint established in the second game. "As a fan, I'm thrilled that there might be a third 'Last of Us' game. As the co-creator of this television show, there's no world where I would want our show to go beyond the source...

Exclusive: It’s a case of good news-bad news for The Last of Us fans who have been patiently waiting more than a year for new episodes of HBO’s award-winning drama adaptation based on the acclaimed video game. When Season 2 finally arrives in 2025, it will be shorter than Season 1, consisting of seven episodes. But the good news is that a potential third season will be “significantly larger” and possibly bigger in scope, and there could very well be a Season 4 coming behind it according to series co-creators, executive producers, showrunners and directors Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. Plus, one of the Season 2 episodes will be “quite big” in length.
The size of the Season 2 order was hinted at in January when Deadline revealed the lineup of the season’s seven directors, including Mazin and Druckmann. The duo arrived at the number of episodes after careful consideration.

Matt Smith may play a fan-favorite Targaryen right now, but there was another Targaryen descendant who has always had fan support for being the best Game of Thrones character. Fans may get riled up for that exact reason at Smith’s recent comments on who would win a battle between Daemon Targaryen and Jon Snow. Smith shared that Daemon would emerge victorious over Kit Harington’s Jon Snow in such a scenario.
Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon | HBO
Such a fight would never take place in the Game of Thrones universe because of the 200-year gap between the storylines. However, Smith shared that his character’s ownership of the large red dragon Caraxes would make him a clear winner over Jon Snow.

Like the experimental “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” before it, upcoming horror movie The Run will be taking an interactive approach, allowing You to decide the outcome of events.
Deadline reports today that Roxanne McKee (“Game of Thrones”) and George Blagden (“Vikings”) will star in The Run, which will be directed by Paul Raschid (Ten Dates).
The site details, “The interactive element will involve the viewer being asked to make high-stakes decisions for the protagonist at various points throughout the story that will affect the direction of the narrative and in some cases, result in early death.”
Here’s the plot synopsis for The Run: “The story is set on a remote running trail, where a famous fitness influencer’s morning run becomes a race for survival when she is hunted by seemingly motiveless killers. She meets local farmer Matteo along the way and the viewer’s choices determine whether they live or die.

Launched back in 2011, a fantasy drama show Game of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin’s book series A Song of Ice and Fire, was quick to become a whole new phenomenon on modern TV, and one can hardly ignore the epic series’ influence on the way the industry has transformed by adapting to its viewers’ high standards.
Despite its compelling storyline and all the variety of characters, Game of Thrones is still a somewhat synonym to the extreme violence that has accompanied its plot till the very end, though it seems that the show has been violent not only to its characters, but also to another successful HBO series.

Greatness in writing comes in different forms, and two shining examples of this virtue are prolific authors Stephen King and George R.R. Martin. While King is popularly known as the ‘King of Horror’ for his masterful depiction of narratives in the genre like The Shining, Martin is the bonafide genius of fantasy with Game Of Thrones.

The first season of House of the Dragon did an outstanding job of rounding up everything we’ve grown to appreciate about the Game of Thrones franchise. Dragons, without a doubt, shined brightly, but the show’s most significant components were emotions such as love, passion, desire, sadness, and dread, as well as violence and betrayal. And there will be loads of everything we’ve mentioned so far in Season 2.
Emma D’Arcy teases turmoil in Daemon-Rhaenyra’s relationship
As Westeros gets embroiled under the shadows of war, Daemon and Rhaenyra’s relationship takes a hit. D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra is grieving after the death of her father and son. In a recent interview with Av Club, D’Arcy explained, “I don’t know if they can find solace in each other in the losses. I don’t feel like Daemon can share his experience of losing his brother, so there is a dislocation taking place.

TV's best and most passionate breakdowns are occasionally subtle and often legendary.
They're the culmination of the negative, the positive, or simply the need for upheaval in an otherwise flat character arc -- a self-destruction so piteous as to seem irredeemable.
Sometimes, this act affects others as well.
Naturally, the on-screen breakdown is the culmination of psychological stressors, whether self-induced or brought on by binge-watching The Brady Bunch Variety Hour.
It's often difficult to watch without empathy, especially in characters we've grown to love and even in some we love to hate.
After all, the most intense breakdowns are all too often close to home and personal to the viewers.
It's easier to empathize with Walter White's failure to find the money to pay Saul in Breaking Bad if you've ever misplaced a hundred-dollar bill in the couch cushions.
The closer a TV series parallels real life, the more we can empathize with the characters.

The fact that Matt Smith has been in three of the most well-known franchises in the world is proof of his extraordinary acting talent. He has seen the best and the worst of it all, whether it was the mysterious former Doctor Who, a Marvel villain in Morbius, or an insane Prince Daemon Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. He recently recalled meeting Kit Harington, during the early days of Game of Thrones.
Matt Smith met Kit Harington at Sdcc 2013
In his recent visit to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Smith reminisced about meeting Kit Harington when he was fresh into portraying Jon Snow on Game of Thrones. The duo met at Sdcc in 2013 when Smith was playing Doctor Who. Smith reminisced:

By the end of House Of The Dragon’s first season, the Game Of Thrones prequel series exploring the Targaryen civil war had set up an almighty clash of queens. Emma D’Arcy’s rightful ruler Rhaenyra had been denied the throne by childhood-friend-turned-mother-in-law (it’s complicated) Alicent Hightower; in a colossal misunderstanding, Alicent has come to believe it was King Viserys’ final wish for Alicent’s line to take the throne, rather than the daughter he long championed for the job. Throw in that one of Rhaenyra’s kids has been chomped by a hungry dragon – at the hand of one of Alicent’s sprogs, no less – and the stage is set for all-out war.
Heading into Season 2, neither Alicent nor Rhaenyra is ready to back down. “Alicent’s at the height of her power,” Cooke teases of the upcoming episodes. “She’s dealing with the task she thinks Viserys gave her,...

The comic book The Boys was created through the pioneering efforts of authors Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson who turned a hugely popular genre on its head with their bold satirical take on superheroes. While these characters were viewed as Gods and revered for their impeccable abilities and qualities that they used for good, The Boys dealt with equally powerful heroes who abuse these powers.

The 2019 show developed by Eric Kripke for Amazon Prime became an instant hit, and had fans completely invested in these deliciously diabolical characters. Interestingly, the series which was also meant to take a lighthearted dig at Marvel and DC, has become a cult franchise in itself. With Season 4 due to release soon and Season 5 on the way, Kripke was fully aware that meticulous planning was now required to maintain the reputation of the show.

The Game of Thrones series finale was one of the most controversial endings in TV history. The HBO fantasy series saw many prominent character arcs sacrificed in favor of a sensational ending, leading to many fans’ ire. Even the final battle with the White Walkers that the season teased was done away with by episode 3.
However, author George R.R. Martin, whose books inspired the show had a completely different plan for the story’s ending. In a letter to his publisher about the outline of A Song of Ice and Fire, the writer described what he planned to do with the series and spoke about the climax, which sounds much better than what the show ended up making.

House of the Dragon is returning for Season 2 and the cast is teasing what viewers can expect when the show returns to HBO on June 16.
Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, and Matt Smith talked to Deadline and teased what is ahead for the fantasy drama, with Smith revealing that the show will be more like its older sibling.
For Cooke, who plays Queen Alicent Hightower, returning for the second season of the George R.R. Martin-created series was like a homecoming.
“We know the characters inside out, and we’re sort of going back home, in a way,” Cooke told us. “We’re not afraid of the text or afraid of the big sets that are sort of home away from home.”
Cooke teases that in Season 2, Queen Alicent Hightower leaves the castle with the actor saying, “That was huge for me. I went to Spain. I went to Wales and I went to Surrey.

What is mankind without science? The thought-provoking question is one of the themes in “3 Body Problem,” an eight-episode Netflix series from “Game of Thrones” creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff and “True Blood” scribe Alexander Woo. Adapted from author Cixin Liu’s “Remembrance of Earth’s Past” trilogy, the material follows a group of scientists who attempt to save humanity from a technologically advanced alien race known as the San-Ti. What it meant for the creative team was developing a distinct visual aesthetic capable of reaching the far ends of the galaxy, yet one delicate enough to support the emotional dilemmas each character faced.

After building its characters’ relationships in season one, season two of HBO’s House of the Dragon will see its leads flung across Westeros — much to the disappointment of its close-knit cast.
The second season of the Game of Thrones prequel will continue to chronicle the House Targaryen civil war, as Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) and their Dragonstone forces face off against Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and her children for claim of the Iron Throne. But that means the stars were often off shooting their own individual storylines this year, rather than group scenes together.

The cast is currently busy with promotional tours, and the show’s alum Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower) paid a visit to the Venom-verse somewhere in between.

What is Venom 3 about?
Credits: Sony
The third installment of Sony’s Venom series is also supposedly its last. The trailer picks up right after MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Rhys Ifans appeared as his The Amazing Spider-Man character, Kurt Conners/the Lizard. Venom appears in the post-credit scene of that movie, and it seems like he just managed to hop back to his universe. However, things are worse here as Venom reveals his kind has launched an attack on Earth.
