Our beloved orange tabby Persian cat Garfield is back on the big screen after a long while with Chris Pratt voicing the character in The Garfield Movie. However, things were far from good which eventually affected the project at the global box office as it garnered negative reviews from critics and audiences alike.

While there’s still time for the movie to head to its streaming debut, it was unable to bring the same success that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish gained after its release two years ago.
What Went Wrong With Chris Pratt’s The Garfield Movie?
Sony’s The Garfield Movie has met with an underwhelming response from audiences and critics alike, leading to it becoming a disappointing project from what it was initially intended. One of the reasons that led to that outcome is the lead voice actor himself.

Consider what we know about Garfield the cat: He’s orange, a little plump, he loves lasagna, he hates Mondays, and — ah, well, that’s about it. Enough information to fill about four comic strip panels, wouldn’t you say? And yet, somehow, this lazy kitty and his very mild exploits have inspired three television series (with one more on the way), a dozen prime-time specials, and three feature-length films.
While previous cinematic iterations of Garfield’s story have stretched his adventures to wacky ends — the 2004 “Garfield: The Movie” essentially acted as an origin story, while its 2006 sequel “Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties” put a “Prince and the Pauper”-ish twist on his life — the latest in a long, looooooong line of Garfield adaptations goes in the opposite direction. The summer movie season could use some help, and Chris Pratt might just be here to save the day. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Jurassic World" actor returns to the silver screen next weekend in "The Garfield Movie," an animated take on Jim Davis' orange, Monday-hating cat. For Sony Pictures, there is one big question; can some of that Pratt magic that made "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" ($1.36 billion worldwide) such a major hit last year rub off on this one? Even a fraction of that magic would be most welcome here.
"The Garfield Movie" is opening directly against George Miller's "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga." While the animated, family-friendly film would typically have the edge, it looks like "Furiosa" is going to win the weekend in the early going, with an opening between $46.5 and $59 million. But that doesn't mean this cat is out of luck, as Sony...

Joe Pasquale has a Pampers advert and Bob Hoskins to thank for landing a role in 2006’s Garfield movie: more here.
If you’re reading this from the UK, then you may already be acquainted with the work of comedian Joe Pasquale, whose all-but-trademarked squeaky voice is a distinctive part of his act. It’s also a voice that’s earned him a lot of professional voiceover work, and one of those jobs many moons ago was for a nappy advert.
As he explained on the Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast, he was hired to do one particular Pampers campaign with the late Bob Hoskins. Unusually, the pair were to sit in a recording booth together, rather than record their lines separately. Yet as Pasquale explained, Hoskins didn’t believe the sound coming out of his co-star was quite right. “That voice… I’ve never heard it come...

A lasagna-loving feline is returning to the big screen next year. Sony Pictures released The Garfield Movie trailer Monday, giving fans their first look at Chris Pratt’s version of the beloved orange feline. The trailer begins with a hungry, wide-eyed young Garfield stumbling across a man sitting by himself in a pizza parlor. When the man invites him in, they end up sharing a bite of pizza — and if you know Garfield, you know it didn’t end there. The one bite leads to a montage of Garfield devouring the rest of the pie,...

The trailer for The Garfield Movie has now made its online debut. Sony Pictures Animation is bringing to life one of the most famous lazy felines in the world. The last time Garfield had graced the silver screen was in 2006’s Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, the sequel to 2004’s Garfield, which featured Bill Murray as the titular voice that originated with Lorenzo Music, who poetically also voiced the Bill Murray role in The Real Ghostbusters. Famously, Murray had admitted to taking the role under the mistaken assumption that he was working with one of the Coen brothers (the movie was written by Joel Cohen – unrelated to the beloved duo).

Chris Pratt embodies the world’s most sarcastic yet endearing orange feline in the trailer for “The Garfield Movie,” premiering in theaters on May 24, 2024.
The new animated feature introduces new characters to comic creator Jim Davis’ universe, including Samuel L. Jackson as Vic, Garfield’s father. Both Pratt and Jackson have been honing their voice acting chops, with Jackson playing another animated cat in “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank” and Pratt portraying Mario in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”
In the trailer for “The Garfield Movie,” Pratt’s lovable fat cat explains how he adopted his owner, John. Before he dives into a tray of lasagna, he warns the audience, “I apologize in advance. The eating you’re about to see will not be pretty. And if you have young children, this would be a good time for them to leave the room.”

Mondays beware because Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, and Cecily Strong are joining the cast of Alcon Entertainment‘s Garfield movie. Chris Pratt and Samuel L. Jackson also star in the film, which Mark Dindal is directing.
It should come as no surprise that Alcon’s Garfield movie is based on Jim Davis’ celebrated comic strip focusing on an orange, lazy, lasagna-loving feline, his owner, Jon Arbuckle, and Jon’s pet dog Odie. When Garfield isn’t making life a living hell for Jon and his canine companion, he waxes rhapsodic about the world, his perpetual hunger, and hatred of Mondays. Plot details about Alcon’s Garfield movie are unknown at this time. However, we know Pratt is voicing the iconic cat while Jackson is playing Garfield’s father, Vic.

After more than 15 years, America’s most iconic cat is finally returning to the big screen.
In 2024, we’re looking forward to the release of “Garfield,” the long-awaited film starring Jim Davis’ iconic comic strip character. The movie will, incredibly, be the first fully-animated theatrical project starring the lasagna-eating grouch, who first appeared in newspaper comic sections in 1978. Although the franchise has remained enormously popular in the decades since its launch, Garfield’s only theatrical films were two live action/CGI projects starring Bill Murray as the character. After the second film, “A Tale of Two Kitties,” bowed in 2006, the franchise remained off the bigscreen for years, in favor of direct-to-dvd films and television shows.
News of Garfield’s animated return first broke in 2016, when Alcon Entertainment secured the exclusive rights to developing animated features based on the character. Although the project remained dormant for several years, 2021 saw an uptick in news about the film,...

The world’s most famous fat cat is coming to theaters soon. “Garfield,” an animated film starring Chris Pratt as the famous Jim Davis comic strip character, will premiere in theaters Feb. 16, 2024.
In addition to Pratt, the film will also star Samuel L. Jackson as a brand-new character to the Garfield universe, Vic, who is the father of the orange feline. The plot that will bring Garfield’s father back into his life remains under wraps. Although no other cast members have been announced, the film will presumably feature classic characters from the franchise, including his owner Jon Arbuckle and dim-witted puppy Odie.
The animated movie represents the latest big screen outing for the iconic lasagna-loving misanthrope. Bill Murray famously voiced the character in two live-action and CGI-hybrid films, 2004’s “Garfield: The Movie” and its 2006 sequel “Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties.” The two films received largely negative reviews, but were both commercially successful.

And just like that, winter has come again. HBO Max’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by the return of the king. Or more accurately: the return of the queen … of the Seven Kingdoms.
Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Aug. 21, just over three years after Game of Thrones concluded in controversial fashion with “The Iron Throne.” This new series is a prequel, depicting the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons from George R.R. Finally, a Monday that Garfield can feel good about. On the lasagna-loving cat’s least favorite day of the week, Chris Pratt has been set to voice the famous feline in a new animated feature film.
Alcon Entertainment is producing the movie, with Sony Pictures on board to release Garfield’s latest adventure in theaters globally (excluding China). A release date will be announced at another time.
Though plot details haven’t been confirmed, the movie draws inspiration from the long-running comic strip created by cartoonist Jim Davis. The exploits of the cynical and lazy orange cat Garfield, his owner Jim Arbuckle and fellow pet Odie have appeared in more than 2,580 newspapers and journals since the comic strip first debuted in June 1978. Garfield currently holds the record for being the most widely syndicated comic strip in the world.
The still-untitled project will be written by David Reynolds (“Finding Nemo”) and directed by Mark Dindal.

Garfield follows a cynical and lazy orange cat of the same name and his interactions with his owner, Jon Arbuckle, along with his fellow pet, Odie. The comic strip from cartoonist Jim Davis debuted in June of 1978 and appeared early on in 41 newspapers, though it would ultimately feature in 2,580 newspapers and journals, with an estimated readership of 260 million. To this day, it remains the most widely syndicated comic strip in the world.

You know what they say: when God (or Kevin Feige) closes the door on one Disney+ Marvel series, he opens the door on another. Disney+’s list of new releases for March 2021 is highlighted by a changing of the guard for Marvel TV shows.
The highly successful and fun Marvel Disney+ premiere WandaVision will wrap up its run on Friday, March 5. The following week will see an intriguing making-of doc called Assembled premiere. Then on March 19, Marvel’s next TV effort, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will finally arrive. It’s been a long wait for the latest chapter of Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson but we’ll get to see them carry on Cap’s legacy soon enough.

As the year winds down, streaming services appear to be taking a step back, licking their wounds from this strange pandemic production season, and looking to a hopefully brighter future. This is all to say that Hulu‘s list of new releases for December 2020 isn’t quite its most inspiring batch yet…and that’s Ok.
Hulu’s biggest original title this month is undoubtedly The Hardy Boys. This adaptation of the classic boy detective novels is aimed at younger audiences and will premiere on Dec. 4. Then, near the end of the month, Hulu is bringing a new season of a show that is decidedly not for younger audiences. Season 9 of the very funny and very Canadian Letterkenny arrives on Dec. 26.
Hulu also has some recent movies of note coming in December including Amy Seimetz’s diabolical She Dies Tomorrow on Dec. 4 and children’s movie The Secret Garden on Dec.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, as the various streaming services are stocking their libraries with some great new titles this December to keep us going through the festive period. When it comes to Hulu, the Disney-owned platform is adding a few holiday-related movies and TV shows, but is mostly taking the track of stuffing itself full of classic films that the whole family can enjoy.
This includes a bunch of the best James Bond pics ever made, like GoldenEye, The Spy Who Loved Me, Goldfinger and, the one that kicked it all off, Dr. No. That would be a perfect watch to honor Sean Connery, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Other action movies you might want to check out this December, meanwhile, include The Hurt Locker, The Fifth Element, 2003’s Hulk and the two “Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon” flicks, The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons.

As if 2020 wasn’t already weird enough, the family comedy The War with Grandpa, starring Robert De Niro and directed by Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties filmmaker Tim Hill, has dethroned Christopher Nolan‘s sci-fi action blockbuster Tenet from the top spot on the box office charts. At this point in his career, Robert De Niro has nothing left to prove. If he were to retire tomorrow, the 77-year-old movie star would still have two Oscars, too many classic American movies on his resumé to count, a greatest-of-his-generation éminence grise status and a legion of pretenders to the Method-immersive throne. Give him a good director (David O. Russell), or a great one (Martin Scorsese), and the gent can still bring his A game well into his autumn years. No one would — well, ok, we won’t — judge him for deciding,...

“The War with Grandpa” opens with a feisty encounter between Robert De Niro and a supermarket scanner. The supermarket has eliminated all its cashiers, and De Niro’s Ed, a senior citizen who wants to check out his cart full of groceries, can’t get the beeping, Siri-voiced scanner to cooperate, which leaves him testy in all the familiar yet agreeably scowling and disgruntled De Niro ways. He winds up walking out and stealing the groceries — not because he’s a thief, but because he’s so irritated. He then gets into a yogurt-hurling fight in the parking lot. So far, so De Niro-as-raging-codger proud.
But that’s about all you’re going to see of the 77-year-old De Niro’s charismatic volcanic side in “The War with Grandpa.” Moments later, Ed is in his messy living room, seated in his comfy old studded leather armchair, when Uma Thurman, as his daughter Sally,...

Bill Murray may be known for his incredible acting in comedy films such as classics like “Ghostbusters” and “Caddyshack,” but he’s also a man that doesn’t mind voicing an animal every now and then. Of course, we all know he voiced animals in Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” but who can forget his turn as Garfield the cat, in “Garfield: The Movie” and “Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties?” Well, it appears his animal voice acting days aren’t behind him yet, as he’s signed on for a new film “Bum’s Rush.”

Garfield has become the latest property to join the portfolio of Nickelodeon after an acquisition by Viacom.
Garfield is getting ready to ravenously devour lasagna and malign Mondays as part of Nickelodeon. That’s because Viacom Inc., the channel’s corporate parent, has acquired property owner Paws, Inc., making it officially part of the Nick stable.
The announced acquisition of the Garfield intellectual property and its placement with Nickelodeon is part of its ongoing – and self-confessed – strategy to maintain its status as “the home for the biggest franchises kids and families love.” Indeed, the famous feline will join kid’s show icons like SpongeBob SquarePants (a property set for expansion with a spinoff and another movie), Paw Patrol, upcoming revival Blue’s Clues and You! and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (a property acquired in similar grandiosity back in October 2009). Additionally, it will join an all-new animated Star Trek series.

Alcon Entertainment is moving forward on its “Garfield” animated feature project with Mark Dindal on board to direct.
Dindal’s credits include “The Emperor’s New Groove” and “Chicken Little.” He’s directing from a screenplay by the writing team of Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove. Pre-production is set to begin next month in Los Angeles.
Alcon bought the “Garfield” rights in 2016 from Jim Davis, the creator of the Garfield comic series and brand. Davis will be an executive producer. Alcon said Monday that its goal is to build a franchise of fully CG-animated Garfield feature films.
John Cohen (“Despicable Me”) and Steven P. Wegner (“Dolphin Tale 2″) brought the project to Alcon and will produce along with Alcon toppers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. Bridget McMeel from Amuse will executive produce with Davis.

Movie titles don’t necessarily make or break a movie on their own, but this is a look at ten movies where their titles didn’t do them any favors.
In the realm of zaney movie titles, I can appreciate those that are trying to be fun or silly, like 1964’s The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies or even Dude, Where’s My Car? Those are passable because they actually give you an idea of what to expect while perhaps generating a chuckle or a shake of the head. I can even deal with lame puns and wordplay in titles, as long as they make sense for the material at hand. Examples include Blacula! or Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties. Even titles that are so straightforward they end up being dumb aren’t lying or misleading to us, and so they shouldn’t...

"Did you know that Bill Murray doesn't have an agent? He just has an 800 number and answering machine." I remember exactly where I was when I heard about how Murray manages his career, just like some people remember when they first heard about Keith Richards snorting his dead dad's ashes. It's one of the best pieces of Bill Murray folklore, right up there with how he's always crashing house parties. But it hasn't helped his work much. Just look at his recent filmography. If you forget about his work with Wes Anderson and flukes like Get Low and Zombieland, it's been a pretty dire stretch since 2005's Broken Flowers — The Lost City, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, City of Ember, The Limits of Control, Passion Play, Hyde Park on the Hudson, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, The Monuments Men, and his latest, the treacly dramedy St. Vincent,...

Tim Hill has come to represent a name studios can trust when it comes to family entertainment. His directorial credits include Muppets from Space, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, the first Alvin and the Chipmunks and Hop. So when the writer-director . whose credits also include the massively successful SpongeBob SquarePants franchise . announces plans for a family comedy titled Playdate, you can understand why studios would be willing to take a chance on the project. Hill will write and direct this new effort for 20th Century Fox, according to Deadline. Plot details are being held close to the vest, though it is being revealed that Hill will co-write his treatment with Dave Johnson. The title suggests something that happens during a playdate, though that easily could be a bait-and-switch for any type of story, really. It.s too soon to guess. The man who brought us Alvin and the Chipmunks is promising an edgy remake of the 80s classic about a wisecracking robot
It's probably a good thing we've all calmed down about Michael Bay's origin-molesting remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, because otherwise this news might have pushed us over the edge for good. You see, not only is Short Circuit going to be remade, but this time it's going to be edgy.
Director Tim Hill has been speaking to the La Times about his plans for a rebooted Short Circuit. But, instead of addressing some of the bigger concerns about the original – like maybe not having an actor in brownface as one of the leads this time, or perhaps demonstrating a robot has gained consciousness in a way that doesn't involve him looking at some soup or laughing at Jew jokes – he used the interview to reel off...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, newcomer Matthew Lieberman has been signed to write the Short Circuit reboot going on over at Dimension Films. He’d previously written the not-at-all-liked Dr. Doolittle: Tail to the Chief which went straight to video on the coattails of the Eddie Murphy movies, but this project is an interesting way to get a foot in the door of the feature world. What’s more important is that Tim Hill is set to be the director. Hill’s recent work includes Alvin and the Chipmunks, Hop and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (apparently everyone involved loves “tail” puns). All of that sounds awful, but once upon a time, Hill also directed Muppets From Space. How someone got from weird and wonderful to boringly broad and homogenous is anyone’s guess. Forget it, fans. It’s Chinatown. That’s sad, but the most fascinating thing about bring back Johnny Five to life is...

It pains me to say this, but apparently Tim Hill, the director of Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Hop, is apparently is high demand. Just yesterday it was reported that the filmmaker has been hired by Dimension Films to helm a remake of Short Circuit and now he's landed yet another gig. THR has it that Hill has been selected and is currently in negotiations to helm Walter the Farting Dog for Paramount Pictures. The Farrelly brothers, who were attached to direct while the project was still over at Fox, will now serve as producers along with Mary Parent, the former worldwide motion picture group chairman at MGM. Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow, who wrote the Garfield sequel that Hill also directed, wrote the script based on the books by William Kotzwinkle, Glenn Murray, and Audrey Colman. The series follows a family who own...

Tim Hill has landed two new directing gigs this week: Dimension Film’s Short Circuit remake and Fox’s family comedy titled (seriously) Walter the Farting Dog.
Hill is perhaps best known for directing bar-lowering hybrids like Alvin and the Chipmunks, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, and Hop, and is a disappointing step sideways from the previously attached Sc director, Steve Carr, who gained recognition recently from the abysmal Paul Blart: Mall Cop.
In other words, any hopes of Dimension’s remake capturing the same whimsical camp as the 1986 flick seems to have disappeared. The original movie starred the once ubiquitous Steve Guttenberg and centers on an experimental robot named Number 5 who, when electrocuted, becomes sentient and escapes the lab. Now, Dimension is planning a 21st century update where the lovable robot “befriends a lonely boy and his fractured family.”

Back in 2008, Dimension Films acquired the remake rights to "Short Circuit" and hired original "Short Circuit" writers SS Wilson and Brent Maddock to pen the script. Then Dan Milano ("Robot Chicken") was brought on to do a re-write. "We're bringing Number 5 into the 21st Century and taking advantage of the improvements in robotics that are so massive that robots are now performing heart surgeries in hospitals," said producer David Foster, adding that the robot's look won't change. And then finally in 2009, "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" director Steve Carr was signed to helm. Things apparently didn't work out, because Deadline is now reporting that Tim Hill (Hop, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties) has replaced him. The original 1986 "Short Circuit" film revolves around an experimental robot manufactured to be a weapon until a lightning strike fills it with intelligence. We've known this was coming for quite a while, so it's no surprise. The script is getting revised by Hill, from an original draft by Dan Milano. In all that time the project has never managed to make its way out of development hell, but leave to a Hollywood studio to never let a bad idea die the death it deserves. The ads for Hop tout it as the new picture from the creators of Despicable Me; what they really mean is that it's from the director of Alvin and the Chipmunks and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties. That would be Tim Hill, and his work in has none of the special charms of Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud's cheerfully disreputable concoction. Hop features no misanthropic baldies, no dead-guy pancakes, no cradles made of discarded missiles. All we get is a runaway rabbit and a grown-up who's too lazy to get a real job. Talk about bait-and-switch.

It may look like the contents of a clown's stomach, but the ad for this shameless ploy to sell chocolate at least talks to the kiddies
Have a guess which confectionery-centric holiday Hop aims to tie in with? There are truckloads of candy, and chicks, and chocolate bunnies, and digitally rendered bunnies sporting pink berets and layered plaid shirts. Its target is Easter, of course, or at least Easter as imagined by the creatively bankrupt residents of Hollywood's movie production world, an imagination vacuum where good and original ideas increasingly appear to be outlawed at birth.
Hop is the latest picture from the man behind Alvin and the Chipmunks and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, a double-dip directorial CV that explains why the poster-makers decided to omit any mention of his involvement in favour of some people who had a hand in creating the altogether more palatable Despicable Me.

Tim Hill, director of “Hop” and formerly head writer for “SpongeBob SquarePants,” has a proven track record of creating animated productions with a broad appeal.
In “Hop,” the Easter tradition is threatened when the Easter Bunny’s heir apparent — the young E.B. — runs away to pursue his own musical ambitions rather than follow in his father’s chocolate-egg-delivering footsteps. The family comedy combines live action with seamless CG animation, as well as a fairly eclectic cast that includes James Marsden, Russell Brand, Kaley Cuoco, Elizabeth Perkins, Hugh Laurie, Gary Cole and the man or myth that is David Hasselhoff.
