After Blockbuster could have bought Netflix, there were always examples of how big companies had opportunities to make very profitable acquisitions that later backfired. In a recent interview with FandomWire, Gary Kusin, the former president of GameStop, discussed how Activision Blizzard had previously offered EA the acquisition of World of Warcraft.
Kusin even shared the number that the creators of Diablo were asking for this entire IP, which generates millions of dollars per month. This kind of opportunity is very rare in the industry.

Fans may have said their goodbyes to the Showtime series, but the world created within it is yet to be over, with a spinoff already planned and greenlit.
In October 2023, fans of the hit TV series learned that Showtime plans to have not one – or two, mind you – spinoff of the successful series but four.
Hopefully, it won’t go the way most of “Game of Thrones’” spinoffs have gone and every one of them will see production.
Speaking of production, “Billions: London” is gearing up to start filming in August. To maintain familiarity with the original show, even though we’re headed to a brand new location, the network has wisely retained original creators and executive producers Brian Koppelman and David Levien.

Tierra Whack has released her new album, World Wide Whack, via Interscope Records. Stream one of our most anticipated albums of 2024 below.
Billed as her debut album, World Wide Whack follows Whack’s acclaimed 2018 project Whack World. Much like her first debut, this debut’s artsy, playful take on hip-hop comes accompanied by original images and videos. The combination of sonics and visuals fleshes out the fictional character Whack inhabits for the duration of the album, a character who’s described as “an alter ego both untouchable and vulnerable, superhuman, and painfully human.”
Whack went deeper into the project’s vulnerability in an Instagram post that she posted alongside the single “27 Club.” “I was in a dark place for a long time, and no one knew. I found my way out and made a choice to keep living,” she wrote. “I wanna be completely transparent with my ‘whackos’ because I...

Tierra Whack has announced her new album, World Wide Whack, out March 15th via Interscope Records. She will also share a new single called “Shower Song” this Friday, January 26th.
Described in a press release as the Philly rapper and singer’s “most artistic project to date,” World Wide Whack is being billed as her debut album. It was created with conceptual artist Alex Da Corte, who previously directed the animated video for her 2020 song “Dora.”
Much like her 2018 full-length, Whack World, the album will also roll out as a visual art project featuring images and video. During that process, it will reveal Whack’s fictional World Wide Whack character: “an alter ego both untouchable and vulnerable, superhuman, and painfully human.”
Da Corte designed the cover artwork, which references Pierrot, the original sad clown of 17th-century Italian theater; radical 1930s fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli; and Donna Summer. Check it out below.

The classic TV show, which features Arun Govil as ‘Lord Ram,’ Sunil Lahri as ‘Lakshman,’ Dipika Chikhlia as Sita, Dara Singh as ‘Hanuman,’ and Arvind Trivedi as ‘Raavan, gained massive popularity across the nation, so much so that it enjoyed a re-run on National TV during Covid-19 Lockdown. Later, during the Adipurush controversy, the show was once again aired on TV in July last year.
But do you know who was the highest-paid actor in the entire Ramayan star cast? Well, many have guessed it right: it is the lead actor Arun Govil, who was followed by Dara Singh and Arvind Trivedi. But let us tell you, there was a minimal difference between the trios’ paycheques.

Chris Garneau is one of the rising stars in music we’re excited about, and Just Jared wants to give readers an opportunity to get to know him!
The New York singer-songwriter is releasing his EP, Out Of Love, featuring the heart-breaking title track, “Millions” and “First Man”, an alt-country track that tells the tale of a first crush from start to finish.
The openly gay singer shares that the song captures a spark of homoerotic desire from the perspective of a man looking back on the macho action stars who marked his adolescence.
“’First Man’ isn’t just about a first crush but more importantly an initial recognition of a person’s queerness. [This story contains spoilers from the series finale of Billions, “Admirals Fund.”]
“Bobbie Sue took the money and run” is not exactly the same as saying “Bobby and Chuck took the money and run,” though “Sue” is not a bad nickname for the crusading lawyer played for seven seasons by Paul Giamatti. Still, the vibes are very much on point as Steve Miller Band’s “Take the Money and Run” played viewers out in the opening and closing moments of the series finale of Billions, which ended a seven-season run with one last signature heist and one last big score for basically every single character — everyone, except for late-game antagonist Mike Prince (Corey Stoll).
As often is the case with Billions, the final episode, “Admirals Fund,” pulls the curtain back on events from previous episodes, only to reveal that they did not play out exactly as the audience thought. It looked like the holy alliance of Chuck Rhodes (Giamatti...

On an otherwise unassuming Monday in February, Showtime issued a press release that, sans context, appeared to be business as usual. The cable channel/streaming service announced development plans for two of its most popular series: “Dexter,” the mid-aughts serial killer thriller, was exploring up to three new iterations, and “Billions,” the ongoing financial drama starring Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis, was developing four spinoffs, including two titled “Millions” and “Trillions.”
Reactions were swift and merciless.
While plenty of eyes rolled in “Dexter’s” direction, a pervading sense of inevitability won out. Why wouldn’t Showtime extend a show that, despite complaints the original ran too long already, led to a revival that became “the most-watched series in Showtime history. Suits are physically incapable of leaving money on the table, so sure, fine, make “Teen Dexter” (actual working title: “Dexter: Origins”) and “Dexter Jr.” (aka “Dexter: New Blood” Season 2).

With Michael Prince potentially caught in the crosshairs, the nail-biting Showtime drama returned for its seventh— and final — season on August 11. Billions series co-creators Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin have drawn inspiration from Steve A. Cohen, Elon Musk and other famous billionaires to create their powerful and morally bankrupt cast of characters. Since the series premiere in 2016, audiences have followed former US attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) in his quest to bring these self-serving titans of industry to justice.

After seven seasons, Showtime’s widely-watched gem “Billions” will be returning this week for its final season.
Created by Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Andrew Ross Sorkin, the financial drama first premiered in 2016 and follows the cat-and-mouse games between a hedge fund manager (Damian Lewis) and the United States Attorney (Paul Giamatti).
The first season was loosely inspired by Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and his prosecution of S.A.C. Capital Advisors’ Steven A. Cohen. But as the show has continued, it’s morphed away from its real-life inspiration to become something else entirely.

The former “Rhoa” star was (and still is) a favorite from the franchise. Her comedic relief, vibrant personality and laser-sharp clapbacks were part of the reason the franchise gained its massive success, and arguably became the face of the entire “Real Housewives” universe.

Season 7 of the Showtime series Billions – which also happens to be the final season of the show – is scheduled to begin airing on Friday, August 11th. With just a month and a half to go before the last episodes of Billions start reaching the airwaves, a trailer for the season has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
Created by Brian Koppelman, David Levien, and Andrew Ross Sorkin, Billions draws inspiration from real-life federal prosecutions of financial crime. Wikipedia notes that the series is primarily set in New York and Connecticut, and centers on “hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) as he accumulates wealth and power in the world of high finance.” Lewis sat out season 6, but will be in six of the final season’s twelve episodes.

Showtime’s finance drama “Billions” seems like a show nearing the end of its run. Damian Lewis is returning to the show after a season away, the announcement of a bunch of in-development spinoffs, and the uncertainty of Showtime’s future would all seem to indicate that the show’s upcoming seventh season is likely its last. And according to star Dan Soder, that is exactly the case.
Soder, who has played trader Dudley Mafee since Season 1, let slip during an appearance on NBC Sports Chicago’s “Football Night in Chicago” that “Billions” will end with Season 7.
“Season 7, the final season of Billions, on its way,” Soder said, then added, “You know… am I not supposed to say that? I don’t know if I’m supposed to say that. I think so. It’s fine.”
“It doesn’t matter. You just said it,” anchor Mike Berman replied.

On March 8, Paramount Global announced a new trade campaign with “Popular Is Paramount.” Expect to see it in media ads and on billboards in New York and Los Angeles through the summer. It’s meant to work on two levels: Paramount makes content from popular intellectual property and the more natural-sounding “Paramount is popular” embeds the notion that Paramount’s content is, well, popular.
Point 1: Duly noted. Paramount is franchising everything, especially from its Showtime brand. “You could think about the slate as smaller, which will be less expensive, but also really giving the people what they want,” said Paramount Global President and CEO Bob Bakish at Wednesday’s Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference. “Maybe more ‘Dexter,’ maybe more ‘Ray Donovan,’ and really leaning into that. And we have some exciting plans there.”

After “Ray Donovan: The Movie,” it looks like we’re getting “Ray Donovan,” the spinoffs. The Showtime series, which ran from 2013 to 2020 with a movie in 2022, may be getting resurrected — again — at the premium cable network and Paramount+, according to a comment from Paramount Global President Bob Bakish.
In other words, Bakish is looking to give the Liev Schreiber crime drama the “Billions” and “Dexter” treatment.
Bakish, while speaking Wednesday at the 2023 Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference about Paramount’s future plans for Showtime, said the channel/brand will focus on giving audience members a smaller slate that provides them what they want. “Maybe” that’s more “Ray Donovan,” he said.

Axe is back. Showtime announced Tuesday that Damian Lewis will return as hedge fund titan Bobby “Axe” Axelrod for Season 7 of the drama series “Billions.” He will appear in six of the upcoming season’s 12 episodes. The show is in production in New York now.
Lewis left “Billions” at the end of Season 5. At the time, he told the New York Times he had always planned to stay for five seasons, and that he felt it was time to move on for creative reasons. The Axe is back.
Damian Lewis is returning to Showtime’s Billions for the finance drama’s upcoming seventh season.
The move marks a reversal for the actor, who exited his position as the show’s co-lead, playing hedge fund billionaire Bobby Axelrod, after season five. Lewis will appear in six of the new season’s 12 episodes.
Lewis’ departure was explained by his character going on the run from legal troubles. Co-star Corey Stoll was then upped to series regular and his character took over Axe’s company.
Lewis has previously suggested he left the series when his original five-season contract was up because he was a bit weary of the role. “It’s difficult to keep mining, creatively … We know who he is,” Lewis told The New York Times. “I always just assumed that [five] would be enough.” He also added that the passing of his wife in 2021, actress Helen McCrory,...

Axe is back. Damian Lewis, who departed Showtime’s “Billions” at the end of Season 5, will return to the series in time for Season 7, the network announced late Monday. Lewis, who stars with Guy Pearce in next month’s MGM+ series “A Spy Among Friends,” will return for six of the 12 episodes of “Billions” set to air next season.
Lewis is back as Bobby “Axe” Axelrod opposite Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll and Maggie Siff. The show is currently in production in New York, and Lewis’ return had already been leaked via paparazzi photos that showed him, in character, back with his old “Billions” co-stars.
Here’s the logline for next season via Showtime: “In season seven, alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponized. Loyalties are tested. Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends. And Bobby Axelrod returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world.

Showtime is expanding its franchises with a “Dexter” prequel series and multiple “Billions” spinoffs in the works.
Alongside the currently titled “Dexter: Origins” series, the network announced that “Billions: Miami,” “Billions: London,” “Millions” and “Trillions” are all in the works at the network as part of an effort to build up Showtime’s franchise strategy.
“Dexter: Origins” will follow a young Dexter Morgan as he transitions into the notorious serial killer he would eventually become with Clyde Phillips attached to executive produce. Set in Miami, young Dexter will encounter the younger version of staple “Dexter” characters, while also focusing on his familial relationships.
The network also announced it is developing a new version of “Dexter: New Blood,” which centers on Dexter’s son Harrison as he reckons with his father’s sinister past, and is exploring further projects based on the “Dexter” universe, including John Lithgow’s Trinity Killer.

Chris McCarthy, the Paramount Global exec who was handed oversight of Showtime last year, is doubling down on his franchise plans for the premium cable network.
The exec who is credited with growing Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone franchise for the streamer is expanding two of Showtime’s prized dramas — Dexter and Billions — with multiple offshoots in the works, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.
The linear cable network is developing as many as four series connected to the Billions franchises — including Millions and Trillions — from exec producers Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The Billions co-creators have been in business with an overall deal at Showtime since 2019 and the finance drama now ranks as the cabler’s longest-running scripted original series.

Chris McCarthy has been speaking about a franchise strategy for Showtime since he took over the network a couple of months ago. That strategy will include expanding successful series with multiple spinoffs in the mold of the Yellowstone universe as the premium cable network starts its integration with Paramount+ and getting a new moniker, Paramount+ with Showtime.

Showtime, er, Paramount+ with Showtime, is facing a major overhaul. The Paramount Global-owned premium-cable channel is shifting its focus to franchises, which is in turn bringing about some very questionable names beyond just the platform itself. Among the plans is to turn “Billions” into a universe with spinoffs working-titled — wait for it — “Millions” and “Trillions.”
Much like the new name for Showtime itself, we feel obligated to point out that this is not a joke. The Wall Street Journal, via an interview with Showtime boss Chris McCarthy, first reported the plans for the new Showtime. A spokesperson for McCarthy confirmed the news of all the series ordered and planned, which also includes another “Billions” spinoff set in Miami (and possibly even a fourth “Billions” spinoff) and a “Dexter” prequel series, for IndieWire.
The South Florida-set “Billions” spinoff sounds like it will have a crypto-currency angle. Another potential series in the franchise has a London setting.

Netflix spent at least “a few million” dollars to reshoot Chris D’Elia’s Army of the Dead role in the wake of accusations made against him, according to filmmakers Zack and Deborah Snyder.
In a Vanity Fair interview published on Friday, the Snyders spoke about the decision to have actor-comedian Tig Notaro take over D’Elia’s helicopter pilot part. They also broke down the challenging process of inserting her into a film that had long ago been shot without any other cast members present.
Director Zack Snyder said that the decision to recast D’Elia’s part was “a fairly easy one,” though his wife, producer Deborah Snyder, acknowledged that it was also “an expensive one.” The millions spent by Netflix went toward the digital erasure of D’Elia from footage, as well as reshoots with Notaro last September, and visual effects work that would seamlessly integrate her into scenes,...
