Alex Proyas, who directed the original version of The Crow in 1994 is not a fan of the idea remaking the film, the new version of which will be released on June 7.
Proyas’ reservations, he says, stem not from some sense of proprietorship, but from fidelity to the original film’s star, Brandon Lee, who died when a gun malfunctioned during production.
“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work,” wrote Proyas in a post online. “And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. [‘The Crow’] is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy.

Lionsgate’s official trailer for The Crow is three minutes of action and spoilers for those who aren’t familiar with the the original graphic novel by James O’Barr or the 1993 film adaptation starring Brandon Lee. The trailer arrived with a new still of Bill Skarsgard as the titular character and the official theatrical poster.
Skarsgard (It‘s Pennywise the Clown) stars as Eric Draven, a character he says he was honored to take on.
“But really what drew me to it was what Rupert Sanders wanted to do with it. He wanted to completely reimagine the story and the character and tailor it towards a modern audience. It’s a character that I know many revere and have a strong connection to – he is unlike any I’ve ever taken on before,” explained Skarsgard. “Working with the remarkably talented FKA Twigs was magical. I felt a responsibility to Eric...

After years of stops and starts, The Crow reboot is finally flying and now has the first trailer to prove it.
Bill Skarsgard leads the film, which centers on a man who is murdered, alongside his fiancée but is granted supernatural powers to seek revenge.
The Crow began life as a comic book, with James O’Barr debuting the character in 1989. It grew to new levels of popularity with the cult hit film, which starred the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident during filming. Multiple sequels followed, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).
But the current reboot took nearly 20 years to get off the ground, with multiple stars and filmmakers coming and going. Blade Stephen Norrington took a stab at one point, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and star Luke Evans tried to break the curse at another point.

Bill Skarsgård is bringing “The Crow” back to life, literally. The breakout “It” star leads the new reimagining of the graphic novel that was infamously brought to the big screen in 1994. Bruce Lee’s son Brandon Lee originally played the lead role of Eric Draven, a man who comes back from the dead to take revenge on the man who murdered him and his fiancée. Lee was killed on set during the final days of production when a prop gun fired.
“The Crow” has been set for various remakes over the past 30 years, with Mark Wahlberg, Jason Momoa, Bradley Cooper, James McAvoy, Tom Hiddleston, and Skarsgård’s own brother Alexander Skarsgård all previously attached to different iterations.
Now, with director Rupert Sanders at the helm, Skarsgård is taking on playing rockstar Draven who is killed alongside his lover Shelly (FKA Twigs) by her ex (Danny Huston). Draven sets out to...

Exclusive: Lionsgate’s John Wick spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas will be delayed a year from June 7, 2024 to June 6, 2025. The move comes as John Wick architect Chad Stahelski has inked a new deal with Lionsgate to oversee the franchise. He’s working with Ballerina director Len Wiseman on additional action sequences for the movie, to amp it up even more than it is.
Advance tracking is already hot on Ballerina, Lionsgate just wants to make the feature, produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee’s Thunder Road even better. Currently, the Ballerina stands alone on her new summer 2025 date.
Now, there’s nothing for exhibition to fret, for the Rupert Sanders’ redux of The Crow will be taking over Ballerina‘s summer date of June 7 this year. Bill Skarsgård takes on the iconic role of The Crow in this modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr.

Lionsgate’s “John Wick” spinoff “Ballerina,” starring Ana de Armas, has been pushed to 2025. Rupert Sanders’ “The Crow” remake will take over its release date of June 7, 2024, while “Ballerina” will bow on June 6, 2025.
Studio insiders say Chad Stahelski, who oversees the “John Wick” franchise along with Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee at Thunder Road, is working closely with “Ballerina” director Len Wiseman on additional action sequences for the film. With “The Crow” ready to go, Lionsgate sees no reason to rush “Ballerina” into theaters just yet, especially with strong advance tracking numbers.
“Ballerina” follows a skilled assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma. Starring de Armas, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Norman Reedus, with Ian McShane and Keanu Reeves, “Ballerina” is written by Shay Hatten, based on characters created by Derek Kolstad and produced by Iwanyk, Lee and Stahelski.

Growing up as the only son of Ed Pressman, the prolific Hollywood independent producer behind more than 90 major productions including Wall Street, American Psycho and The Crow, it’s fair to say that the film business has always been in Sam Pressman’s blood.
“As a little kid, I got to be on set a lot and feel that beautiful sense of live shoots,” says Pressman, now CEO of Pressman Film, which was established by his late father in 1969. “Movies are deep inside of me, but I didn’t always believe that I would go into film. I really loved it more as an art. I remember taking a silent film class in my freshman year of college where we watched the really tough silent documentary Man With a Movie Camera and we studied it as a cultural phenomenon – it was fascinating.”

The Crow is flying over to Lionsgate, which will handle domestic distribution for the long-awaited reboot.
Rupert Sanders directed the feature, with Bill Skarsgard starring as the titular character, which originally debuted in the late 1980s comics by James O’Barr. They centered on a man and his fiancée who are killed by a gang after the couple’s car breaks down. But the man exacts vengeance after being resurrected as the Crow. The late Brandon Lee famously played the character in the 1994 film, and was killed during an on-set accident.

It's about time for "Silent Hill" to make a comeback. The popular horror video game franchise is not only getting several new entries but also another film adaptation. "Return to Silent Hill" will become the third movie in the series, though it sounds as if director Christopher Gans is making more of a reboot than a proper sequel. The film will serve to accompany the upcoming video game titles in a massive wave of "Silent Hill" projects that publisher Konami announced last October.
The series revolves around the titular town of Silent Hill (located in Maine in the games and West Virginia in the movies), a place imbued with an ancient and terrible power that manifests its visitors' inner fears, traumas, and guilt in the form of misshapen creatures. Each entry follows a different character and their hellish adventures into Silent Hill, where they have to contend with the Order,...

The edgy screenplay for this flashy, rough-edged ‘lovers, drugs & guns’ saga served to jump-start Quentin Tarantino’s movie career; he’s identified it as his most autobiographical work. Tony Scott slicked up the visuals and ironed out the nonlinear narrative but it’s still a Qt epic through and through. And that cast of suspects is phenomenal: Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, Bronson Pinchot, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Rapaport, Saul Rubinek, Conchata Ferrell & James Gandolfini.

Groundhog Day, this is not.
We’re hearing today that after two years spent on ice, The Crow reboot has officially (re)entered active development at Sony Pictures.
Bloody Disgusting has the scoop, confirming that, yes, The Crow has once again circled back into development for the umpteenth time, though there’s no mention of a firm release window as of yet. Sony had previously scheduled its long-gestating horror reboot for a release in October of 2019, though nothing came to pass.
As a matter of fact, the Powers That Be even went so far as to yank The Crow from the release schedule entirely, pouring ice-cold water over any progress made by Corin Hardy and Jason Momoa, who were once attached to direct and star, respectively.
But Bloody Disgusting today brings word of light at the end of a very long, meandering tunnel:

We’re just a few weeks away from the annual unveiling of the Cannes Film Festival lineup, and, as ever, speculation is running high about what will and won’t strut down the Croisette from May 14-25. Also as usual, nothing is set in stone until fest chief Thierry Frémaux makes the announcement. However, we’ve been able to glean some intel into what’s likely to be in store for the official selection — and what is not.

Varda’s tribute was introduced by Cannes Film Festival’s artistic director Thierry Fremaux and French actress Chiara Mastroianni. Martin Scorsese, who presented the tribute to Robert De Niro the day before, was there as well and came up on stage to pose with Varda, along with her children, the director Mathieu Demy and Rosalie Varda, the artist Jr, who collaborated with Varda on “Faces, Places,” and Melita Toscan du Plantier, director of Marrakech Film Festival.
“Francois Truffaut used to say that in the (French film industry), the boss was Jean Renoir. When it comes to women, the boss is Agnes Varda,” said Fremaux, who started off his speech with a few words on three revered industry figures who have recently died,...

Updated with Cannes Film Festival statement, writethru: The international industry is digesting the sudden news that veteran French distributor and producer Samuel Hadida died following a short illness on Monday at the age of 64. Reactions have streamed in about a man who folks agree was passionate, joyful and one-of-a-kind (see tweets below).
FilmNation chief Glen Basner tells Deadline this morning, “I love Sammy and will miss him dearly. His enthusiasm and passion for all things made him larger-than-life, but it also applied to our friendship that made it more meaningful and have more depth. It was familial and what I will miss most.”
Indeed, I recall one recent Cannes Film Festival which was so plagued by rain that execs were doing deals on their phones from hotel lobbies. When I ran into Hadida in the Majestic, he told me he’d just closed a film with Basner but wouldn’t...

This is a remake which just doesn't want to be made. Yesterday, the long-in-development remake of The Crow crashed and burned, again. We recently learned that Jason Momoa and director Corin Hardy dropped out of The Crow reboot just weeks before it was supposed to go into production. The reason they left was reportedly because of creative and financial differences with Samuel Hadida, "whose Davis Films holds the underlying rights and who was financing the film."
Jason Momoa has since posted a photo on Instagram showing a piece of concept art giving us a look at what the actor would have looked like in the role. You can also see that he's wearing makeup in the photo himself and hading his face. The image came with the following caption apologizing:
"I’ve waited 8 years to play this dream role. I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James O’Barr sorry to let you down I won’t on the next.

Jason Momoa has announced that Sony’s remake of “The Crow” appears to have fallen apart — but asserted that he’s still eager to play the lead role.

Just when you thought The Crow had been cleared for take-off courtesy of Jason Momoa and The Nun director Corin Hardy, the wheels come off.
For all of its potential, not to mention the fact that Hardy had planned to begin filming sometime before the year’s end, earlier today we brought you the news that the director had backed out of the project – ditto for Jason Momoa – after failing to meet eye-to-eye with Samuel Hadida, whose production banner Davis Films holds the underlying rights for The Crow.
And so, it appears the gothic reimagining has been ordered back to the drawing board (again) as it begins its search for a new director (again), but to his credit, Jason Momoa posted a heartfelt Instagram post (h/t Bloody Disgusting) to reaffirm his commitment to the ill-fated project.

The Crow remake has had a long hard road to production. This film has been trying to get made for years! Now, once again, the project is dead for the time being. According to Deadline, Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and director Corin Hardy (The Hallow, The Nun) "formally withdrew from the film this morning."
The report says that the reason they left the project was because of creative and financial differences with Samuel Hadida, "whose Davis Films holds the underlying rights and who was financing the film."
The Crow has been in full-on pre-production and was gearing up to start shooting in Budapest within the next five weeks. That's obviously not going to happen at this point. The report also says:
Sony Pictures announced last September that it had picked up the film for worldwide distribution, and announced an October 11, 2019 release date. Insiders said that deal hasn’t closed. My sources...

The Crow has been grounded. And not for the first time.
Per Deadline, Jason Momoa and director Corin Hardy have officially walked away from the troubled reboot, leaving it to plunge into the depths of development hell once more.
Things looked to have been progressing relatively well, too, what with Hardy poised to switch gears from The Nun to The Crow before the year’s end. Pre-production was already underway, and last month brought word that Corin Hardy and his team had planned to get the cameras rolling in Budapest, Hungary within the next five weeks. But that was before a speedbump emerged in the form of – you guessed it! – creative differences…
