The doctor-turned-comedian has starred in films from The Hangover to Crazy Rich Asians, been a judge on The Masked Singer and still assists with the odd medical emergency. What would you like to ask him?
It seems every country needs a medical doctor-turned-comedian. The UK has Harry Hill, Monty Python’s Graham Chapman and the Goodies’ Graeme Garden. The US has Ken Jeong MD, who practiced as a physician of internal medicine in Los Angeles while trying to get his stand-up and improv career off the ground. (He maintains his medical licence and has assisted with medical emergencies since. He’s got some good stories on this!)
Jeong got his big break in Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up, and then went to on play a flamboyant gangster in The Hangover and two sequels. He’s since starred opposite Paul Rudd in Role Models, Brendan Fraser in Furry Vengeance and was in Crazy Rich Asians.

While many sequels and spin-offs came and went, 1999’s The Mummy will always remain the O.G. with others failing to compete with it. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz were absolutely incredible in their roles and their chemistry was off the charts. The film went on to do quite well at the box office and even though it received mixed reviews from critics, everyone will agree that The Mummy is a cult classic now.

A new report suggests that Universal has a fourth film in The Mummy series planned, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reprising their roles.
Here’s an interesting story to emerge from the rumour mill this morning. Reporter Daniel Rictman has claimed that a fourth film in The Mummy series is being developed at Universal. The project will reportedly see both Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz return to reprise their roles from the original trilogy which concluded with The Mummy –Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor in 2008.
Weiz didn’t feature in that instalment – as we covered in this look at why a fourth film never happened – and she wasn’t apparently satisfied with the script. However, Richtman (via World Of Reel) claims that both she and Fraser are on board for this next instalment, which would bring back a series that gave audiences some brilliant moments and launched the career of one Dwayne Johnson.

Update: Daniel Richtman has learned that there’s not only a Mummy prequel in the works at Universal, but there are two other Mummy projects in the works as well. He writes, “There are no less than Three Mummy projects in development at Universal, one is a direct sequel to the Fraser films.” So fans might get to see Brendan Fraser make his long-awaited return to the role of Rick O’Connell after all!

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are back on the big screen together, as 1999’s The Mummy comes back to UK cinemas.
Given what a seismic year for cinema 1999 turned out to be – indeed, books have been written about it – it’s perhaps unsurprising that we’re getting a growing number of 25th anniversary celebrations.
Next up? That’d be The Mummy, the 1999 take on the Universal classic monster, that starred Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. It’s the best Indiana Jones film since Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade too, and while Stephen Sommer’s movie was followed by a couple of sequels, none came close to the fun of the 1999 film.
We now learn that the movie will be back in UK cinemas this coming July – on 5th July, as it happens – and it looks like it’s getting a relatively wide re-release too. Oftentimes, such re-releases are restricted to big cities,...

Despite getting mixed reviews at the time, Stephen Sommers' The Mummy proved to be a decent (if unspectacular) hit when it was released back in 1999, and has remained a firm fan-favorite over the years.
Two direct sequels and a Scorpion King spin-off starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson weren't nearly as successful, and Universal Pictures' more recent reboot starring Tom Cruise bombed to such a degree that it closed the tomb on the studio's plans for a Dark Universe franchise after a single movie.
Even so, rumors persist that another Mummy movie is in development. Previous reports have claimed that a new reboot or direct sequel to the '99 original might be in the works, but insider Daniel Richtman believes the project is actually going to be a prequel.
We don't have much more to go on for the time being, but Wes Tooke is said to be attached to pen the script.

If there’s one thing Hollywood’s been obsessed with lately, it’s remakes and reboots. Well-established franchises tend to sell well, so why not rake up some more money from them, right?
Except that neither critics nor the audience buy into that anymore and dare demand actual good movies in order to spend their money on that popcorn.
The Mummy has already gone through getting a terrible reboot that failed, but apparently, it wasn’t enough: a new installment is in the works, and it’s a prequel.
The Mummy Prequel Reportedly in Development
Recently, famous industry insider Daniel Richtman took to his Patreon to deliver an unexpected update on The Mummy franchise. According to Richtman, a prequel movie is currently in development at Universal, with Midway’s Wes Tooke penning the script. This is yet to be confirmed as officially, Tooke is now working on the screenplay for The Thomas Crown Affair.

Imhotep! Imhotep! Imhotep! Who’s ready to join the shuffling hordes heading to the local multiplex to worship cinema’s greatest, gooiest mummy? It’s 25 years since Stephen Sommers’ Universal monster movie The Mummy burst onto the big screen – with its Brendan Fraser charisma overlaid, brain-bothering beetles, and bespectacled librarian Rachel Weisz turn – to terrify an entire generation of moviegoers. And now, lock up your organs, bury your maps to Hamunaptra, and do whatever you can to not recite from the Book Of The Dead, because The Mummy is returning to the the big screen this summer.

Al Ruddy, who co-created the famed CBS sitcom Hogan’s Heroes, then captured Academy Awards for producing the best picture winners The Godfather and Million Dollar Baby, has died. He was 94.
Ruddy, also credited as one of the creators of the long-running CBS police drama Walker, Texas Ranger, died Saturday following a brief illness at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center, a publicist announced.
On the heels of The Godfather (1972), Ruddy produced another box-office hit with the original The Longest Yard (1974), the prison-set football movie that starred Burt Reynolds. The pair then reteamed for the action road films The Cannonball Run (1981) and its 1984 sequel, both directed by stuntman-turned-helmer Hal Needham.
The personable Ruddy also produced such films as Bad Girls (1994), the first Western with all female leads (Madeleine Stowe, Mary Stuart Masterson, Andie MacDowell and Drew Barrymore); the baseball comedy The Scout (1994), starring Albert Brooks and Brendan Fraser; and Matilda (1978), a comedy...

Though Brendan Fraser has been claiming that his pretty much authentic experience on The Mummy set back in 1999 almost cost him his life, the franchise’ director doesn’t seem to believe in a big drama.
Throughout several years of its run, The Mummy has indeed proved that some dangers faced by its characters in the movies also got to be a big challenge for actors, and the franchise’s lead was the most frequent one to get trapped.
The story that has already become a true legend among The Mummy’s fans owes its existence to the hanging scene in the first film. The scene itself was supposed to show Brendan Fraser’s Rick being hanged, but the actor seems to have taken it way too seriously.
According to Fraser, he really wanted to make it all look real, so he “sort of took a few deep breaths, and kind of bared down.

When I first moved to New York in 2017, I made a work friend who quickly became a close friend. One of the many things we bonded over was a shared love of John Travolta's lesser known movies. More specifically, I was impressed at how much joy my new friend was able to derive from the actor's career. I'd be lying if I said that joy stemmed from a genuine appreciation of the man's work, but I think he harbored a strange kind of respect for Travolta, as if any man who could put out "Look Who's Talking Now" or "Gotti" and still maintain some sort of career was deserving of admiration. As such, we planned a massive Travolta marathon which we sadly never got around to.
But if we ever did get around to taking a journey through the dregs of Travolta's career, Rotten Tomatoes might be a decent guide.

Have you ever found yourself questioning the future success of an up-and-coming star, only to be later delightfully proven wrong? That was precisely the case with The Dark Knight star Christian Bale, who, after watching Matt Damon’s performance in Robert Mandel’s School Ties, harbored doubts about the latter’s prospects in Hollywood.
In a candid GQ interview, Bale reflected on a time when his own career seemed to be in a lull, revealing how he wasn’t quite convinced that Damon, despite his evident talent, would achieve fame. For Bale, the realization came quickly, but just “three days” later, while watching Good Will Hunting, it led him to the undeniable conclusion: talent combined with perseverance is a force to be reckoned with!

XYZ Films has acquired U.S. rights to the classic Cannes Directors’ Fortnight title “The World is Yours” directed by Romain Gavras from StudioCanal and to the TIFF hit film “We Gotta Get Out of This Place,” directed by Simon Hawkins and Zeke Hawkins. In the film, a mid-level drug dealer (Leklou) dreams of having a new life, but his mother (Adjani) has gambled away his savings. He must take one last job in Spain, but his entourage gets involved: his mother, his ex-con friend, his crush, and possibly The Illuminati.

The desert may grow cold at night, but for two intrepid adventurers and would-be fortune seekers, the evening is flush with excitement. Earlier in the day these heroes—rugged Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and effervescent Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz)—seemed to make a breakthrough on their grave-robbing exploits after they literally broke through the ceiling of a tomb, discovering a juicy mummy along the way. A little later, they got in a shootout with desert nomads and bedouin, which nonchalantly left a body count well into the double digits. And yet, none of that really seemed to matter in the grand scheme of things, either to the characters or the audience watching them. Nay, the most thrilling thing about this portion of Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy is just how buzzed they, and by extension we, are getting from the shared company… plus the bottle of 15-year-old Scotch they just swiped off a corpse.

The best period in recent cinema history? Back when Brendan Fraser was one of the biggest stars, without a doubt. There’s something special about this man’s action movies, and even decades later, rewatching them feels like returning home after a long trip to the cold outside world. Among Fraser’s certified classics, The Mummy is probably the most prominent — thanks to director Stephen Sommers, in particular.
For Sommers, those, too, were the good old days, but there’s one chapter of The Mummy’s story he hates — Alex Kurtzman’s 2017 remake with Tom Cruise. Why?
The Mummy Remake Disrespected Its Origins
Typically, when a new creator takes over someone else’s franchise, they reach out to them. There are many reasons to do so: to receive their blessing or insights, to share their vision, to keep them in the loop, or just out of common courtesy… No matter...

The one fatal mistake that most TV shows make is using TV cameos gratuitously. If the cameo doesn't mean something to the audience and the characters in the show, it's pointless, and little more than a random Stan Lee Appears gag.
On the other hand, too many shows have fallen into the trap of celebrity worship with their cameos.
Having cast members gawk and gape at their celebrity crush as if to reinforce the celebrity's prestige while doing nothing for the universe we enjoy is a waste of talent.
For this list of the top TV cameos worth celebrating, we will focus on iconic cameo appearances that gave the show some unforgettable moments that made TV history.
Seinfeld Cast, Curb Your Enthusiasm
What better way to give Seinfeld the better ending many feel it deserved than by bringing back the cast and the original set and doing a bit of self-parody?...

Chris Pratt paid tribute to his late stunt double Tony McFarr in a heartfelt message on social media in which Pratt remembered their time on several movie sets together. McFarr was Pratt’s stunt double on some of the actor’s biggest films, including the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Jurassic World” franchises. McFarr died May 13 at the age of 47.
“Devastated to hear about the loss of my friend and former stunt double Tony McFarr,” Pratt wrote. “We did several movies together. We golfed, drank whiskey, smoked cigars, and spent endless hours on set. I’ll never forget his toughness. I remember he took a nasty shot to the head (in the title sequence of ‘Guardians 2’) and got several staples in his head came right back to work ready to go again. He was an absolute stud.”
“He was always a gentleman and professional,” Pratt added. “He’ll be missed.

Patricia Velásquez long ago made peace with the fact that she and Egypt will be eternally linked. It’s an amusing quirk of fate for the Venezuelan actor since she grew up not in the sun-soaked deserts of North Africa, but rather the lush greenery of Latin America and France. She is a woman of proud Indigenous Wayuu descent and of a multicultural childhood that took her all over the world. Just never that part of it. Nonetheless, because of a movie she did a quarter-century ago—because of The Mummy—when friends, family, and even strangers think of the Land of the Pharaohs, they think of Patricia Velásquez. They think of Anck-Su-Namun.
“Can you believe I still have not been to Egypt?” Velásquez muses when we catch up with her over Zoom ahead of The Mummy’s 25th anniversary. “But somehow I seem to be connected to it a lot.

The Mummy (1999) director Stephen Sommers looks back on his masterpiece starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz on its 25th anniversary. One of the most popular and enduring action-adventure films of all time, The Mummy proved to have stood the test of time.

Twenty-five years ago, director Stephen Sommers turned a respected, but admittedly pretty dusty, Universal horror movie into a rip-roarin’ adventure. It’s fair to say all these years later that 1999’s The Mummy the best Indiana Jones movie not directed by Steven Spielberg. And yet, when Universal wanted to remake it again, they didn’t even bother to consult Sommers.
Is it any wonder, then, that 2017’s The Mummy was a colossal flop?
Talking with Sommers about the 25th anniversary of The Mummy ’99, The Hollywood Reporter asked if he had any involvement with the 2017 film, to which the director gave a short, clear response.
“No,” he answered. “Actually, I was kind of insulted because the writers and director of that Tom Cruise one, no one ever contacted me. I contact people if I was going to take over somebody’s thing.”

Released in 1999, The Mummy was a box office hit with $409 million worldwide. Two sequels followed, as did a spin-off - 2002's The Scorpion King - which put Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on the map as an actor.
Stephen Sommers directed the first two movies, passing the baton to Rob Cohen for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Then, in 2017, The Mummy franchise was rebooted as part of Universal's short-lived "Dark Universe."
Tom Cruise took centre stage in what proved to be a rare critical and commercial flop for the A-Lister, and Sommers recently shared his thoughts on the movie while talking to The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com).

Though Brendan Fraser-led horror comedy franchise The Mummy was seemingly put to its end back in 2008 with its third installment Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, some are still patiently waiting for the team of famous adventurers to come back to screens.
Throughout the years that passed since the latest movie hit the cinemas, The Mummy’s main cast repeatedly notes that they were more than eager to revive the fan-favorite franchise, but now, as its director finally speaks out, the chances turn out to be lower than everyone ever expected.
Back in the day, Stephen Sommers directed two of The Mummy’s films with the third one being passed on to Rob Cohen’s directorial view, yet Sommers still kept a significant position in the franchise’s future as one of the producers.

Whenever we talk about The Mummy franchise, the first character that comes to our mind is Brendan Fraser’s Rick O’Connell, set in the 1920s Egypt, the film revolves around the adventurer and a librarian who unknowingly releases Imhotep, a centuries-old mummy. The group takes responsibility as they prevent the rise of the evil pharaoh, and stop him from destroying the world.
Brendan Fraser as Rick O’Connell
The 1999 film was a massive hit as it received two more sequels, making it one of the best trilogies out there. However, in 2017, fans were disappointed when they learned that instead of getting a 4th film featuring the original cast, the $1.4 billion franchise would get a reboot. Needless to say, the film was not liked by the fans of the original series. But now, the wait for The Mummy 4 featuring Fraser comes to an end as the film’s director gives an update.

Brendan Fraser has been seeing a revival in his career after he won the Oscar for his role in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. However, the actor will always be known for his role as Rick O’Connell in the horror adventure film The Mummy. While Brendan Fraser was already an established actor in the ’90s, thanks to Encino Man and George of the Jungle, it was The Mummy franchise that propelled his career to new heights. Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy would’ve had a different actor playing a crucial role in the film. During a recent interview, director Stephen Sommers revealed that he tried to cast a famous Star Wars actor in the film. The character of Ardeth Bay in the film was initially written for an older actor and Sommers tried to cast Darth Vader actor James Earl Jones in the role. The director also considered Roscoe Lee Browne in the role, but both actors were busy with other projects.
Oded Fehr played the role of Ardeth Bay in The Mummy franchise
Sommers then had to rewrite the character to be played by a much younger actor and cast Israeli actor Oded Fehr in the role. The character returned once again in the sequel film, The Mummy Returns, in 2001.

Directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Brendan Fraser as the swashbuckling Rick O'Connell, the film became a somewhat unexpected hit, so much so that it ended up being one of the highest-grossing films of 1999 overall. Critics were a bit mixed on it in its day. It was an action/adventure film, the likes of which Hollywood had released many times before. Be that as it may, a film designed purely to entertain (rather than to scare) resonated with audiences in a big way. It was pulpy lightning in a bottle.

1999 was an amazing year for movies. But, among all the classics like The Matrix, Fight Club, Being John Malkovich, Magnolia, Go, Three Kings, and so many more, one that often gets overlooked is The Mummy. Originally, the summer of ’99 was supposed to be all about Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, but a few weeks before that movie opened, The Mummy turned out to be an unexpected smash for Universal Pictures, with it spawning two sequels, a spin-off movie, and (less cool), a reboot.
With the movie turning twenty-five, the film’s director Stephen Sommers, revisited the film during an extended sit-down with THR. Tom Cruise is known for his action-hero persona in Hollywood. The actor has played many roles which has allowed him to flex his acting muscles as well as enabled him to perform death-defying stunts. He has headlined major franchises such as Mission: Impossible, and Top Gun, and has featured in one-off action blockbusters such as Knight and Day.
Cruise was also part of the disastrous The Mummy reboot in 2017, which was a box office failure and officially shut down the Dark Universe before it even began.
